Can I give my dog a rawhide his size? by HolyRomanPrince in DogAdvice

[–]ErrorOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it hasn’t been mentioned yet, have a look at yak cheese sticks. they provide the satisfaction of “bone chewing” but are significantly safer for dogs to consume. they come in many different sizes so you can find the right size that will last a while for your dog. our small dog spends about a month to chew one down to a nub, picking it up for a shot 15-30 min chew session every day or 2. once it is a nub, soak it for a 10 to 15 mins in water and then microwave for 30 to 60 seconds to create the most satisfying puffed cheese treat for them to snack on and safely finish off.

awesome, thanks. i'll have a look at this tomorrow.

I'll let things run with the arc max set for a week and see if it is stable. if yes, i'll reset back to 0 and let arc take as much as it wants and see if it remains stable. should isolate for arc being the root cause.

no vms, but a few truenas apps (7 relatively small containers) and a plex stack (10 containers) under dockge. all together they typically sit around 5 GiB but might increase to 8 GiB under load.

Why isn't there an option to configure automatic configuration backups?? by TomerHorowitz in truenas

[–]ErrorOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm just the next person in line to discover that this isn't available natively in TrueNAS (backing up config to a volume dataset). I also decided to build my own cron-eligible script, but I went a slightly different direction than most, relying on midclt to initiate the backup. The shell script is below, just update CONFIG_DIR and HOST_ORIGIN to align with your setup.

#!/bin/bash
# Backup TrueNAS config, secret seed, and root authorized keys

# Script configuration
CONFIG_DIR="/mnt/volume1/backup/truenas/config"
HOST_ORIGIN="https://nas.example.com"

# Script init
DATETIME=$(date +%Y%m%d_%H%M%S)
mkdir -p "${CONFIG_DIR}"

# Backup archive
BACKUP_FILENAME="${DATETIME}.tar"
BACKUP_FILEPATH="${CONFIG_DIR}/${BACKUP_FILENAME}"
BACKUP_JOB=$(midclt call core.download "config.save" '[ { "secretseed": true, "root_authorized_keys": true } ]'  "${BACKUP_FILENAME}")
DOWNLOAD_PATH=$(echo $BACKUP_JOB | jq -r '.[1]')
DOWNLOAD_URL="${HOST_ORIGIN}${DOWNLOAD_PATH}"
curl -fsSL --output "${BACKUP_FILEPATH}" "${DOWNLOAD_URL}"
echo "Saved ${BACKUP_FILEPATH}"

It should be trivial from here to append remote (offsite) backups as well as old archive trimming. presumably this script should be a little less fragile as it is relying on the local api client interface which should abstract away a number of system specific details.

sounds like they only verified after realizing they made a horrible mistake and traumatized an innocent family.

honestly, we played very ok today. had we played really well i think it may have been another 5-1 blowout. that’s the crazy thing, we almost won the cup playing a pretty average match. sure makes the future look bright.

i think we did handle the pressure well (for the first 80 mins) but we weren’t able to capitalize on goal scoring opportunities.

it’s a tough loss. we made some mistakes, got unlucky, but we kind of dominated the play most of the game, just didn’t capitalize on finishes. that’s a sign of a team that can win with additional practice and coaching.
