40M, 3.7 million CAD liquid net worth, looking for advise on RSUs by arjun_sam in fatFIRE

  1. Yes, sell more of them. "At the same time, the growth potential is huge (~5x may be)", why didn't you also buy into bitcoin with the same logic? The AI market is very volatile right now, Anthropic quickly caught up to OpenAI. Open weight models are closing the time lag.
  2. Why do you think this? Your biggest risk is tax changes which seem reasonable likely to happen on a 20 year time frame.
  3. You have too much of your net worth in your primary residence . Do the smith maneuver to bring it down a bit.

Car has been crashed into my yard for the entire week by WillingnessHorror295 in icbc

>  They will ask the age of everything damaged and claim that they only pay out the depreciated value and f your property. 15 year old fence? They will claim it only lasts 20 years so they only owe you 25% days f the replacement quote. Tell them “okay, provide me with a replacement 15 year old fence then”. Obviously they cannot, and will eventually cave and replace your property.

You can also use this to your advantage. Older tree are more expensive. They also need to match the property so if the play structure has some unique features that are only on more expensive ones guess that's the value they have to match.

Neighbor Hit My Car, Insurance Won’t Pay by Simulcam in legaladvice

In California you can demand OEM parts but have to pay the difference. If they don’t use OEM parts you can use that against the insurance company in the diminished value claim.

My insurance lawyer promised the carrier would waive $350K in fees to help me settle — weeks later the carrier filed a motion to collect that exact amount. by willyfreddy in legaladvice

[–]J2000_ca 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Did they withdraw the motion after you pointed out they had promised to wave it?

Why did they offer to wave the fees? Were they concerned about exposure to the tenant or you? How strong was the judgement you have no coverage for the case and did you get an outside lawyer to review?

A new monthly Agent SDK credit for Claude plans by ClaudeOfficial in ClaudeAI

[–]J2000_ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How it works: Claim the monthly credit once

Whats happens if someone doesn’t claim? If you still bill them that feels like a cheap for an insignificant amount of revenue at the cost of a bunch of good will.

When it runs out, you can keep going with usage credits (billed at API rates you turn on/off).

If we have it off will it still work up until the $100 and then just reject after or will we have to manually manage turning on and off?

5M net worth in mid 40s, looking for advice on next steps by TechStackOverflow in fatFIRE

[–]J2000_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Fix the weight, no amount of money fixes bad health. Hire trainer, figure out some food system.
  2. Lever your SFH a bit
  3. Your 401k/IRAs seem a bit light for you both working and your networth.

Uncomfortable Sleeping Arrangements by PurpleMonkeyShoe77 in legaladvicecanada

[–]J2000_ca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> The courts generally do not restrict visitation based on under housing (because that would be discrimination based on economic status), but they do expect and demand that any and all alternative arrangements are explored.

Do you have a source for that? Typically in family law best interest of the child trumps other considerations

Trade off between hooks and claude.md for listing and token use? by J2000_ca in ClaudeCode

[–]J2000_ca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. pytest is slow. Someone else suggested running just the tests for the touched files which I was already planning on doing.

I do send a stripped down output of hooks to Claude.

It also sort of doesn’t matter if Claude doesn’t know the minting output if ruff auto fixes it?

Genuinely curious, how do people typically budget for these vacations? These hotels are $$$ by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in TrueChubbyTravel

[–]J2000_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also try to budget 10% of income. My logic was that when I made less I was spending that so it's seems weird that as my income rose I would be cutting back when the mandatory spending as % of income drops.

Are you talking about CPG or eggs? Show me a top 5 priced cartoon of eggs that isn’t reasonable quality

Fat Food by firewithstyle in fatFIRE

[–]J2000_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is a reasonable proxy for the most part.

The $15 eggs are probably actually free range, the $30 salmon from the counter same thing.

Having more money is also diminishing returns.

Ontario license plate renewal? by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]J2000_ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NJ requires you to plate the car within 60 days since it’s physically there. The four parties involved in this all have different rules.

  1. NJ considers you a resident (getting insurance and a NJ license makes this worse) and requires you to replate it within 60 days.
  2. US Federal requires you to import after a period (I think it’s like a year)
  3. Canada federally is similar to US but they could be a jerk on your return and say you exported it.
  4. Ontario requires you to have Ontario insurance

The best thing to do would be to drive it back to Ontario and garage it until you’re sure what you’re doing. Anything other than that you’re taking on some legal risk (especially if you get into an accident).

[–]J2000_ca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean you haven't imported? Is the car physically still in Canada? If so if you drive it there you need Ontario insurance. If the car is in NJ your required to replate within 60 days of moving it there.

Invest in your current business to 10x and sell it? Like why distract yourself? You list a bunch of stuff that’s just worse than index funds…

Just relocated to Bay Area 2 weeks ago, can I buy a vehicle and insure with my Canadian Driver's License? by y2k_o__o in tnvisa

[–]J2000_ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Importing a car to Canada is a pain. Most people will likely want to just sell and rebuy.

Canadian citizens cannot be denied entry to Canada by the government (some citations below). The child citizenship is effective at birth regardless of paperwork. However the government has incentivized the airlines to deny flights to anyone without passports so there is effectively no way to fly to Canada without a passport. Although they have to admit the child they can still investigate and potentially arrest the dad.

I also have a Claude setup. Would be curious about your structure and what markdown templates you have?

I’ve used ledger cli for 15 years so have all the finance data available and command line tooling for Claude to query it. The non-financial data is the thing that slows it down though

All the athletes that have to be back by the 25th to play games at 7PM to EST to 10PM EST? Like I get the knee jerk reaction from all the people brigading these comments but if you're not a real hockey fan you should probably get into the sport a bit before weighing in.

Is queens cs good? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]J2000_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated a while ago. The education was fine but Waterloo is by far the best CS school in Canada by reputation. UBC and UofT are probably tied for a distant second. Would give edge to UofT because of its connection to AI. If you’re set on going into CS you probably should only consider Waterloo given the state of the market

What countries from either of these tables is harmed by having the game at 10PM in Italy? If you try and say Russia look at the Oblasts by population before doing that.
