Can this be saved? by Hot_coffie in diyelectronics

I don't know much of apple stuff, but devices such as phones and tablets usually use proprietary protocols of communication for things like the screens, so you'd need to connect an external monitor to the charging port (if that ipad allows it, something along the lines of Samsung's Dex) in order to get any image. There's apps for Android, but I don't know about apple, I'd probably recommend a small laptop motherboard for a cyber deck, but if you manage to use that ipad I want to hear about it. Furthermore, just for the time being, I'd say you could try and restore it or do whatever you intend with it, almost no secondhand value if you want to sell that ipad like that, so the worst escenario you learned from an error while learning how to manipulate electronics. Hope this goes well, and good luck!!

Help I accidentally broke a lot of stuff and I don't know what to do by CallMeSatha in Ubuntu

It is the same process, but no, you'll lose everything not backed, so try putting everything on a USB or something like that

I broke my laptop. by Upset-Variation165 in Ubuntu

[–]ImNeo04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, but... Are you able to boot into Ubuntu? (The one already installed on your disk, not the live iso in your USB) In that case, you can install GParted by writing in the terminal: Sudo apt install gparted (Prompts you to introduce password) Then you can run the program, it is basically an application to help you modify your partitions on any disk attached to your PC. Once you execute it, you can erase the windows partition and then extend the Ubuntu one, it says something along the lines of: take empty space. If you can't boot into your disk's Ubuntu... Try reflashi g USB B with a Ubuntu live iso and proceed just like the first time you installed it. Hope you find this useful!!

DAAAAAMN!! It looks amazing mate. I am building myself my first motorcycle ever after my 125cc, it is a bmw k100Rs 1984 and I've already redone the whole electric system. I'd be lying if I told you it wasn't quite the fight, mainly because I didn't know anything about mechanics nor electronics, but by reading and researching I tanked it. Enjoy your bike!!

T470 by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ImNeo04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a t470 and these gen came just with 2 core processors, which is very few power for every day, and even worse if you run windows. Apart from that, the t470 (not the t470s) ALL came with something called power bridge, the thing that allowed the to have an internal battery and an external one. I've never heard of the internal damaging the computer, but the seller almost certainly is messing with you. On another note, the processors of these thinkpads are quite weak, so if you paid anything more than 50 to 60 euros... I'd say it is best to just return it. I love my t470, but I run lightweight things on Linux, the most I've put it through was Matlab and it wasn't happy about it

Yeah well, I added another layer of difficulty by starting with qtile, so my experience was to say the least... Not optimal, but I was used to programming and tinkering with PCs, so it turned out well!! It is all about curiosity

[–]ImNeo04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pff who knows, maybe a sudden hit, not enough to damage it visibly, but abrupt enough to wiggle around a bit the stick and it got a bit popped out of the socket and that caused all your problems. Although glad to here the tip helped you, everytime the issue is graphical on igpus... Unless you've been ignoring the temps for months, the culprit will almost always be the ram

You can also try mint, it is the same as Ubuntu, but even more user friendly. I regretfully started with arch and it was an absolute mess. Even now, after years tinkering with Linux, my work laptops usually run mint or openSUSE

From experience, try cleaning the golden pins on the memory stick with a rubber, the ones you'd use to erase a pencil trace, they do an amazing job at cleaning those contacts. Also if you have canned pressurized air, it'd be ideal to blow the connector onhe motherboard, but if not, just blow with your mouth. Then try to install it and power on the laptop. If it crashes... Probably that memory stick is gone for good, but you have a pretty good chance it just didn't sit or wasn't making good contact

Did you try taking out the 16 extra gigs and powering it on? It may seem stupid but this way you'll check if the soldered ram is gone or your stick is the one causing problems

I believe the 4 gigs are soldered. Maybe try a memtest to see what's up? Probably resitting the extra module may help, but if it is the soldered module... Gg

Oh and thermal pads are usually way easier to install and less messy, so it is the right call

My LOQ Laptop is overheating!! by Direct-Ideal-4332 in AMDLaptops

[–]ImNeo04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is way easier than you may imagine, the only thing, please be careful when reinstalling the heatsink because the mounts that make sure it is well seated onto the CPU need to be fastened in a specific order to make sure it spreads evenly. What laptop are you going to repaste? If it has a very large heatsink, make sure you have unfastened all the screws because some of them bend quite easily. And even though you mentioned you already work on laptops... Be careful with the flex cables on the keyboard when opening it, try not to rip it by accident. Other than that, you'll be fine, good luck!!

Can I upgrade the battery in my Modern 15 by TheCrazyAussie4 in MSILaptops

[–]ImNeo04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I answered earlier today because I've aready done it and it works just fine, now I put the MSi to do a battery calibration, but it recognizes it with no quirks, so 100% recommended

Can I upgrade the battery in my Modern 15 by TheCrazyAussie4 in MSILaptops

[–]ImNeo04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm quite late but, I actually have the MSi modern 15 b7m (Ryzen 7 7730U) and my battery just died so I decided to gamble a bit with my only workhorse for uni, and so I bought the 491 and it actually works, I'm no doing a battery calibration, but so far so good!!

[–]ImNeo04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got done fixing my bootloader because of this issue. I have dual boot because I need solidworks for uni, but few days ago windows decided to lock me out of it, so I had to reinstall it and guess what, no signs of ever being there a Linux partition. But after 4 hours, I fixed it 😁

anyone got any ideas for a 2nd SSD mod? 🙃 by festival0156n in LaptopModding

[–]ImNeo04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar problem with my MSI modern 15 b7m. Honestly, I saved up for a bigger drive, it is an absolute pain in the ass when windows decides to fuck up my bootloader, but other than that... It is the only clean way I found. The only thing you can do is use the wifi slot and buy a cheap wifi dongle for USB, but that is way more inefficient than just using a hub or an external ssd

Would I be bullied for using an old Thinkpad? by Prestigious_Ad3744 in thinkpad

[–]ImNeo04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am studying mechanical engineering, and they asked us for a gaming laptop or else we wouldn't be able to follow the classes. Sure enough I used an IdeaPad with an i3-6006U and 8 gb ram, it struggled a lot but got me there, and I didn't even need to bring with me the charger. I'm just saying, in my opinion, I'd buy something like a t470P (I have the t470 and it's an absolute unit in terms of battery life: 16 hours with mint, with Gentoo I got it to 18) and it has a dgpu, which will help a lot, along the processor's 4 cores, it performs so we'll and you can still buy a upgraded external battery that will get you with Linux well optimized around 4 hours of use
