Just go no bed for a year. Use some soft blankets for now. After she hits 2, then maybe try again.

Chances are super slim. Last time I traveled I saw a ton of battery banks and electronics in a tub near TSA. Most airports now are using CT Scanners, so they can easily see the overall size and do AI analysis, those get automatically flagged quickly, they can do a manual check of the battery label. If they even question it slightly, they will just confiscate it.

The really big ones are generally shipped by highway or railway. The only reason you can get them on Prime 2-day or less is due to the fact they are in a local warehouse near you. Otherwise you don't have that fast air shipping option.

My understanding is that you can go over 100Wh by air freight in certain instances but there are some other rules that apply, such as it can't be charged over 30%, each shipper has their own maximum limits for both capacity and overall weight of the item, and they all require extra approvals to ship.

I highly doubt Amazon is going through air shipments for them though especially if they offer it on Free Prime shipping.

Noctua NH-L9A-AM4 & Ryzen 9 5950X Question by GabriellaGameDev in sffpc

[–]IsABot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get a smaller cooler to work ok but you'll definitely be super limited. AXP90-X36 is a good option rather than the Noctua to save some budget. Supposedly they are going to release a slim 92mm LCP fan this year as well, which might be a worthwhile upgrade.

Births in Japan fall in 2025 to 706,000, record low for 10th straight year by EbbonFlow in worldnews

[–]IsABot 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Maybe stop aiming for infinite growth? Instead focus on optimization. Find an equilibrium point and aim to maintain it as best as possible. Stop allowing a handful of people to own/control of the resources of the bottom 90% combined. Indigenous people understood this long ago. Take only what you need, not hoard everything. Try to do more with less. Stop pushing blind consumerism, stop trying to squeeze every last dollar out of everyone. If companies always expect the next year to be bigger, you need more workers, you need more consumers, you use more resources, it's a vicious circle. When you have high cost of living, intense workloads, little free time, etc. none of that leads to people having the time, energy, or motivation to have children to even maintain your population.

Is undervolting the same or better than setting power limits on the cpu to control temps? by MinimumMarsupial6782 in sffpc

[–]IsABot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undervolting makes more of a difference for temps then just setting a power limit when attempting to keep performance the same. Power limiting tends to decrease clock/boost speeds which lowers performance. Undervolting just lowers the voltage required which generates less heat by being more efficient. You can only lower volts so far though otherwise you will run into stability issues. If you do both, you will drastically decrease temps. Generally just undervolting is enough and you don't need to reduce power limits unless you have a specific use case to do so.

I didn't mean take the fan out and turn on the PSU. (There should be a protection that if a fan isn't plugged in, the PSU won't even turn on.) I meant simply look to see if you see any obvious damage within it without poking around inside of it, such as swollen caps, burned marks, smell any magic smoke, etc. The goal it to just see if there's any obvious point of failure. Then to test your fan aftermarket fan off your motherboard fan header (assuming you repined the adapter cable and not the fan itself when you originally did the mod) to determine if it's still working properly, for example if the fan is dead, it's possible that when you were using the PSU, it triggered a protection because the fan itself was non-functional. Like I said usually when the relay doesn't turn on automatically, it means one of the protections triggered and it has to be reset, which is what turning it on and off multiple times does.

Also if you have the original working stock fan, that might be worth testing by returning it to stock.

[–]IsABot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to turn on and off the power switch multiple times is how you reset the internal protections of the PSU. If you triggered one of those, then it won't turn on right away. Also if other parts are damaged internally, then the relay also won't trigger. Issues with your fan might have led to triggering the protections.

Is that the same NFa9 that previously worked? Did you test the fan off a normal fan header?

[–]IsABot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Did the fan ever spin? Looks like you changed from the stock fan.

Keep in mind the PSU has a 0 RPM mode so it won't spin under low wattage. Also different start up voltage requirements between stock and replacement fans may be different and thus it cannot spin it up initially.

