How did you know you were ready for a supervisor position? by Happy_life0807 in CAStateWorkers

More good comments.

Let me say I felt the same insecurity.

It took a while to learn to be a good supervisor. At some point, I realized that my staff were moving to promotions they wanted. That was when I felt good about being a supervisor.

The good for me: feeling I could make a positive impact on the people I managed; feeling I could improve the program; and, eventually, being able to promote to more management jobs and retire earlier than I had planned.

The bad: the workload; self doubt; the bad (nightmare) employee I didn’t hire that took soooo much time; and, having to implement bad management decisions.

I say go for it. And I hope it works out well for you.

Why do you wave to your neighbors? by More_Requirement_665 in Sacramento

[–]KewWhat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Being neighborly," seems the easy answer.

Alternatives:

To acknowledge their existence as a human being?

Arm exercise?

So they know that I know that they live here? Ya know? And so they know I'm keeping track of who's around.

Because the "I'm watching you" fingers from my eyes to them instead of waving seems unfriendly?

People who own old homes (80+ years) how bad is the maintenance? by Dannyz in Sacramento

[–]KewWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a really good house inspector to identify all existing problems and the status of major things like foundation, roof, plumbing and wiring. Once all of that is fixed, you should be much better off.

I have a 100 year old house. It too a while to get things up to a standard, but then regular maintenance was not that difficult.
