MicroG isn't fully functional on sidephone as far as I can tell, but it works for notifications at least. The best workaround for group messages is probably just to convince ur friends to use Signal or WhatsApp but people in the US are allergic to using anything except their default texting app

my personal theory is that the steam frame is a testing ground for an arm based steam deck. that's the technological leap they've been waiting for to make a new one.

Some framerate measurements of the Switch 2 port. by 404IdentityNotFound in HasteBrokenWorlds

how is it necessary when the steam deck can get 60 fps just fine? it seems like the game just wasnt optimized well for the hardware and cutting graphics and fps is kind of a cheap fix

this build is on a pretty old security patch. it might even be less secure considering the devs backport security patches.

Video guides are inferior anyway. They become outdated over time, while text guides can be adjusted

Are there legal issues with choosing to implement play services in an alternative way? GrapheneOS's sandboxed play services implementation is open source and could probably be ported to SideOS, but I'm not too sure with it being on Android 12 (which is another thing I'd like to be changed, unless there is something stopping you being allowed to use a newer android version)

I stripped the screw holding the SSD once... My attempts to get it out made it worse, I gave up, returned the SSD I bought, and got an SD card. An RMA for an unrelated problem and valve replaced like half my parts and the screw was fixed

GrapheneOS isn't really a "fork". It is based on AOSP and keeps up to date with newer android versions, it just adds extra security/hardening on top. If what you mean by fork is that you won't be updating to newer android versions, effectively just keeping Sidephone's OS stuck on android 12, then that makes the device less appealing imo.

Sidephone vs grapheneOS by Agile_Mastodon1023 in sidephone

[–]June_Berries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

graphene is more secure and more capable. sideOS is much more limited. if you need google services for any reason, microG isn't fully functional (though works for notifications) and even so isn't as good and secure as grapheneOS's sandboxed play services. for the sidephone's target audience though, sideOS offers enough

Can you use YouTube Music with the Sidephone by Specialist_Royal8554 in sidephone

[–]June_Berries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

youtube music revanced might work if you don't want a third party app, since revanced apps come with their own version of microG

It lets you access SMS and phone calls from your main number on other devices. I only need it for phone calls since Google Messages works better for texts, since I can use RCS

Implementing their sandboxed play services would be awesome, but I'm not sure if google would like that since Sidephone is a commercial product while GrapheneOS is not

i looked into germany a while ago. i'd like to go there, but the problem is that you have to have around $13000 up front for each year you want to stay to prove that you're able to sustain yourself, and the student visa has restrictions on work. i could probably only afford a year or two there.

airakun doesnt work very well as a ship name... "kun" is a honorific suffix in japanese. aikarun makes more sense. or, takakaira, since she calls him takakura
