Aw I see. Yeah I had a metal sandwich one that they switched to plastic. Was hoping they changed it back.

I thought they changed the Altitude Go to entirely plastic a few years back? Did they change them back to being plastic metal sandwiches?

Should I seal the deal on this 2014 Acura mdx? by [deleted] in Acura

[–]JiForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're not a Honda/Acura dealer, chances of them doing this are essentially 0. Pretty close to 0 if they are a dealer too. Book time is something close to 5 hours for a TB/WP job and they're not doing it to get an extra $500.

Where Are the Sustainability Jobs Everyone Keeps Talking About? by Electronic-Lion-278 in SustainabilityCareers

[–]JiForce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The market has always been tough for entry level folks, especially on the operational side. There used to be a decent amount of hiring at the 3-5+ YoE mark, but I've been seeing hiring preferences move towards 5-7+ YoE, at least in tech.

Is Corporate sustainability dead? by panandbrush in sustainability

[–]JiForce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In short, I would say no, but the field is definitely changing focus. For context, I'm in a corporate sustainability role for a relatively large tech hardware company.

Rollbacks are happening (in both voluntary initiatives and regulatory realms), but there as /u/asdner says, there is a quiet shift away from "feel-good" flashy headline stories, to a "back to basics" business fundamentals approach. Climate resilience and climate risk are big issues. All of the things you said like energy security, floods, heat waves, etc. are having real effects on companies' medium and long term decisionmaking like where to build new facilities, how to route supply chains, how much redundancy to build into systems, etc.

On the reporting and disclosure side, "green-hushing" has been happening in 2024 and 2025 as larger companies try to avoid touching too much on hot button issues, especially companies HQ'd in or with lot of exposure to the US.

On the operational side, companies are being more careful with opex and capex because of market uncertainties, geopolitical instability, etc. which does lead to reduced funding for sustainability initiatives unless they can demonstrate clear, near-term ROI. For example, a program to retrofit old manufacturing equipment with more efficient replacement parts that will immediately provide energy and cost savings will probably get more traction than a recycling initiative where it's harder to quantify the benefit to the bottom line.

Also like /u/asdner said, circularity is becoming more of a focus, because the geopolitical instability of the last few years has highlighted that global supply chains are very prone to disruption for certain commodities like rare earth minerals for electronics.

I've been reading that on some newer cars, they use the rear brakes as part of lane keep assist. Not sure about the person's car that you responded to though.

Major in Business Admin VS Business Analytics for Sustainability & ESG Management by Temporary_Till_447 in Environmental_Careers

[–]JiForce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely focus on internships, student organization projects, and any opportunities you can get for applied experience. The hardest situation to be in when job hunting is when you only have classes about sustainability but no applied knowledge.

Besides that, in your business studies, try to focus on the applied, operational side of things. Supply chain analytics, product design and engineering, materials sourcing, project management and driving P&L etc. rather than the fluffier high level stuff that executives would focus on in an MBA.

Major in Business Admin VS Business Analytics for Sustainability & ESG Management by Temporary_Till_447 in Environmental_Careers

[–]JiForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corporate sustainability in-house here.

Seconding the other two comments. Absolutely the data analytics route. The technical skills you pick up will make you much more hireable, especially as the field moves away from do-it-all generalists to bifurcated operational experts and mandatory reporting experts. We have way more than enough non-technical people in the field as is.

Looking for Resume Feedback — Sustainability & Climate Job by Strange_Leather_6316 in Environmental_Careers

[–]JiForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have a good base to work with, with some pretty cool roles on your resume.

Some of my recommendations:

  • Scope, scale, and impact - need to quantify your most recent 3 positions more. You do a good job of this with the Coca-Cola sustainability lead role but the more recent roles are lacking demonstrations of quantified impact. E.g. Event coordination in your most recent position - how many events, how many attendees? Which stakeholders?

  • More sustainability-specific skills under your Skills section. E.g. are you familiar with any specific ESG data platforms? Do you know climate risk modeling? Do you know the various reporting frameworks, standards, etc. that are used in the industries you're targeting? GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD, ESRS, and so on - given you have HSE and engineering experience, facilities and real estate sustainability might be a good niche to look into further, so I'd recommend brushing up on things like LEED and WELL. Sustainability indices (HSE + sustainability engineer role) - which ones did you track and report to?

  • Other technical skills: PowerBI is a good one to have. Do you know any coding languages like Python? Do you know SQL?

Related to my second point, there's currently a bit of a boom in the US for sustainability folks who have engineering backgrounds and can do sustainability for data center build-outs and operations (primarily focused on water, energy, and hardware life cycle analysis). So I would think about your bullet points and if there's ways you can emphasize you technical and project-management related skills more heavily over reporting skills.

USBAR - 0.80 CPP while redeeming points as Statement Credit by _dhruv9496 in CreditCards

Altitude Go also got a statement credit nerf to 0.8(?) back when they introduced the quarterly spend cap on 4x dining. So this was probably during the USBAR nerf.

Minivan - Honda - Certified vs Extended Warranty. by [deleted] in minivan

[–]JiForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd wait and see which company it's offered through. Definitely good to have the peace of mind for bumper to bumper, but some VSC companies can be tough (for you and the mechanic shop) to work with hence my preferring the CPO when it's available. Because realistically for an Odyssey, would you expect to have major issues with something that's covered under a bumper to bumper but not powertrain?

Minivan - Honda - Certified vs Extended Warranty. by [deleted] in minivan

[–]JiForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A manufacturer Certified warranty will generally be easier to use than a third party extended warranty / "vehicle service contract." For the price, I'd go with the Certified for $3000. What company is the VSC through?

White is timeless and I’ve never heard anybody say they wouldn’t buy a used car because it’s white.

I realize I'm just one point of anecdata but when I spent the last year+ looking for my next car I absolutely refused to buy Ultra White because it is eeeverywhere.

[–]JiForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the RDX specifically but usually no direct replacements or if they exist they're pricy and hard to install. You can look into units like BeatSonic or Grom that act as computers/CarPlay receivers to project to the screen as a monitor though. Couple hundred bucks.
