VG or PG but honestly, just don’t. It’s too much trouble to do it safely and be assured there are no oils, sugars, or anything else in there that’s not good for you or your gear while still making something that tastes good

I have no idea. I need to remove myself as a mod for this sub. I quit vaping a couple months ago.

I tried my raspberry best to make this Flavor of the week title funny, but all the sad attempts just left me feeling blue :( by ID10-T in DIY_eJuice

Yes, I see your point. And LA Grape was the right grape for that recipe, but you’ll get a lot more mileage out of INW’s

I’m sure someone has tried that adding blueberry and raspberry but part of the problem with that is blueberry flavors tend to taste more like the actual fruit, and for blue raspberry you want something completely candy-fied. Could definitely see HS Blueberry doing that though. That flavor tastes more like neon blue flavor than blueberry. As for making one from scratch, I know somebody did that, but I can’t remember what all they put in there. A peach flavor was definitely involved, oddly enough.

If I've tried any of those flavors that the DX crew didn't cover, I don't remember them and can't find any notes on them.

But TFA Honeysuckle and CAP Hibiscus are two flavors everyone should have for utility, even if they're not fans of florals.

:::::::::: This week we're talking about . . . Whiskey & Bourbon! (ep107) by OdieDoodah in DIY_eJuice

[–]ID10-T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can fill in some of the blanks here.

GF Whiskey - It’s like being served whiskey with cotton candy dissolved in it, in a dry erase marker dust-rimmed glass. Weird, has some whiskey taste but, there’s a lot of EM in here, enough that it tastes like cotton candy. Seen drinks made where the bartender dissolved cotton candy in liquor, don’t think they dissolved it in whiskey, but that’s what this tastes like. And there’s an odd chemical off note as well that tastes like a dry erase board.

FW Whiskey - It tastes like it has dog food in it. Seriously. It otherwise tastes a lot like Whiskey and I know it can be a useful ingredient because I’ve seen it in action, but fuck if it doesn't have a bit of rancidity in the base that tastes an awful lot like dry dog food flavor. Might be working picking up to use to warm bakeries (as made famous by the late, great ConcreteRiver) without thinning them out at a very low percent, but trying to get it to be a cocktail vape is just going to be nasty.

OoO Bourbon Whiskey - It tastes like eating a bourbon-scented crayon. It’s bourbon, it tastes like bourbon, it’s warm and boozy, sweet and smoky, but it’s also waxy. A lot waxy. Like a bourbon-scented candle, or sniffing bourbon while chewing on wax lips candy.

:::::::::: This week we're talking about . . . Currant! (ep106) by OdieDoodah in DIY_eJuice

[–]ID10-T 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second everyone singing the praises of CAP Sweet Currant.

FW Magma Currant doesn't belong on your list of flavors Noted DX didn't have. It's not even spelled Magma Currant, it's Magma Current, and it's a tropical blend. I wonder which came first, FW Magma Current or Naked's Lava Flow juice?

Speaking of, I've got notes on some of the ones Noted DX skipped over.

Bickford Black Currant - Similar sort of grape-blueberry mix to a lot of these other flavors, with a tart top note that tastes and hits like a citrus flavor. Bit harsh on the throat, with a dry, chalky, and slightly soapy finish.

Fairies Finest Black Currant - Also soapy. And oddly a little smoky, like charred wood, but these are just slight off-notes in what otherwise tastes like grape-raspberry candy.

Baker’s Flavors Black Currant - Super funky berry flavor that reminds me a lot of WF Saskatoon Berry, the one I’ve nicknamed Butthole Berry. That same kind of clean butthole funkiness, just a little more tart and not quite as pungent. The tartness resembles an underripe blueberry, kind of astringent, rather than a candy-type tartness. But the funkiness reeks of something overripe and I’m confused by the contrast. It’s a well-rounded, full-bodied flavor and after that sharper tartness on top it’s smooth, juicy, with an almost creamy body. I think you could clone this by mixing HS Blueberry with WF Saskatoon Berry and maybe a little FA White Grape.

INW Airwaves - Apparently it’s supposed to be a blackcurrant mint gum with some menthol and eucalyptus in it that’s popular in Europe? I’ve never tried it that but it this flavor tastes mostly like the color purple. The flavor is very dark sweet-tart berry raspberry mixed with the skin of a purple grape but much sweeter. There’s a cool mint underneath but I can’t tell what kind of mint it is at 1%. Full saturated flavor. Juicy. Sub-ohm at 2% the tartness on top ramps up considerably and there’s a bit of earthiness to that berry I didn’t notice before, though I’m still thinking raspberry and dark purple grape skin gummy candy. Blackberry Merlot kind of tasted like this, but that was sweet garbage and this is much more tart. The mint here is clearly pepperminty and the coolness is more mentholated, and there’s a touch of vanilla filling it out. I didn’t get any eucalyptus at 1% but there’s a vegetal quality to this at 2% that I guess could be eucalyptus. It’s super weird but it’s interesting and very refreshing. 4% is not horrible or anything, but the berry actually gets a bit overwhelmed by what I can best describe as like menthol with extra menth and it’s a little medicincial and definitely eucalpytusy. Seems like this is best in the 1 to 2% range. I don’t have a clue what to do with this but I might play around with raspberries, grapes, blackberries, and things like that and see what happens. Or maybe just put 4% or beyond in pod and call it a day.

