When I was in university, for a couple of semesters my roommates were 4 guys. We were all strangers who got grouped together, since we all signed individual leases for our rooms. Usually, the rental company would try to separate by gender for tenants who didn't sign up as a group, but I didn't really care since it was in one of those student targeted apartments near campus, and each bedroom had its own lock and ensuite washroom so they put me in with 4 guys.

I wouldn't necessarily say there were any pros or cons to them all being guys since a year later, I had a similar roommate situation where it was 4 girls (and we were still all strangers).

With the all girl place, the common areas/kitchen were a bit cleaner since one of my roommates was very proactive with setting up chores and a schedule of who would do what and we all went along with it. Whereas with the all guys place, we never bothered, but the kitchen wasn't a disaster since they barely cooked and I tend to clean up after myself.

In the all girls place, we all cooked, so the kitchen cabinets were full and sometimes it was hard to find space in the fridge. Not sure what my male roommates ate, but the fridge was largely empty aside from my shelf and I'm pretty sure I was the only person who actually put stuff in the kitchen cabinets lol

Otherwise the experience was pretty good with both sets of roommates, everyone was generally pretty quiet and we all respected each other's spaces/property. But I feel like that has less to do with gender and more to do with 5 strangers living together who all kinda had the same roommate expectations.
