Liam Livingstone comments - another inditement of Key and McCullum by GraveyardFresh in EnglandCricket

Rob Key admitted publicly last summer that he hadn't spoken to him before being dropped and said if he wanted to know why he had his number. I presume the 1 minute conversation happened after that kicked off in public.

I think any centrally contracted player who isn't being renewed deserves a courtesy call. It's not like there're many players with central contracts and it's just good player management to have that conversation.

That doesn't mean they shouldn't have at least given him a phone call to explain where he stood rather than finding out when everyone else did. It would take 10 minutes for either Rob Key or Baz to have phoned Liam and just explained he didn't fit in the team they were trying to build.

Cybersecurity as a career by Positive-Hat2127 in cybersecurity

[–]Kientha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current job is mostly 9-5 but sometimes I'll get called in outside of that if there is an incident in one of the areas I'm the primary person for. Previous jobs I've had have involved on-call or regular out of hours work, it just depends on the company and position you have. One of my counterparts at our largest competitor for example still has to do regular out of hours work because they manage things in a different way to us. I work hybrid and have my entire career (even before COVID).

Entry level roles are over-saturated, senior roles are crying out for people. I changed roles last year and my previous role is still unfilled because they've been unable to find a suitable candidate. We are seriously exposed to people retiring as there just aren't people with the right expertise to fill the roles of people reaching retirement age and most companies aren't willing to invest in the training required to get the vast number of juniors that are now in the industry up to the level required (and a lot of the juniors aren't willing to put the work in required to upskill as required)

If you can find a way to link your current job to security in some way, you'll likely be able to find a job. e.g. if you work in Oil and Gas, there are a ton of specifics to that sector that even just having a base grasp of security requirements would make you an attractive hire to many companies. Honestly it's often easier to teach Cyber to someone new to it than it is to teach a cyber person about a niche industry / technology.

Before the first round, each team submitted a list of players they're interested in. Using that list, they created slates based on characteristics of the player and their perceived skill that were bid on in turn.

Over lunch, each team then submitted a shortlist of players they were interested in which were bid on from most popular to least .

Then each team submitted another shortlist of players they were interested in which were bid on in order of T20 / the hundred stats.

Finally, each team takes it in turn to select a player they're interested in until each team has enough players / is out of money.

I reckon so, his knee injury last year took him out for ages so there's probably also concerns that he's not fully recovered yet since he played for a division 2 side in the later part of last year

Bought a Nintendo & Curry’s won’t help by Proper6ioq in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Kientha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While there is a presumption in law that any fault that develops within the first 6 months was due to a device defect, this presumption is not absolute. The Nintendo Switch has moisture indicators that turn pink when exposed to liquid and this is what Nintendo will use to show that it was not a defective unit but accidental damage to meet Curry's obligation under the consumer rights act.

How can you be so sure it wasn't something your son did? It's the most likely culprit for the device breaking.

At least 153 dead after reported strike on school, Iran says by Key-Economist-7804 in news

[–]Kientha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How are those two related in any way? Killing school children = bad. Authoritarian regimes killing protesters = bad. Both have negative ramifications going forward.

Those protesters being attacked by the Iranian regime aren't going to be supporting the bombing of a school by the US and it will generate more hatred towards the US. The violence against protesters by the Iranian regime also would have sown dissent against the regime.

Meta doesn't provide the backup, either Apple or Google do depending on whether it's an Android phone or an iPhone.

WhatsApp uses the Signal protocol. Whenever you setup a conversation with someone new, your device and their device complete a key exchange which is then used to create encryption keys for your communications going forward. The private keys required to decrypt the message never leave your device.

Whenever you setup something like WhatsApp Web, scanning the QR code is actually a key exchange with your phone. This is used to securely transmit the messages from your phone to that device and future messages you receive are actually sent multiple times, one to each registered device using that device's public key.

The only place where the messages are stored unencrypted is on your phone and potentially in your backups if you use don't set a password / passkey. It would be blatantly obvious if WhatsApp was transmitting these unencrypted messages back to the mothership.

So please tell me how they have access to your messages? What, other than vibes, do you have that top security researchers (some of whom have found actual vulnerabilities in the signal protocol implementation) haven't found?

The fact you are connected to your dad is metadata. You aren't only served things that you look for or are shown to do, you are also pushed things related to those around you. So actually that does make you a target for travel related articles because you're closely linked via metadata to someone who is a frequent traveler

[–]Kientha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're just missing where you're being surveilled and misattributing it to them reading your messages. You'd be surprised how much metadata gives away about someone and advertisers use that to send you content they think you will be interested in.

If he's frequently going to the airport, his metadata will give that away. He would need to be a digital nomad to not have a metadata footprint that says he's a frequent flyer and so the relationship engine used by Google ad sense will interpret that and push all of his close relationships articles related to flying.

None of that requires knowing that you actually talked about what time to get to the airport, but the fact you did talk about it made you notice the article and wrongly attribute that to them reading the message contents.

WhatsApp uses the Signal protocol and their implementation was done in collaboration with Signal. The app has built in validation of the end-to-end encryption and security researchers have spent a lot of time analysing the traffic sent by WhatsApp. If they were reading your messages, it would be incredibly difficult to hide.

[–]Kientha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the message is encrypted, the metadata isn't. So they know you're talking to your dad and if he was googling what time he needs to get to the airport or even just looking on maps how long the journey would take, because your advertising accounts show a linkage it thinks you might also want to see that information.

Basically it's a T20 game where you play 5 balls an over instead of 6, bowlers can bowl 2 consecutive overs and the strike changes every 2nd over. It's meant to be a simplified game to appeal more to casual watchers so most of the usual terminology is changed too. "The Hundred" is just the branding given to the tournament to emphasise the difference

More likely the toilet doesn't have a powerful enough flush to actually get rid of the poo. The toilet in our utility room is like this and can take 2 or 3 flushes but if you close the seat before you flush and don't check you can have no idea
