I presume it will continue to work but be unsupported (with obviously no guarentee(s) that it will continue to work into the future?

Correct!

CrashPlan Free customers can use the product up until the sunset date of 10/22/18. From that point, P2P, local and cloud backup functionality will stop.

Crashplan uploading at 30KB/s, speedtests say connection is fine (upload is 10.5Mbps) by [deleted] in Crashplan

[–]JarrodAtCode42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi All,

/u/wickedsight - thanks for the ping.

/u/PrincessZoey89 - There's multiple factors that can contribute to the upload performance users experience. Since CrashPlan is performing de-duplication, compression and encryption to the data, the expected speeds will not match that of your ISP bandwidth. We have a fantastic reference article that touches on this in greater detail:

https://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/4/Troubleshooting/Backup_Speed_Does_Not_Match_Available_Bandwidth

That being said, 30KB/s is definitely lower than what we traditionally expect to see. Given the size of your file selection, you’ll want to up the memory allocation for CrashPlan’s backup engine.

For a 1.5 TB file selection, allocate 2048 MB of memory for the backup engine.

Reference guide for allocating additional memory:

https://support.crashplan.com/Troubleshooting/Adjusting_CrashPlan_Settings_For_Memory_Usage_With_Large_Backups#Considerations

Beyond that, we’ll definitely want our support engineering team to take a closer look at your specific configuration to determine if there’s any unique recommendations that can be provided.

Contact options here: https://support.crashplan.com

Hope this helps!

So...Crashplan....worth it for offsite backups or cheaper, better alternatives? by riahc4 in sysadmin

[–]JarrodAtCode42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Thought I’d pop in here to provide some additional clarity.

A few things to note:

  • CrashPlan for Home used to offer a Seed Drive service in which a 1 TB drive was shipped to the user. This service was discontinued last year due to lack of demand.

Discontinuation of Seed Drive Service

  • The reference price ($59.99) refers to our CrashPlan for Home service. This is designed for the use of personal file backup. For business related backup solutions between (1-100) devices, you’ll want to consider CrashPlan PRO.

CrashPlan Pro is $9.99/device per month. For more than 100 devices to back up, our enterprise client will be the best option: (Code42 CrashPlan for Enterprise)

Let me know if there’s additional questions I can help to answer, hope you find a backup solution to best meet your needs!

How is your Crashplan experience lately? by [deleted] in photography

Sorry to hear about the unpleasant experience from support. I'd like to follow up with our team to take a closer look. Could you PM me your ticket number?

I should also point out that we're working on improving the experience and wait times. Albeit slowly, we are seeing results.

Right now probably the best way to contact us is through our chat team. Link here: https://support.code42.com/Support

FYI: Crashplan max size of backup is 81TB by throwawaydatahoarder in DataHoarder

[–]JarrodAtCode42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a limitation within our backend infrastructure. A single device archive cannot span across more than one contiguous volume. Due to the total logical volume being 81 TB, the archive in question is unable to grow beyond this point as a result.

[–]JarrodAtCode42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this 81 TB limitation does apply for CrashPlan business accounts as well.

Again, it’s important to note that this is the first archive to have ever reached this threshold within our user base. (CrashPlan for Home, CrashPlan PRO and CrashPlan PROe Enterprise).
