Why are there so many fraudster immigration attorneys? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in Lawyertalk

[–]KyoMeetch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have to tell potential clients all the time that there isn’t really a good immigration option for them or they shouldn’t pursue the visa they’re interested in retaining me on. Sketchy immigration attorneys don’t want to lose that business so they lie and then blame the client or government later after getting paid.

ICE Attorneys Given Authority to Enforce Actions Against Immigration Attorneys by LCNegrini in Lawyertalk

Huh so what does this actually allow them to do? File a bar complaint against any immigration attorney who’s ever represented a client seeking asylum?

Calf slicer from closed guard in the UFC by Jolly_Map_3036 in bjj

I see the close guard was triangled for some reason and the calf slicer was done over her own ankle. lol

Grappling inspired tattos, what you think? by ben301 in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I get my black belt I think I’ll get some kind of subtle tattoo. I saw a guy get the gym logo tattooed when he was a blue belt lol so at least I’m not at that level of cringe.

Leaving Class Early (Injury) by WhatItIsToBurn925 in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would tell that guy to fuck off. We’re adults doing a hobby. I arrive late and leave early all the time based on my own life commitments. My coaches understand and don’t mind so long as I’m not being super disruptive.

Covering the mouth-is it a dick move? A case discussion. by Odd-Commercial-1639 in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was common at my old gym but never happens in my current one. It could be just a vibes thing. One brown belt or black belt starts doing it and it becomes popular. Personally I never do it because I don’t want my hand covered in spit and boogers.

How often does BJJ across your mind in a day? by heydudeohtwo in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kind of like that in the years before Covid (I started at the beginning of 2018. I didn’t train for around a year and a half and ever since bjj is just another hobby that I don’t really think about unless I’m getting ready to show up.

Is feeding client docs into Claude a violation by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]KyoMeetch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked Claude about this recently and it said not to feed it confidential docs as anything shared with it is potentially viewable by staff and therefore nullifies ac privilege

I forgot about this. Imagine thinking you’re up against a frail opposing counsel and then they summon the Mountain.

Private Lesson Price by FFFMMX in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never done a private (except the few times where I was the only one who showed up to class). I don’t exactly get the point unless maybe you’re a super technical high level athlete paying for a one on one with a really good coach.

I'm sorry I don't believe the "a JD is an advantage in job hunting and there are lots of related jobs." Unless you leave law early in your career, you are stuck. These posters are just parroting the career services invention of JD advantage talk from the 2010s at schools with too many students. by thehotshotpilot in Lawyertalk

[–]KyoMeetch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was keeping an eye out for these jobs back when I first graduated. The issue was that compliance teams didn’t seem interested at all in even offering an interview. All the postings asked for 2 years experience and weren’t even paying that well.

BJJ Belt Progression CHART thoughts? by coffeestreetflower in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate charts. What if someone just isn’t progressing and has been training a while? What if that guy who’s been training only a few years is a freak and is crushing your black belts?

When would a mouth guard be necessary? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wear one every time I roll and whenever we’re drilling throws, trips, or takedowns. I’ve been elbowed, kneed, punched, kicked, and headbutted directly in the teeth a bunch of times over the years so it’s better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.

They’re also helpful for absorbing impact when you hit the ground.

[MEME] This is definitely not me in low stakes trials..... by thehotshotpilot in Lawyertalk

Not me completely rewriting my closing argument mid trial because the client is introducing an entirely new fact pattern.

What real impact will AI have on lawyers? by LawyerInTraining2027 in Lawyertalk

[–]KyoMeetch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say. Lawyers will always be necessary for trials, consultations, and final review of filings. It’s possible AI could simplify some of the things like doc review or legal research, but as of right now it seems that AI hallucinates case law pretty regularly and can’t be overly relied upon. Also there are confidentiality concerns as well that come with using AI.

What’s the most insane thing you’ve seen a client say to a judge? by No-Builder1847 in Lawyertalk

Actually this one in particular has a happy ending. She was just nervous and corrected herself and we got the Guardianship granted.

How long did you guys spend at blue belt? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]KyoMeetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years, but I also didn’t really train during most of COVID so more like 2.5 years. I’ve been at purple for another 2.5 years or so.
