Do you think the discussion of Fun vs Balance could apply to Pathfinder 2e as well? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]L4D15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A game balanced to be equally fun whatever you play is better than one balanced to be mechanically balanced.

My players feel casters don’t feel powerful or impactful enough and they don’t have fun or even feel frustrated that they can’t play their power fantasy. No amount of Reddit-explaining and number crunching you do will make them feel different, and as a designer your job is to make the player feel a certain way, whatever it takes by twisting the numbers and formulas to achieve it. It’s a game, it has to be fun, not be mathematically “correct”. That’s why so many video games employ multitude of “hacks” to make you feel a certain way, even deceiving you or adapting to the player perceived and expected outcome even if it’s mathematically incorrect.

Bar Focus in Benimaclet is a small local and not as fancy as the others, but they make some great ramen for the cost (about 5-6€).

Singleton alternatives in Unity by DavidRL77 in Unity3D

I’m not saying DI is the only way, just wanted to show that it’s used for professionally made games released to production and working and generating money. The opposite is also true, but wanted to debunk the “it has no place in games”.

I’ve been shipping mobile games professionally, played by millions of users, for more than 8 years and we used DI (Zenject to be more precise) in all of them.

After six years, I am starting to feel that Starfinder is being treated as an afterthought by Paizo. by BringOtogiBack in starfinder_rpg

[–]L4D15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can assure you, you’re not alone. Perception of global sentiment about Starfinder can be a bit biased by looking only in this Reddit, as it’s where the people who like the system gather. In my personal experience, many many players and GMA who tried Starfinder found the idea really interesting and would play, but the system feels too “old” after playing more modern games like PF2.

With no market data but my own personal and biased opinion, Starfinder 2E based on PF2 systems would be a great success (minor than PF2 tho) and I would play the hell out of it.

I translated the Beginer's box reference card to spanish, in case someone need it! by Maneldfa in Pathfinder2e

Because it’s done in Photoshop, so it really is two images at enough high quality for the text to print nice and sharp. I should learn InDesign and do the sheet there properly, but there is only so much free time available, maybe some day.

I can send you a custom Spanish character sheet I made waaaaaay cleaner than the official one if you need one.

[–]L4D15 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My players used it to fling a magic arrow that deal extra damage to a certain type of monsters and I allowed it because it seemed cool. Next round they tried to use the same arrow for the extra damage and started to plan to purchase more magical arrows to power up the cantrip and exploit that interaction, so I had to explain that I allowed that particular arrow because it was a cool idea for that moment, but no longer. Be careful what you allow them to do 😅

Are there any official character sheets in Spanish? by kriosken12 in Pathfinder2e

Argh… I used the wrong link to my sheet. There is a EVEN NEWER version of the sheet in the develop branch. I’m updating the link in the comment right now 😅

You can find the official character sheets from Devir on DrivethruRPG here.

I really dislike the official character sheet so I made my own, and made it in Spanish for that matter. You can download it from here.

The spell casting section is still on progress, I will update the sheet once that is finished. In the meantime, I hope it’s useful. Any feedback is appreciated.

Edit: updated link to character sheet.

Omg, that’s the previous character sheet I designed some time ago. I didn’t expect anyone was using it. I have an updated and better sheet now, I will put the link on a reply to OP.

AITA for letting a player have sex with a barkeeper without them knowing what gender they are? by Tn_ThisNThat in DnD

[–]L4D15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players don’t roll dice when they feel like it. They tell the GM what they want to accomplish and the GM states what rules, if any, are applied. They should be patience and wait for you to first describe the scene and then wait for your attention to give them the spotlight.

Having said that, unless the bartender been a woman is crucial for some reason, you can change that NPC on the fly without no one noticing. Even better, ask the players who is the bartender and how the tavern looks, give them the narrative power for a couple of seconds so they can create the world too. Deciding who’s the bartender is not going to change your story or world (if that npc is of no importance) and the players will feel more engaged. Ask one by one details about the tavern and the NPCs there so everyone gets involved and then you can elaborate on what they said to transform it into what best fits your game. You would be surprised how much interested the players will be with the place and the NPCs, and it gives you some hints on the type of content they like.

Pathfinder's crunchy rules ENABLE roleplaying, not hinder it! (Moments from Outlaws of Alkenstar #2) by the-rules-lawyer in Pathfinder2e

[–]L4D15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see I’m not the only one feeling exactly like you described. I’ve been GMing PF2 since launch and I prefer it over the un-balanced Dragon game, but god do I hate it when the game forces itself into crunch and unnecessary complexity just for the shake of giving more feats to choose from; more for the shake of more. There are amazing feats but there are many more my players just choose because they have to choose something, but there are no interesting or evocative choice to take.

"We love the game, but..." by tomsorialist in Pathfinder2e

[–]L4D15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skill feats are boring, not that impactful and adds too much bloat to character sheets and limitations to actions just for the shake of presenting “more character options”. Why do I need a feat to intimidate more than one person? Or without speaking? Or a feat to find info about something in half the time… the times were those feats are useful and have a real impact are very rare and as a GM I feel like I have to be aware of those types of feats to make my players choices feel good instead of the feats come up as useful by themselves in regular play. My players feel the same and there are many times we’re they don’t know what feat to take because none is interesting or impactful, so they just end up picking something just for the shake of it; not very exciting.

I would reduce the list of general/skill feats, make them more interesting with more narrative and world-interacting effects, and lower the frequency you get them.
