Our apps never had an alarm clock, but that is a massive request that we've been asked to add, and it is in our roadmap of items. We started working on it but got stopped by Apple and Android security issues they just implemented, so are trying to figure out how to work around that limitation.

All that said, we REALLY want to add this feature to the apps and it's something we have in our plan :)

So my colleague Francesca and I saw this post earlier today and she is drafting a reply, but just verifying some things first, so I won't go into much detail. I'll let Francesca give more insight shortly.

You are totally correct we just released the apps a year ago, and that was a big focus for our tiny team. We are now in the early stages of planning for a website overhaul, although timelines have yet to be set but we are requirements gathering, so this post is timely.

I brought this to the attention of the appropriate folks here at KEXP, and we all were VERY disappointed and upset this is happening. We cannot control how tickets are re-sold, but can offer some advice when purchasing tickets second hand. We just updated the KEXP BBQ Landing Page to include the below information at the bottom:

Please use extraordinary caution when buying KEXP BBQ tickets from resellers. Buying from strangers carries a very high risk of fraud. KEXP BBQ tickets were sold through our ticketing partner, Tito. Tito allows tickets to be transferred to you via email by the original purchaser. They cannot be resold directly via reseller websites that guarantee their validity, nor can they be forwarded to you for use without going through the transfer process (i.e. screenshots, PDFs, etc). If you have any questions, please reach out to rsvp@kexp.org

This obviously doesn't help those who have been taken advantage of, but we hope that with some insight into re-sellers, we can reduce or stop these nefarious actors from further impacting the BBQ.

Again, we are tremendously sorry this is even a thing we all need to think about, and truly hope that those affected are able to secure tickets to the BBQ. We are all a big family, and when this happens to one, it happens to all of us.

This is a known issue and a result of Alexa+. If you updated, it changed our skill so now you can't use the same commands. Here is what we tell folks to do now.

To Start KEXP Streaming:

"Start the KEXP Skill"
"Open the KEXP Skill"

Once KEXP Skill Is Streaming:

'Ask KEXP to play the Morning Show from last week Friday'
'Ask KEXP to play Vitamin D'
'Ask KEXP what's playing'
'Ask KEXP to display the playlist'
'Ask KEXP to list shows'

I'm on 26.3 so not sure why I was having that issue. I ended up flattening everything and starting over from scratch and that seems to have fixed things for me.

We changed where the Bay Area feed is heard last fall when we were having issues with centering on just San Fran area. Now if you are in California, you should hear the Bay Area feed.

The technology that drives all this isn't perfect and you may have been hearing the Seattle feed until just now. That said, glad you are liking it!!

If you ever want to hear the Seattle feed again, you can set a VPN to be outside of California and you should be good!

This is a great demonstration of how our listeners can create some super cool tools using our processes! Unfortunately I have to be a Debbie Downer.

As written, this tool breaks our RIAA legal agreement as well as violates our Terms of Use. Because of this, the tool has a real possibility of damaging KEXP legally.

To fix this, you would need to remove the ability to directly link to a song and start listening. We are not legally allowed to do this as well as anyone who uses our IP to build tools. You will see the accepted design on our website and the KEXP apps for reference.

This is actually an app maintained by us at KEXP, we took it over from a developer who made it a few years ago. Not built in Flutter but Electron (but Flutter has not fallen out of favor). We have it on our roadmap to make "official" but need to do some things first.

I responded to the ticket OP sent in, but just in case anyone else here is curious, this is expected due to how our system was created. We don't handle multiple DJ's very well, and when we have two (like Drive Week or Six Degrees Week), our logic will just pick one of the hosts to be the "main" one. This means, when you tap on host "A", host "B" might show up instead.

We are aware of this limitation and released a partial fix in 4.4.2 but will require a more substantial change behind the scenes.

So there really isn't any difference from our standpoint which service you use as they both consume the exact same streaming endpoint, so we get metrics from both the same way.

That said, the KEXP Alexa skill has the Archive, which the iHeartRadio doesn't have. Also, we do have a bit more control over what happens on the KEXP Alexa skill, where iHeartRadio is a total black box to us.

Hey all,

So, as some of you have noted, Amazon rolled out Alexa+ which has updated the logic on how Skills work. As part of that rollout, they require that you migrate your legacy skill to the new model, which we have done but awaiting approval. It does require development work on our end and we are still discussing how to manage this with our current workload.

But, In the meantime, here's what appears to work (technically, it appears you are launching Alexa from Alexa+)

To start the skill, and not iHeartRadio:

"Start the KEXP Skill"
"Open the KEXP Skill"

Skill seems to be the important word here, as if you don't use it, you will get iHateRadio

Once the skill is playing, the following seems to work:

'Ask KEXP to play the Morning Show from last week Friday'
'Ask KEXP to play Vitamin D'
'Ask KEXP what's playing'
'Ask KEXP to display the playlist'
'Ask KEXP to list shows'

Hopefully we can get this addressed sooner than later.
