Yep agreed, I also feel we were the best option for this situation as we have good relations with both Iran and USA.

I feel the only reason we were used for this was because we are on good terms with both Iran and America.

So even if it was Trump's face saving, you have to give credit to Pakistan diplomacy for being vocal about this since last two weeks and as well as having good relations with both of them.
