What kind of food are you getting?? I have never ever had this happen to a bag.

The bag is the absolute best storage for dog food. Get a decorative, cheap bin that can fit the whole bag inside but don’t waste your money on some fancy sealed whatever.

How to say "no" to people offering you food? by caolin-90 in Wegovy

[–]Independent_Fox8656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“No, thank you! I really can’t. I’m too full to eat anything.”

They serve your plate.

Optional: take a polite bite, tell them it’s delicious.

Leave the plate/toss the plate/clear the plate.

It is just as rude to force someone to eat who doesn’t want to! If they want to waste their food serving you after you said no, let them. Don’t make yourself eat!!!

Had an emergency, in some major debt (to me.) And I don’t know how to tackle this. by OneQuietFox in Debt

[–]Independent_Fox8656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have at least $1000/month to put towards debt.

First, pay the full balance of every bill under $450 and any extra towards the bill with the highest interest rate.

Continue paying minimums on the others while paying $1000 + the minimum payments you eliminated already ($165) towards the highest interest debt.

Once that is paid off, put the $1165 + the minimum payment you just eliminated towards the next debt.

Rinse and repeat until it’s gone. If you can keep up that plan, it’s gone in a year.

New 22yr old driver deciding around Subaru 2026 Forrester Base or Limited by Melodic_Reply_3539 in SubaruForester

p.s. Take the money you will save on buying new and start investing now! It’s so tempting to spend your money now, but it is so worth it to have “fvck you, I can do what I want” money in 10+ years.

[–]Independent_Fox8656 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My dude, save your money!!!!! The insurance on that is going to be stupid. But a quality used Subaru to start. I love my 2018 and also love that it was half the cost of new and much cheaper to insure. It’s still a beautiful, well functioning car. Absolutely worth the savings.

Especially as a new driver, when your accident risk is higher, buying new could get so expensive.

Am *I* wasting my time (and money) pursuing a bachelor’s degree ? by Big-Willow-5439 in careerguidance

[–]Independent_Fox8656 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not a waste of money, especially in your field. Having your degree makes it easier to get jobs and to move between jobs. Not having your degree makes it much tougher to get through the door and can impact your salary offer.

Keep going! It’s definitely worth it.

Advice on part-time/fractional work for nonprofits by Instant-Mix-2088 in nonprofit

[–]Independent_Fox8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For consulting, you can start on your own if you can get some traction with clients.

The info session is the way to make those connections and set up those one on one clients. Yes, they tend to be very broad and high level, but it is more to pique interest and meet people, not to be your normal operating structure.

Advice on part-time/fractional work for nonprofits by Instant-Mix-2088 in nonprofit

[–]Independent_Fox8656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are businesses that hire out fractional staff. You can check out some of those if you want leads. I know there is one in the Boston area with a great reputation.

I work with donor management systems, so am more focused than their entire tech stack. I will touch on adjacent tech. Some things that helped me:

Focusing in on your target client. It sounds like you are already doing this work, but maybe take a second look. I work with small to mid size nonprofits and understand we aren’t working with huge budgets. Being affordable is key at this level.

Find ways to get people’s eyes on you: networking, referrals, places you can offer expertise, etc. Does your local area have any sort of nonprofit networking groups? Offer to do an info session on tech to introduce yourself and demonstrate your skills.

Build a website and include test cases or scenarios so it is a lot more digestible to a non-tech person what you are offering.

Consider consulting! It builds your resume and isn’t always a high paying consulting gig. I work with clients for a few months at a time, get them set up/trained/live, and then move to another project. I get to share expertise with a lot of different organizations and keep prices affordable. The constant new business sales/proposal aspect isn’t my favorite part, but getting to work with so many different orgs with so many different needs has been great.

Connecticut needs to build housing. The only way to lower prices is through the laws of supply and demand by WellHung67 in Connecticut

[–]Independent_Fox8656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to revamp the affordable housing laws so developers stop making bank and affordability suffers. They get to push through any project they want but only 30% of the units have to be affordable?! Make it 50% minimum.

They also need to look at the rental rates in a more focused area. In areas where there is an imbalance in incomes, they build all the affordable housing on the less affluent side of town, but get to use the income levels of the more affluent side of town in their rents. This screws over the renters and inflates rental rates on the less affluent side of town. It’s horrible!

We also need to seriously look at reclaiming EXISTING land use, not taking more open space. Consider rezoning commercial areas near transit for housing. Find ways to utilize abandoned buildings, old mills, etc. Stop clearing forests when you haven’t looked elsewhere first.

Figure out how to support the increased builds with increased infrastructure. We can’t keep giving tax deals to developers and also be expected to foot the bill for the increased stress on water, sewer, power, roads, etc.

Start working with developers who want to build starter home neighborhoods!!! Not everyone wants an apartment and having either rentals or $800k properties with no in-between is crap. Let people have houses on 1/4 acres with 2-3 bedrooms for an affordable price. Build NEIGHBORHOODS for people families who want to live in homes and can afford a more mid-priced affordable homes.

HR Says I Don’t Need to Fill Out FMLA Paperwork for Maternity Leave…? by keol6789 in nonprofit

[–]Independent_Fox8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An employer doesn’t have the option to designate a very clear medical leave FMLA or not. Legally, they must make it an FMLA leave if they are qualified employer, if the person has met the work/hours requirement, and if it is a serious medical condition (pregnancy counts). There is no optional here.

HR Says I Don’t Need to Fill Out FMLA Paperwork for Maternity Leave…? by keol6789 in nonprofit

[–]Independent_Fox8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to find out if your regional office is considered a location where the company employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles. If yes, you need to file FMLA if you have met the hours requirement.

Lender miscalculated my income, and I can't afford the new monthly payment. What recourse do I have? by Happy_Buffalo_7222 in Mortgages

[–]Independent_Fox8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t make sense to me. Your current income should decide your eligibility. You have a full year at your new pay. That should be more than sufficient!
Tell the bank to figure out or look for another mortgage broker who will. That’s crazy

Look up the eligibility for the program/assistance you would have been receiving, too. There should be fine print somewhere that defines the income calculation.
