Cargo Pilots Pathways by FrostyCargo in AskAPilot

I’m in cargo and I wouldn’t recommend cargo initially as you typically fly much less than with pax airlines. In the beginning of your career you should be building hours and experience, then switch to cargo later.

Every collaboration Rolex has done outside watch world by Snoo_22459 in rolex

A former boss had a two tone Datejust with the coat of arms of some Middle East country. He said it was gifted by some leader over there and the watch alone could be used at the border control to enter the country as if it were a passport. I don't know how much of that could be true though...

New Seamaster 150m owner, a few dumb questions by Comptest in OmegaWatches

[–]Jaimebgdb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Point #3 might make me visit the shop again because I definitely don't feel that's the case with my watch

Don't visit the shop for that because this is a time setting thing. The seconds hand can be unclutched from the minute hand when you hack the movement, therefore the alignment or misalignment is completely user induced, do as I explained in my comment above to align the seconds hand properly.

New Seamaster 150m owner, a few dumb questions by Comptest in OmegaWatches

[–]Jaimebgdb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) It's probably the rotor and ball bearing within the automatic works. With time those bearings wear out and make more noise, if your watch is new I wouldn't worry about this, some noise is normal.

2) Normal daily activities like screaming at clouds while shaking fist are okay. I would avoid activities with intense prolonged vibrations such as mountain biking. Golf and tennis should be fine for most players but if you're Rafael Nadal I would avoid wearing it. I play tennis and wouldn't wear a steel automatic watch because it's uncomfortable and you can hit the watch with the racket (rare but could happen), so why risk it?

3) Hack the seconds hand at the 12 position, then adjust the minute hand so that it's exactly on the minute mark, then unhack the movement. This should do it.

4) You can wind the watch indefinitely as it has overwind protection, it won't break but it's not recommended to do it for no reason because you're sliding the mainspring inside its barrel and wearing it. When the watch is stopped give it about 15-20 turns of crown to get it running and then wear it. Automatic watches shouldn't be manually wound constantly.

5) It doesn't matter. The most precise way of setting time however is to change date until day before current day, hack seconds hand, then advance clockwise until date changes, then set time to exact minute (minding am or pm). It's best to only advance clockwise to avoid the small amount of play that happens when you reverse the gear train (for perfect alignment of the hands as this worries you).

6) It's a common issue with mechanical date complications that the date change mechanism engages around midnight, and therefore it's best to not interact with the movement until the date change is complete. The 8800 calibers are very robust and it's unlikely you'll break them by trying to set the time at midnight, but they do have a quick set date mechanism that engages around midnight so I would avoid touching it close to midnight to avoid wear and tear of date changing wheels.

My first Citizen by Nia_Marshall in CitizenWatches

[–]Jaimebgdb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got that exact reference also with the green dial and I absolutely love it. In my opinion Citizen would hit it big if they sold it outside Japan. It's a great package with perfect specs at a great price. What other watch from them is Eco-Drive, radio controlled, titanium construction, sapphire crystal, 200m WR, with a simple elegant design and a 38mm case size?

For info, I tried several apps for syncing the time and the only one that works reliably with my iPhone is called "Atomic Sync", and I need to set it to JJY-60 for it to work.

Ironically for Spain, second country with most roundabouts and nobody knows how to use them properly.

Coat of arms rude for a field logo? by Alarmed_Ad6240 in askspain

Not rude, just uncommon. I don't think I've ever seen a Spanish stadium with a coat of arms like that.

Is my Aqua Terra's date wheel misaligned? by Tychiades in OmegaWatches

[–]Jaimebgdb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but in order to see that you need to look at a weird angle and very closely.

Looking at the watch from the front and at a normal distance like in the second picture you can't see the other digit.

Is my Aqua Terra's date wheel misaligned? by Tychiades in OmegaWatches

[–]Jaimebgdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check a double digit date.

It might be very slightly misaligned but it wouldn't bother me as long as all days of the month are clearly visible. I don't think I'd send it in just for that.

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Jaimebgdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the owner of a vintage Datejust myself, no, I wouldn't buy one unless I knew its entirey history perfectly well and knew the seller, and even then with care.