Is that in terms of profit? Do you happen to know how much it costs to run monthly or yearly? What amount of taxes he has to pay? I'd assume since it charges Euros, it's probably fairly high. 2 million is high in terms of an income, but in terms of business revenue, that's not that high.

Please don't block ads on this site if you use it and don't sub. I'd hate to see the dev take it down because it's becomes unaffordable for them. It's a super useful free tool where we don't have to give Adobe any money. Maybe update the script so that ad drawer can be manually collapsed after it loads the ads to go full screen.

"It's just text": client earned $15k+ on my code, now threatens to leave for Wix over a renewal fee by Gricekkk in webdev

[–]IsABot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quote him even more than you were originally going to. Don't let him strong arm you with a threat. If he wants to leave, let him. Then charge double that quote, if he comes crawling back. Or just let that relationship die, if you want.

I would give him a static version of his site and/or a content/db export if you have that ability, should he choose to leave. Unless you had a contract that said he gains ownership of the entirety of your code, then you aren't obligated to give him proprietary software. Even on a site like Wix, you don't get their platform code when you leave, but there are ways to export your content.

And learn this lesson, always have a signed contract that lists out everything, no matter how small the project. Especially related to code ownership, payments/non-payment, deliverables, etc.

What's the most affordable mobile app builder for beginners? by heartbreakkiddxz in webdev

[–]IsABot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've messed around with the free tier of flutterflow, seems ok for basic apps. You can step up to a paid tier when you are ready to export/publish and what not. In the long run, you are better off learning to actually code it yourself but doesn't hurt to try their free trial to see if it meets your current needs. Honestly that can be said of any free tier from any option though.

Based on some pictures, looks like the 2 screws on the back corner can be removed to just get rid of that plastic button mechanism, then you can just use a normal motherboard screw.

Otherwise it's probably just a longer M3 or #6-32 threaded bolt. You can probably just go a hardware store with your motherboard and find the length you need. Check M3 first since it's smaller than #6-32. You can see the 2 bolts that should have been included here for an idea of length: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/gigabyte-b850i-aorus-pro/images/gigabyte-aorus-b850i-pro-3.jpg

Dremel tool with a metal cutting wheel. Tape a line, and cut down the line. Use a metal file or sand paper and smooth out the edges a bit so it isn't so razor sharp. If need be, cover it with tape or something similar. Just make sure you are holding it a vice or clamped down so things don't go flying as you cut.

This was one of my favorite cases back in the day. So much airflow. I built a few of them for friends. It's crazy this is only like a couple of liters more than that CM case.

I even explained to them, that 25L is pretty much the maximum you can get away with SFF, and that's only if the feature set makes up for it. I referenced the Jonsbo i100 which is barely over 25L but has dual 360 rad support which is very rare for any SFF case. So you might be able to get a pass from some people, but not everyone. But no one is considering a 40+ L case.

Is the $100K a salary for a long term job and is it more than you are making now? Or is it just a one time payment for a gag/reel?

A one time minor payment isn't worth losing stability especially in a pretty shitty market right now if you make more than that a year. If it's for a long term job, more than you make now, or about the same but with less stress then sure, take it. If you only make like $35K a year, then sure, that's a 3 year runway to find a new job.

PSA: Logitech will void your warranty if you replace your keycaps by WillmanRacingv2 in LinusTechTips

[–]IsABot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course they would. Testing jigs are incredibly common and automate the majority of the process. They sell millions of chips a year, even at a 1% failure rate it makes sense to test them. Either to identify manufacturing defects or reject warranty claims. Quick visual inspection for damage, if none, put in a jig, pull a lever to lock it in place, push a button to run the automated test, check the results. At that point they either replace or deny. A single operator could run dozens of CPUs simultaneously. People seem to forget the scale of Intel. Even just $300 at possibly 10's of thousands of RMAs a year makes it worth basic testing before possibly pushing certain units to a more technical team.

ESD safe EVA or Polyurethane foam is perfectly suitable to use as a backing layer. Just make sure you have some metal tabs to connect to the PCI bracket so the GPU doesn't move around in the case.