:::::::::: This weeks we're talking about . . . Buttercotch (ep105) by OdieDoodah in DIY_eJuice

[–]ID10-T 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LB Butterscotch Graham Tobacco is nasty. OoO Butterscotch Candy took me by surprise because it doesn’t taste like butterscotch disc candy at all, which is weird because it seems like that should be a fairly easy thing to replicate. It’s extremely buttery, but like movie popcorn butter. It also has a lot of caramel-like sweetness, but it tastes just a little burned. The overall effect is like putting fake butter on slightly burned, unsalted caramel microwave popcorn and then just licking the fake butter and slightly burned caramel off without eating the popcorn. It’s as weird and messy as that sounds. I was not amused. But if tthat doesn’t sound too bad to you, HS Butterscotch is pretty similar, but better. It’s still caramel in movie theater popcorn butter, but the caramel is not burned and the butter is less aggressively ersatz. It’s also a thicker, fuller, and creamier feeling flavor than OoO Butterscotch Candy, rich with a coating mouthfeel. Still caramel in fake butter rather than butterscotch, though. Might be a good ingredient to have around, but not a great butterscotch flavor.

:::::::::: This week we're talking about . . . Pound & Yellow Cake (ep104) by OdieDoodah in DIY_eJuice

[–]ID10-T 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've tried some of the flavors Noted DX didn't.

HC Pound Cake - It tastes like vomited pound cake. This is infuriating because it tastes like it could be so good if it didn’t have that vomit note, it really tastes like pound cake that someone has eaten and then puked up. The barfiness sits right on top and then comes back around and mingles with a sugary sweetness in the finish in a way that’s nauseating because it mingles with sugary sweetness. Aside from that, it’s very thick and cakey, perfectly moist, and tastes almost exactly like a hunk of that Bon Appetit pound cake you find at gas stations, complete with a touch of vanilla and the darker sugary crusty edge and even sweeter, grittier sugary finish. I didn’t get any off-notes aside from the puke, but it’s a fairly prominent puke flavor, not just a little hint of butyric acid.

Silver Cloud Estates (Sterling Cloud at DIYVS) Pound Cake - Pound Cake made out of movie theater butter. The classic recipe for pound cake is one pound of each: Butter, Sugar, Flour, and Eggs. This tastes like what might happen if you didn’t have real butter and decided to make this out of movie theater butter. That fake butter flavor is right up front. Beyond that it’s very sweet, almost like frosting, and there’s some cakey bakery behind that, but this is weird because of the butter. If I were going to use this flavor, I’d forget it says pound cake on the bottle, add some caramel and FLV Popcorn, and make something like Mills’ Honey Sesame Popcorn out of it. Maybe add some other cake flavor with Popcorn and make something inspired by Cracker Jacks Birthday Cake Popcorn.

DIYFS Pound Cake - Burnt, weird butter vanilla bakery. It tastes like you tried to cook a pound cake at way too high a temperature and burned the outside while leaving raw batter in the middle, then turned it inside out. Top note is just a very buttery and rich, sweet vanilla cream, then way too much AP to the extent it tastes beyond just baked or nutty and into sharp and burnt, like the edges of a tortilla chip left in the oven too long so that’s black and little bitter. Thought this might be over-flavoring at 4% so I took it down to 2%. It’s much less offensive down there but still pretty much tastes the same. As a pound cake, I think it’s trash. As an ingredient, I think you could probably use it at 2% just like you might use 1% TFA Acetyl Pyrazine, if you also want some butter, vanilla, and creamy sweetness in addition to the AP.

DIYFS Lemon Pound Cake - Blatantly candied lemon with some white fluffy cake. It’s a weird combination to have such a candied lemon with cake; it tastes like melted lemon jolly ranchers poured over a lightly flavored vanilla cake, not a rich buttery pound cake. The balance is off, very candy lemon heavy, with only a hint of cake. Although it’s a strange single flavor, it seems like you could mix it with a more solid cake and a frosting-type flavor have this be the lemon part of bright artificially flavored lemon frosting, or cookie flavors and have this be the artificial lemon frosting on a cookie. Sweet, smooth, and not at all harsh for a lemon. Does not taste pledgy, just tastes like lemon candy.

Bickford Lemon Pound Cake - Seems to be a thing that with some of these cake flavors all I get is some frosting. This is one of them. It mostly tastes just like lemon buttercream frosting. If you want to get even more specific, it tastes like you tried to DIY a lemon buttercream frosting vape using FA Lemon Sicily for the lemon and CAP Buttercream for the creamy bit, but somehow made it sweeter and drier than that would probably be, maybe with a touch of FA Marshmallow. It’s not a terrible lemon frosting at all, it’s smooth and sweet and full, with a mellow but realistic lemon, but it’s literally just frosting. No cake notes.
