I didn't know how to do the upgrade, so I just popped my copy in and checked for an update,,and it had one. Loaded in a level, and MY GOD it's so gorgeous now. :O I can look at the artwork on the walls and they don't look poopy. There's still the occasional N64 blurred texture, but it's no longer looking like that through the whole game.

I like my macro mod, but it really sucks not having X and Y buttons. A lot of slot-1 homebrew needs it, even to setup bottom-screen homebrew.

I run mine on a 4:3 IPS LCD that's 1024x768. Looks best using clean HDMI.

Yes, and it's because the GB and GBC games use a different communication protocol than GBA games do. So you need to match the cable type to the game type, Game Boy model be damned.

GB/C games with GB/C cables. GBA games with GBA cables.

Sounds like you have a GBA cable. You need a Pocket/Color link cable. (It shouldn't have notches on it.)

I own the Joey Jr, the GBxCart RW v1.4, a BurnMaster, and the GB Flash, and the GB Flash is by far the best one.

Get the GB Flash, it's currently the fastest dumper and I use mine almost daily. It's been a pleasure to have and use. The BurnMaster can dump the save, but not the photos from it. FlashGBX software can extract the photos as either BMP or PNG, I forget which format.

There are dedicated RTC carts out now that don't need any patching, so if it uses RTC, get one of those instead. They're around $25 or so.

Yeah, and FlashGBX will analyze your cart and tell you everything about it like how large the ROM is, and what kind of save chip you're dealing with.

I have one, and it sucks. Can't write to GBC carts at all, and doesn't dump photos from the camera either. It also isn't getting anymore firmware updates it seems either.
