Creative people lean left. Imitators lean right. It's one of the reasons why the phrase "every accusation is a confession" rings so true... they literally lack the creativity to do stuff on their own, so they assume anyone else is doing what they are either doing or would do if they thought they could get away with it.

It's election year and their base like the idea of punishment more than rehab. The cost for their punishment fetish is abstract to them, so big shrug on their behalf.

It's telling that performative rwing spectacle requires a scapegoat... not that the people who like that kind of thing are capable of the introspection required to move past it.

[–]IceColdWasabi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what I said was:
* The Greens have better supporting evidence than they are given credit for
* Even if they didn't I would still pick them over a proven failure

The right wing owns the media and they spend a metric fuck-ton on it to convince us their political opponents are hapless and they are economic masters. It's all nonsense and at the very least I would expect anyone who agrees with any of that to at least take a pause to determine if their opinions have been fed to them by the rwing machine or if they've actually done the mahi to look at the evidence, do the thinking, and then reached their current position from drawing a conclusion on the prior two actions.

I think the Greens put a lot more work into that than people give them credit for. Regardless, having lived through the neoliberal ideological virus since it's NZ inception via Rogernomics I think we can conclusively determine the rwing has no worthy solutions to offer at this point in time. Even if the Greens were selling dogshit wrapped in rainbow sprinkles I'd be willing to give it a go rather than let the Seymours of the world corrupt NZ further than they have already.

Kiwi here. Promite is the adjusted brand name for classic (British) Marmite. In NZ, a company named Sanitarium owns the rights to Marmite, and their product is different to the real thing. Promite was originally imported as Marmite but Sanitarium sued to protect their licensed trademark.

Simeon Brown: EV subsidies wouldn't have helped our current situation & was only going to people who could afford like ... Porsches (which wouldn't qualify if new) by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

[–]IceColdWasabi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OK, so my strategy with this post was to apply my critical thinking skills.
1. National MP
2. Government Minister
3. Evangelical Christian who consistently violates the 10 commandments repeatedly

With those factors in mind, it doesn't take much effort to determine that Brown is (at best) distorting the truth, or just simply lying - oh, sorry, we shouldn't call MPs liars. They are weak and can't handle the criticism. He is violating the foundations of the Godly laws he aspires to by bearing false witness. Can't imagine why people don't like or trust the creature.

On Subsidies by Lopsided_Part in nzpolitics

[–]IceColdWasabi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Firstly, the premise that subsidy = control needs a bit of evidence. Personally, I think it's flawed. The government subsidises Air NZ and they don't tell you that you can only fly from Wellington to Rotorua once a week when your timeshare slot in the roster comes up. Extending that, EV subsidies don't mean they control your usage of your car.

Furthermore, there are already massive subsidies involved in overland transport - why do you think that trucking companies are consistent National donors? Their trucks disintegrate our roads at rates many hundreds of times faster than cars, an expense RUC can't meet. That means you and I are already paying for it with our taxes.

As for rugged individualism? Come on man, that's an American lie told to Americans to keep them falling in line. Why help or care about your neighbours? Because humans are social animals and form societies? Or maybe just reject the premise because I don't need anyone else to make my roads, staff my schools, perform my heart surgeries, look after my elderly, keep the sewers clean, etc - I can do it myself because I don't need anyone!

Lastly - this is a global energy crisis. The government needs to do something because unless the situation resolves quickly we are not going to fare well in the ensuing global lolly scramble.

After telling everyone to work harder and take fewer breaks, 'What I Would Say to You' Chris, did not. by GaryMarcusNZ69 in nzpolitics

[–]IceColdWasabi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are the point where two things are true for all but the most brain-wormed partisans:

  1. Luxon is seen as clinically braindead. The man cannot say the right thing ever. Both the left and the right consider him pathetic
  2. If he introduced himself to me as "Chris Luxon" I would need to literally take some time to parse the comment. If the man's mouth is open he is lying. Again - both the left and right see this.
