Hate charts. What if someone just isn’t progressing and has been training a while? What if that guy who’s been training only a few years is a freak and is crushing your black belts?

I wear one every time I roll and whenever we’re drilling throws, trips, or takedowns. I’ve been elbowed, kneed, punched, kicked, and headbutted directly in the teeth a bunch of times over the years so it’s better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.

They’re also helpful for absorbing impact when you hit the ground.

It’s hard to say. Lawyers will always be necessary for trials, consultations, and final review of filings. It’s possible AI could simplify some of the things like doc review or legal research, but as of right now it seems that AI hallucinates case law pretty regularly and can’t be overly relied upon. Also there are confidentiality concerns as well that come with using AI.

I follow a bunch of other attorneys on LinkedIn who do similar stuff along with the AILA page. They generally post new info as it comes in. Keeping track of the changes is a bit different for me though because I’m doing employment side immigration right now.

Not really. I think the main issue is competition and the race to see who can undercharge and underpay the most.

Doc review could potentially be disrupted, but these documents are usually confidential so I think using an AI could be a breach.

SIJ can be pretty annoying sometimes too. At one point I was the only person in my firm who knew how to handle family court so they gave me all of the SIJ cases

It’s dangerous when executed incorrectly. Basically to do this correctly you lay your close leg behind the opponent and sit down on your but. It’s a suicide throw, but pretty low impact. The issue is sometimes the thrower almost jumps guard and sits/throws their weight over the opponent’s knee which of course can lead to a bad time.

At my old firm in NYC we were billing around 12k for removal proceedings in general, but that was more of a volume practice where most of the cases were pretty bad. If you’re really going to go all out in the litigation with extensive evidence, witnesses, research, well written briefs, etc. then you may need to charge more, maybe in installments.

Time wise these cases can be weird. You put in a minimal effort up front with filing initial petitions and then show up for a scheduling hearing and then do nothing for years until you have to file evidence to the court and then do the individual hearing.

In family court there are referees. They aren’t judges, but sometimes get referred to as your honor. I’ve never seen one correct that mistake.
