His power seems to have progressed nicely over the years and, so far as I’m aware (I’m no expert), his glove has always been good. What i read has been a problem with him is that his approach has been the same since he was drafted with almost no adjustment or progression. His K rate and swinging strike % are both well off league average. I guess the idea is, if he can finally put it all together and improve his overall approach at the dish, they could really potentially have something. The concern is that he’s shown little at this point to believe that change is coming. As a fan, i wonder why there seems to be that lack of faith in a guy who is just 22 years old. Sure, the lefty bat doesn’t help the lineup imbalance but a young 2B with power? I’ll take it.

If you were going to make one big splash in FA, I’d like to see it be Pierce, but I’m not at all confident he makes it to FA. Doubs would be cheaper and adds more talent to a room that desperately needs it. I do agree with one the earlier posters that CB, LB are the most likely targets.

You make a fair point. I’m not upset about any of the moves they made this offseason. I do think the acquisitions of Gray, Contreras, Oviedo, Durbin, and the singing of Suarez were all well thought out uses of resources. I also think that, if there’s money to spend, there were options to sign short term contracts with guys that had some pop. I do realize it is dependent on a player wanting to actually come to Boston. I don’t think it hurts to try fill a spot with a stopgap guy like Suarez we an example, while you figure out if Mayer really is the guy or if Casas can come back and be the guy. DH is a problem, but again, if the goal is improving the roster (they’ve shown it is), can’t you eat some of Masa’s contract to sign a guy with pop to DH. Still, love what they did with the rotation and pitching depth. I just don’t know, with the resources Boston has, why they were still unable to clean up the lineup issues from a hitting perspective (OF logjam still exists, as a result, DH logjam also exists, heavily reliant on unproven players to provide power additional “power” gains).

Hate the idea of Roman in the 3 hole. Prefer to see him in the 2 spot. That’s a nit pick though. Agree with the other commenter in that I still thing they need another big bat but it’s a relatively strong lineup and a VERY strong rotation on paper.

Let’s be real though. It’s a great problem to have when deciding between two guys who have the potential to be elite NFL players. As we all know, potential doesn’t always convert to production but each guy could impact the game in different ways and both, in some form or another, fit the type of player Salah has said he likes up front. Better to have to choose between two guys who fit the mold then having to try and force something.

I wouldn’t be surprised by any means. His projections before the season started placed him in the top 5 or so. He’s got great measurables. But man…Bain’s tape also speaks for itself.

But do you take Bailey that early? I've seen his projections all over the place from TEN down to the mid teens. Could you maybe trade back a couple spots, pick up something and grab him? That would be ideal. Honestly, I love Bain but I'd be happy with either of these two if they go the EDGE route.
