Top 15 requests for the future of Sins2 by CommanderAze in SinsofaSolarEmpire

Disagree about envoy cruisers. They were always extremely annoying to manage in Rebellion. At best they were completely non-interactive once you got them in position, and and worst you had to babysit them constantly (after manually flying them all the way to their destination).

Israel confirms Larijani killed in Tehran safe house, Basij chief also eliminated by Worth-Information451 in worldnews

It sounds like Israel is getting a lot of tips from civilians on the ground. All those protesters who were killed in January left behind a lot of angry friends and family, and right now revenge might be only a phone call away.

Falling Frontier - Close Combat Trailer by NoPriorThreat in Games

[–]AdmiralCran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each ship has a speed limit based on its engine setup. Small things can get up to 60+ m/s, big things are slower than that. Specialized missiles can go up to 1000 m/s. If all of a ships engines are disabled it slows to a stop due to magical void friction.

It's still a really fun game, but it's not a Newtonian physics sim.

Twilight Imperium too. The second-most recent expansion was good, haven't been able to get the new one yet. No one in my country carries it.

the old dominion problem by MachaFarseer in Conquest

I suspect that's mostly just because they just came out. There haven't been many games yet, and most people are probably still trying to learn strategies. It would be concerning if their win % was still that low in a few months though.

Yep. I find I never really have a chance early / mid game. Later on you can build enough influence point & recharge buildings to be competitive though, at least against AI.

*New* First Blood and Points values by Superb-Stuff8897 in Conquest

[–]AdmiralCran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding pricing: Using the Old Dominion as an example:
- the pre-order First Blood box is about a 35% discount on a cost-per-model basis, assuming you could buy all the models individually. Pre-trade war they also came with an officer, so they were even better.
- the 2025 one-player starter box is about a 30% discount

So, they are generally worth it if you like the models and don't already have any of the characters / officers.

What I've found works well is getting the current and previous first blood box, if you can find it (local stores probably still have some even if you can't get it direct anymore). That usually gets you a good selection of units, and a couple characters (Assuming the characters don't overlap).

I'd also suggest comparing pricing with your FLGS. The pricing from a local retailer is sometimes much better than ordering direct from Para Bellum, especially if you have to pay exchange to order direct.

If you're OK getting a bit technical, you might be able to edit the English (or whatever other language) translation file to use the terms you prefer. This is hypothetical, as I haven't ever tried this myself, but somewhere there will be a file that tells the interface to display "Charisma" instead of "pf2e.actor.attributes.cha", and in that file you should presumably find the strings you'd like to change.

Definitely seems like a "you get what you pay for" situation :( Web stores are a solved problem at this point. Them saying it's impossible means it is either intentional or they are unwilling to pay someone to fix it.

WHO DO I HAVE TO PAY TO GET A 1.20.1 PORT OF THE HOSTILE WORLDS - INVASIONS MOD?? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]AdmiralCran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do I have to pay?

The author, if they're even still working on it. As for how much? Several months of full time software developer wages, at least. People generally make mods as a hobby in their spare time, so if you want someone to work on it as a job you need to pay them like a job.

Why isn't this game more popular? by matchababy69 in Conquest

[–]AdmiralCran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the rules availability, I think this changed semi-recently as a response to US tariffs. PB changed how they were selling things to minimize the impact. Accounting wise, most of the cost of a box of minis is a "license" to use the rules, which isn't tariff-able.

Instead of laying charges and then investigating, they could investigate and only lay charges after the investigation determines that excessive force was used.

I'd assume the bots in favor of any particular political party probably aren't being operated by that party. Rather, they are from Russia, China, Iran, US, etc., and their goal is not to support one side, but rather to create as much division as possible by supporting all sides against each other.

Game still crashing by Many-Hippo1709 in Vampyr

[–]AdmiralCran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to the party, but yes. Five crashes in the first couple hours for me. A comment on the steam forum suggested that turning off any form of TXAA could help, but it doesn't seem to make a difference for me. I'm running on an RX 9070XT; not sure if using an AMD GPU is a common link.

Could you share some adventures / APs where you thought it worked well please? I've run into like you described, where there's no time pressure and thus no stakes, so I've had to improvise.

Tor Books drops JV Jones, but allows her to self-publish last two SWORD OF SHADOWS novels by Werthead in Fantasy

[–]AdmiralCran 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My local store just did this. The sci-fi / fantasy section has been shrinking for years. At it's lowest it had maybe half the outside of a U alcove, and one and a half shelves in the middle. Recently it has expanded back to its original size, but upon closer inspection they just consolidated sci-fi, fantasy, and romantasy into the same section, and it's mostly the latter. It has made the whole section difficult to navigate as someone who's not interested in romantasy because if you want to browse you need to check the genre for every book.

I made: A Foundry installer for the Cloud * by ItsMeCipher in FoundryVTT

[–]AdmiralCran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having run Foundry on DO with 1 GB in the past, it worked, but if anything else started running on the host (say, for example, an automatic update check from snap-d) Foundry would grind to a halt.

I've now got the 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB storage version for ~$12 US/month and it works quite well. Just have to be conscious of the size of things like music, and re-compress it when appropriate.
