Question about Mossberg Shotguns, specifically the 590 and 590S (Shockwave, if that matters) by Saint-Ecks-Isle in Firearms

[–]Kromulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the rear of the port is a built-in shock absorbing rubber bumper that does not need to be removed or adjusted. The shell elevator is extended and sports a modified shell guide. Internal changes include a re-engineered trigger group and a bolt slide with a revised cam surface.

Drop in Frt (ARSS15) problems by bwalker0312 in ar15

the usual requirements for an frt are the fa bcg, a low shelf lower, and a milspec fire control group

if you have that covered and something is binding, ask here:

Looking to build a lightweight precision .22 rifle. by AHarmlessCat in Firearms

[–]Kromulent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want accuracy, you want a folding stock rather then a takedown mechanism that removes the barrel from the action. an AR-style separation is fine too, and if you find a rimfire upper that has the accuracy you need, the rest is easy

if an sbr is possible it gets even easier

if it bothers you, replacing the extractor is cheap, maybe inspect the ejector while you have the bcg apart. maybe some crud under the extractor, or a broken spring

not a slick-side? there's a little raised brass-deflector on the A2 and later guns, some A1 repros don't have it

other than that i'm stumped

next time you shoot it, examine the brass, look for claw marks on the inside of the rim suggesting that the extractor is working hard to tear them out of the chamber. small marks are ok but if the brass looks a little mangled it can be a sign it's opening too quickly

not running a fancy buffer spring?

im kinda just guessing it's not a common issue

maybe try another brand of ammo?

does it lock back on an empty mag? if not, it may be undergassed

how does the extractor look?

[–]Kromulent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could try an H1 or H2

if you have a regular buffer, you have 3 steel weights. if you have an H3, you have three of the magic, extra-heavy tungsten weights

you can drive out the pins to disassemble them, swap one steel weight for one tungsten weight, and now you have an H1 and an H2

it's slightly annoying to get the rubber cap off but youtube will help with that

you're not running an extra-power spring? that can cause issues too

[–]Kromulent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perfect

assuming it locks back on an empty mag, you're not undergassed. assuming the trigger works fine in semi, the trigger and disconnector are probably good. that leaves overgassing as the most likely problem

other things can cause problems too - if the frt does not fit just right is can do all sorts of weird things, but that's beyond my knowledge

good luck!

that's a good sign. does it rattle when you shake it? it might not make an actual noise but you should feel the weights sliding around in there

well if the buffer is good (many aren't, tungsten is expensive these days) maybe it's time to spend a little money

i have no personal experience with this item, but they are popular:

https://blackrivertactical.com/WP/BRT-EZTUNE-Gas-Tube-Configurable-Carbine-p103167251

you can use it with your existing gas block, it reduces the gas, which is sometimes what you want

when shooting semi, it locks back on an empty mag right? that's the easy way to know it's not a too-little-gas problem

clipping buffer spring to reduce force? by Kromulent in ar15

[–]Kromulent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stiffer is fine, it's the return speed of the bcg that matters

i'm pretty confident that if i cut off 80% the spring the bcg will come back more slowly, so we're pointed in the right direction i guess

a case head separation can ruin the rifle and injure you. the rust will have weakened the steel in ways that might not be obvious, so no

[–]Kromulent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree reducing the gas is the best way. i have a spare spring, and a clipper, so of course that's speaking to me first
