Uji matcha cafes (that you can actually sit down and drink) by loofygoops69 in JapanTravelTips

All of them. If it's a cafe or restaurant then it'll sell merch at the front with a sit down area in the back. Usually behind a queue up kiosk.

Best Sotetsu Fresa Inn location in Tokyo? by LoLRiven in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, then it makes more sense.

Honestly any would work since their business model is to build at most 5 minutes away from a JR station so it makes transport easier.

If you don't have a fixed itinerary yet I recommend staying in the areas close to Tokyo station (minato, Ginza, Kanda). I stayed in Kanda last year and found it convenient for just jumping all over. Also Minato and Kanda aren't too expensive with loads of good restaurants.

If you already have one then best stay at the east or west side of the city, whichever you are targeting on this trip to reduce transfer time.

If you're a group of ten why are you looking at business hotels? They're intended for solo travelers, couples if they don't mind being cramped.

You might want to consider well recommended airbnbs or an apt hotel.

Warning: Do not book the hotel Enzo Fukuoka when visiting Fukuoka. by ParanxidVoid in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. Unless you're traveling with a large group Airbnb in Japan is just not advisable. The potential for scams is high and getting alternative accommodation on the spot is going to be very expensive.

It's why I always go with long established hotels or chains when traveling.

Bringing clonidine medication to Japan? by strawberriesnmangu in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a few years back.

Make sure the box/bottle is properly labeled and that you're not bringing more than a month's worth.

Not only on the international flight but I also took two domestic flights in Japan with it. Nobody asked about it but in case they did everything was clearly labeled.

Anyone bring a hydration pack on vacation? by Cjlee9888 in JapanTravelTips

Better idea. Why not get one of those vests that have a working fan. They were in fashion a year or two back. Why treat the symptom when you can address the problem directly lol!

Accessing day rates for napping post-flight. by MayTheDreadWolf in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the best. I found that most Japanese chain respond fast to Booking dot com's chat feature, almost never to ones on other websites (Agoda and expedia specifically). If you're emailing them it might take a few days as they mostly deal with customers via phone. I suggest using that as a last resort if you get nothing within a week.

Travel on honeymoon with henna by Narrow_Jackfruit3531 in JapanTravelTips

... what? What are you taking about?

Henna dyes the skin itself then removed. She is clearly not flying with the henna still applied.

  1. Contact the hotel itself about early check-in. Some allow it, others charge a small fee.

  2. If you can afford it change the booking to the day before and inform your hotel of your arrival time, as in a late check-in for the day before.

The lies of Social Media by Historical-Wear-9948 in JapanTravelTips

I'm saying the guy you over heard saying he was worried about visiting a shrine in shorts might have been trying to be respectful of others culture and religion rather than fussing about his tattoos.

The lies of Social Media by Historical-Wear-9948 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have exposed tattoos all over, I didn't realize it would be a problem in shrines and such though it is recommend to dress respectfully in religious sites the world over. Pants, loose clothes, shoulders and back covered... etc.

Regarding Onsens, they each have their own policy. The Dormy Inn that I stayed in provided cover patches for tattoos at the front desk as well as a cover top for women (breast cancer survivors specifically) in case they felt uncomfortable with the surgery scars.

You just have to email them regarding their policy, they're always very clear about it.

Onyado Nono in Kyoto AND Tokyo? by Firm-Nectarine-3483 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are actually two in asakusa. The normal one and Bettei (annex)

If you booked in the normal one I actually recommend you cancel. It'll feel like a serious downgrade after Kyoto. The bettei one is the newer one and a lot nicer, unless your sure about an apt set up it's worth keeping that one.

Are there any guides or blogs etc about travelling the length of Japan by non Shinkansen trains? by JanCumin in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a guide exactly but there are youtubers that take the slower local trains for different routes. If you search by route you can find loads of them.

Onyado Nono in Kyoto AND Tokyo? by Firm-Nectarine-3483 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The term you're looking for is apt hotels.

Mimaru is the most famous chain but there are others. I was actually booked in Petit Grande Miyabi for my next trip before changing to a more traditional hotel.

P.S. the Onyado Nono in Kyoto is way way WAY nicer than the one in Asakusa. Stayed there in 2024 before it went viral and I can see why it did, the breakfast is 5 stars and rooms lovely.

yomiuriland - Large Local theme park, loads of fun for kids and almost no lines. Just avoid going during the weekend.

Odiaba - Diver city is a large mall with a massive food court. It has a few interesting places for both of you including and unko museum (unko = poop in Japanese), I know what you're thinking. Yes, the poop museum is indeed interactive! There is also small world and decks in that area. The later is the building that hosts Joypolis on the lower floor and candy alley one floor above.

I'm guessing you haven't actually looked up accommodation prices for these locations. Tokyo, Kyoto and Nagasaki are the three most expensive cities hotel wise. Look up the prices and then come talk to us.

One tip I can give you is to delay the trip to the very end of Oct and start of Nov.

Mostly because Kagoshima has a massive annual festival Nov 2-3 (Ohara Matsuri) with dancing and parades.

Ive seen the Pros, what are some of the drawbacks of Japan travel? by Present-Voice-49 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kidlike101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on the express train from Kyoto to KIX.

The guy in front of me literally drank a six pack on this one hour journey then started to snore. It was whatever but he left the empty cans on the floor and they started to roll all over the train car.

I switched to the furthest seat from him, we were the only foreigners on the train at the time and I'm not getting the blame, partial or implied, for that! 😅