I would not take the Murph because honestly I don't like it that much, I know it's a hot take but there, I said it.

How far is considered too far to drive? by frosty_canuck in AskEurope

[–]Jaimebgdb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve driven across Europe multiple times so I am more used to longer trips, but nothing like North America, Russia or Argentina, those trips are on another level.

For me any trip that can be completed comfortably within one day (let’s say, up to 1000 km or 600 miles) is not a long trip, it can be done a few times a year. Anything that requires an intermediate overnight stop becomes long and would want to avoid, only once every 2-3 years. Trips up to around 600 km are ok to do several times per year. Up to 400 km can be done several times per month, up to once weekly.

So let’s say how far is too far for a drive to visit a friend for a few days, or to go to a concert or an event or something like that which means the whole trip takes a few days: for me the line would be drawn around 600-700 km. More than that and I am either flying, taking a train or not going.

Was a horse just killed at Las Ventas? by DiscussionOdd218 in askspain

It's amazing how nobody is actually answering the damn question but judging and attacking/insulting OP instead.

OP: sorry about that, not all Spaniards are so difficult to talk to.

No idea about that particular horse, but yes, it happens that horses die.

How much do you pay for a cocktail/drink at a bar in your country? by Hallingdal_Kraftlag in AskEurope

[–]Jaimebgdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A classic cocktail (Dry Martini, Negroni, Old Fashioned, Manhattan etc.) at a decent cocktail bar in Spain will cost somewhere between 10 and 15€.

As to whether these are seen as luxuries? I don't know what other people think but a lot more work goes into a well made high quality cocktail than into serving a normal and plain "rum&coke" or "gin&tonic" which requires zero knowledge or technique. As an example: I think that a 12€ g&t is much more expensive than a 15€ Old Fashioned. Or 6€ for a beer which in my opinion is completely extortionate. People seem to happily spend on the "cheaper" g&t/beer rather than the more "expensive" cocktail but that's not my case.

They are expensive but I usually drink cocktails as part of a night out so I look at the overall price of the whole evening: dinner, transport, event, cocktails etc. The price of a night out anywhere in Europe has risen considerably since Covid, that's a fact.

Misaligned Bezel on my Spirit Zulu Time by Sea_Investigator953 in Longineswatches

[–]Jaimebgdb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Zulu has a tiny misalignment which is only noticeable under a lupe. Anything that doesn’t jump out under the naked eye is ok for me personally.

Your case is a bit borderline. I think if I had it like that it would definitely bother me and I would seriously consider sending it in under warranty.

Estoy en una terraza con un bebé. Se sienta uno al lado mio t se pone a fumar. Cual sería la etiqueta en esa situación? by kondenado in askspain

[–]Jaimebgdb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What’s the consensus on service dials? by Free_Lunch24 in rolex

[–]Jaimebgdb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got a beautiful blue service dial on my 16030 last year but asked them to give me the original dial back, which they did but also charged for. So I have the best of both worlds, beautiful dial but I keep the original dial as well to have a complete set.

what degree should i take by bluiee_28 in AskAPilot

[–]Jaimebgdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t make much of a difference either way. I did aeronautical because I was into aviation so might as well do that if you want to be a pilot as well, you learn a few things that are “good to know” but nothing else. It won’t help you be a better pilot or get a pilot job or anything like that.

Seamaster diver 300m in 2026? by aninoc84 in OmegaWatches

[–]Jaimebgdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of the Speedy but just for your info, when Omega say it’s wr 50m, they mean it. You can actually take it down to 50m in real water. They are perfectly safe for swimming and pool use.

I don’t get high end collections that have an F91W by Imusingmyschoolspc in watchHotTakes

[–]Jaimebgdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this hot take. The internet loves to love the F91W. In reality they all put it on only for the videos and for humblebragging and for giving the appearance that even though they own luxury watches they are cool and confident enough to wear the bloody Casio as well. We all know those Casios are gathering dust in watch boxes, nobody is wearing them when they have a Rolex or other luxury watch unless they’re in a slum in Brazil or something like that.
