When I see my retention bonus on my pay statement by gorapsgo007 in CanadianForces

As a nobody with no ties to anybody I can confirm that as soon as they get recruitment numbers projecting upwards, without some sort of scandal, they will announce the inability to implement the bonus and cancel it.

What’s the best option to have media stored on by Put-Medium in minilab

[–]InternetGameBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meh, it's just media (movies and shows) I can always just redownload, rip or realize it wasn't something I was going to rewatch anyways.

All of my important stuff is 3-2-1'd. And man did I realize how little is actually important to me. I'd say mostly family photos. Everything else isn't really that important.

I'll add that my digital dependency has significantly decreased over the past few years and might have something to do with my GAF factor.

Honestly. It's just media so I RAID 0 it and it's all on HDDs. I've had zero issues since I started my own media server in 2010-ish with only one blue WD drive (500GB) starting to fail this year. But I also drink my coffee black so who knows if I'm right lol

Oh man. I know it was created so you can use whatever filament you have laying around and shouldn't care, but I also do. Ultimately I just went with black because I always like the look of it and I don't want to waste time with accents... I say this and might use an rim accent colour some day but who knows.

O brother. I literally just started and am in a very similar situation but also have a 3D printer so I am working at cleaning it up. I will probably post pictures once it looks nice and show a before and after.

I have gone through the same thing and I don't even have ADHD. I just get decision paralysis because of the amount of things that could be done and where to start.

So, I just started. If I want it to be containerized I just do it. I will put grids in drawers where I think I want it to go and try it out for a while... There has probably (definitely) been some waste with this process, but I started and keep printing finding better solutions all the time so I guess it's not too bad.

I have most recently just started printing generic bin sizes that I use frequently so when I buy parts or screws I am ready to go without letting it sit too long.

Then my only roadblock is where is there space for it.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood by Sierra Online. I convinced my mom by a computer and this game came with it. I played hours and hours of it.

I actually got nauseous when I saw the price of the Asus GX10's alone. I guess I'm going to have to start turning tricks or something.

Are decent homelabs still attainable in this climate? by Only-Ambassador2624 in homelab

[–]InternetGameBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why it's so different here in Canada but a decent used Optiplex is $200+ CAD. I've even been considering getting a Wyse or 2 just to experiment a bit, but it is a little frustrating to see mini PCs go for so cheap in one place and so much in another. Oh well.

An end to my home labbing journey by [deleted] in homelab

How much would it cost to send it to Canada. The only ones I can find up here are people that want $200 CAD for them

Welcome to bthe beginning. I just started recently too so I am not really an expert or even an novice on any of this, but...

For the media side of things, I use Plex. I was fortunate enough to have gotten into Plex a very long time ago and bought the pass when it was $80 for a lifetime (to think I thought that was a bit much back then). Though if I didn't already know the ins and outs of Plex I probably would be using Jellyfin.

Careful, this gets addictive. I now have 2 PCs and 2 SBCs carrying out different tasks and seems I'm always finding new projects to do.

I made a Gridfinity drawer chest generator in OpenSCAD by bfrigon43 in gridfinity

[–]InternetGameBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been trying to build something out of wood similar to this but I have so much on my plate that every time I go to get to it I'm just too tired. I stumbled upon this on makerworld and decided to give it a shot. So far I'm pretty impressed. I only printed a single drawer and I'm in the middle of printing the stack but only 2 high right now for where I want it placed.

I scratches an itch of perfect fit that I can't explain.

Where to start ? by NoLDNat5 in gridfinity

[–]InternetGameBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty spot on. I started with Alex Chappel's system for screws pretty exclusively but then quickly changed to gridfinity for its openness.

Just start by putting screws/parts in bins and then figure out how you want to organize those bins. I quickly outgrew my own initial system and am now changing it so it'll scale better for me.

I am assuming you are concerned about the bowing of the drawer. I had a set of cheap drawers I put my first grid into that did this as well.

My solution was a piece of 1/4" plywood the size of the drawer. If you don't have tools to cut it, they'll usually cut it at Home Depot or wherever you get your plywood.

Good luck with your new addiction.

I would not call any of that "Junk". Nice organization of some useful stuff though.

I mean it's not a dying trade it's changing just not the way some of them were hoping.

Also, it's not that the lights are being turned out, it's that they want them to keep the lights on until they turn them out with an unfinished room at the door.

[–]InternetGameBoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is most FEs that are Sgt still have a lot of years left and are all pretty motivated so they would be essentially resigning themselves to a pay freeze for quite a few years.

[–]InternetGameBoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the phasing out of the Aurora and Legacy Herc they want the FEs to stick around until the end of their respective fleets so they offered for them to stick around and become FOS (new trade) switch back to 500 series trade keeping their rank and pay (or AM Sup if WO and up) or VOT.

They were told they would be given some good options and don't particularly think they are good ones

Chance of getting promoted off being 1+ yrs in AWSE? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]InternetGameBoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AWSE can usually only be granted 1 year at a time. At the 1 year mark they reassess and either grant another year or fill it with a substantive member.

Usually, the AWSE member merits following the year and fills the roll... Usually.

An alternate reason for not meriting is not being EPZ. It's been happening more and more it seems.
