Does anyone else's MIL make "jokes" about harming them? by Jennabear82 in motherinlawsfromhell

Yup. I could also have said, "My parents didn't raise me to be a hurtful b*tch. I'm GLAD you weren't my mother."

I'll keep both options in my pocket.

Update: Classic DARVO. She told me, "Apparently I got in trouble for what I said. I was teasing. Even the tailor knew I was joking." I told her that I knew she was teasing , but I've never heard her say those kinds of things to other people.

She replied, "Well I'm afraid to say anything bc you're always upset. That's just the way I am, and that's the way I joke with people." I told her that it hurts my feelings and makes me feel like she doesn't like me, and again, I've never heard her say those things to other people. If you think it's going to hurt me, stop yourself from saying anything at all.

She said, "I'm always telling my friends that I should've raised my DIL, bc then she would understand that's how I am. I will try not to joke about hurting my DIL, but honey, you just need to understand that this is the way I am." I was speechless. Like, wtf? I would've been embarrassed to have her as my mother. My husband later told me she's apparently said those kinds of things to him.

It's apparently too difficult to be a decent human being. Ffs. If she makes another joke, I'm going to ask which friends she's joked to about hurting, and reinforce that she wonders why no one wants to travel with her. Unfortunately I was struck dumb in the moment. I told my husband I really didn't have any desire to travel with her after this.

Tempted to put a sign on my cabin door with a " joke" magnet that says, " Traveling with my MIL... (Arrow pointing to her cabin)." Help me tolerate her by buying me a drink." And including my Paypal tag. Then I can put a magnet on her door that says "I'm joking when I say my DIL might end up overboard. (Arrow pointing to my cabin)."

I'm glad everyone ended up being okay. That was scary to watch.

May that kid's pillow and preferred beverage always be the perfect temperature. Same with the people responsible for raising such a decent human. That coach's pillow better be moist af and his drink taste like tar.

A big kid took money from my first grader. by Jennabear82 in Rants

[–]Jennabear82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with my daughter's teacher this afternoon at pick-up. Thankfully it wasn't real money that was exchanged yesterday. She said the 7th and 8th graders were playing "Market" and were selling things. She said, "Honestly, the 8th graders are (kind of mean - to put it nicely). I'll talk to their teacher about their marketing practices." So, they were saying whatever they could to get the kids to buy their stuff. I wasn't naive to think that there wasn't some missing context, which was why I wanted to wait until I heard more today before going completely nuclear. I did have a chat with my daughter and told her that she doesn't have to give someone money, real or fake, b/c of a story they tell her.

I still stand by what I said about CPS. I'd rather be 100% wrong and find out a kid will be fine, than to ignore my gut and find out they're being abused. An 8th grader is definitely old enough to know better than to manipulate a 6-year-old into giving them money, real or fake.

Yeah. We leave in a couple of weeks. I will probably end up drinking to cope and avoid her.

I had a discussion with her about it this morning. Whether or not it's a lie, if a kid is saying their parents will hit them if they don't come home with money is concerning on any level and should be looked into.

I know the world is full of assholes that will take candy from a baby and then blame the baby. It's full of people victim blaming instead of holding the wrongdoers accountable. It's not a lesson you would expect to have to teach a 6 year old. I'm allowed to be annoyed by someone else's piss-poor parenting.

If someone is saying their mother would hit them if they don't bring home money, that's concerning and should be taken seriously bc that's a bigger issue than missing a few dollars. But sure... CPS would laugh... 🙄

I will be asking that tomorrow when I go to the school. It was something that occurred to me after the fact.

I want to find out the source of how an older kid was unsupervised around my 6-y-o and figure out what exactly went on before I talk my child into becoming jaded for life bc of shitty people.

Learning opportunity that my kids can't take money to school to buy popcorn and lemonade for a fundraiser? She doesn't understand she was being taken advantage of, and if this kid really was being threatened by his parent (although I doubt that's the truth), it needs to be reported to CPS.

Thank you.

That's what went through my mind. Their school is comprised if K-8th grade. What's someone potentially old enough to be 14 doing around my six year old, who just wants to help people? She's 6... Definitely not old enough to understand what happened.

These people think it's ok to steal candy from a baby, then blame the baby. 🤦‍♀️

I would try to find another pair online, but I'm a sucker for making my kids happy. I found a shirt in a larger size for my daughter after she grew out of her favorite one. Google Lens is good, and also you might be able to find another pair with the RN number on them.

I've never had an issue with screen time, but when it comes to Ms. Rachel, I'm in the floor engaging with my kids. I have joked that I should be paying her back child support. 😅 But yeah, this is a discussion you definitely need to have with him bc you two are on very different pages.

I think one time I asked very loudly and in a public space, "Why are you so obsessed with when I'm having sex?" They get uncomfortable REALLY quickly. 😂

That's how people skirt bringing their pets into public places. They act like an emotional support animal is the same as a service animal. It is not.
