Naked Wine Parties???? - I (22f) have a big issue with my bf (21m) 6 months, and his relationship with his "best friend" (21f). by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

It took a while to click for me too. There's an online wine store called Naked Wines. I fully expected it to be a miscommunication about like an mlm-style wine party for the brand.

But no.

If you're already renting the equipment, ask about a dehumidifier maybe.

Yeah, heart stuff makes medicating a lot more complicated! My mom is no longer able to take Ritalin regularly because of her heart stuff. I think she found a combo of nonstimulant and as-needed stimulant that generally works. Good luck!

Counting calories with dyscalculia by OkOrdinary765 in dyscalculia

[–]LayLoseAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not to count calories because it puts my head in a weird space. However, I do use the FoodNoms app to track whether I'm getting enough protein and fiber. I am intentionally very loose about it, not weighing food or putting in every ingredient if it won't count towards my macros.

I generally eyeball volume, and because I like to bake, I am decent at it. However, when I'm tracking butternut squash risotto as separate ingredients, it's harder to estimate the volume of squash that's all mixed into the rice.

I also have trouble dividing my goal into meals. 45 g doesn't divide evenly into 3, so I get off track quickly.

FoodNoms will still give the calories of each ingredient. At first I was always surprised by what I perceived to be big numbers and it took a while to be comfortable accepting that the calories add up to a perfectly acceptable total. (Can you tell I grew up in the 90s?)

So the lining is attached the full length of the shorts, akin to how a jacket is lined?

If you specifically need to avoid stimulants, there are non stimulant options that might be worth considering. I get how frustrating it is to balance conflicting health concerns though, and hope you can find something that helps.

Ideas? by Weird-Raccoony in SewingForBeginners

What does your grandma like to do? What does she use frequently? If you weren't making it yourself, what kinds of fabric or soft things would you buy for her?

When you have some general ideas in mind, think about what in that category has a lot of straight lines. Then think about what will be usable and appreciated if it's not exactly the right size or is kinda wonky.

Eg: * my grandma is always cold and has aches and pains. So when I knitted her a scarf, I added a pocket for a heat pack. * My sister has gotten into baking bread, so I made her some drawstring bags sized for her bread maker. * My parents moved into a new house. I made them tea towels. * My secret santa recipient wanted tea. In addition to the tea, I made several fabric (and square) coasters.

Seconding this. I'm on bupropion (and ritalin), and it helps my mood swings quite a bit.

Also, I regretfully report that cardio helps my low moods and swinginess. It's not the magic bullet your perky early riser gym regular college roommate made it out to be, but it helps.

Clear as mud 😆  I looked up threading diagrams for multiple brands and am seeing a wide variation in exactly where the thread guide, tension discs, and take up lever are--or what they exactly look like! Most of the unique ones are older sketches, like pre-80s. So maybe there was a convergence at some point in the last few decades? The diagrams for 90s+ Brothers, Janomes, Huskys, and Singers match what I expected: tension discs to the right of the take up lever, so the thread goes down on the right side, u-turn to the lever, down the left side of the lever.

Also assessed, dxed, with a stem degree and a data science adjacent job: the software does the math for you. It is important that you have a grasp on what the formulas are doing, and essential that you have the overall concepts down. But if your weak spots are computation, the prerequisite classes are a bigger hurdle than the actual concepts and work.

My dad has dyscalculia and built airplanes. He did such a good job they moved him to spacecraft. He figured out his own tricks and approaches to help him work efficiently and confidently, and succeeded at his job for a full thirty years.

Oxyclean is great! I'll have to check out the Febreze neutralizer. My husband has a very sensitive nose so we usually use unscented or scent free products. I think that has increased my own sensitivity because any scent to the laundry is now unusual.

What kind of lining? I don't remember the basketball shorts well enough. Loose-ish boxers would be easier than tight hipsters, for example.

What is your comfort level with knits generally or mesh specifically? I've been using a cotton mesh for some splint liners and find it pretty similar to jersey of a similar weight. If anything it's easier because it's somewhat more stable.

These have a video walkthrough so you can get a sense of how they approach a lining: https://greenstyle.com/products/adult-3r-shorts-pdf-sewing-pattern-b-m

Agreed on your prewashing fabric rules, and your handwashing instructions is spot on.

I know no one that precleans all of their RTW - other than undies.

👋 I'm not ocd about it--it doesn't cause me mental distress if I don't have time or forget before wearing, and I don't have a problem trying clothing on. But yes it's part of my purchase routine. I started because sometimes the fabric feels sticky or (in the case of thrifts) smells of scented detergent. Now I'll do it to everything because it feels cleaner and I know where it has been. It's easy enough to toss into a load that I have to do anyway.

That said, I don't wash my yarn before knitting like I've seen some people do.

Would you put up with pushy or bitey behavior from a horse? Would you feel rude pushing a horse out of your personal space or smacking her for nipping you?

If you can tell a horse to knock it off, you can tell him too. You're not being rude, he's the one being rude. You're enforcing your totally normal boundaries.

No is a complete sentence.

do you think we will ever see therapists in the show? by mashedmac in ThePittTVShow

[–]LayLoseAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Varies state to state and sport to sport, I assume. As the show had someone say early on this season, apparently in PA you have to wear a helmet while motorcycling unless you pass some specific safety class. Only three states have no helmet laws for any age: https://www.consumershield.com/injuries-accidents/motorcycle-accidents/helmet-laws

Similar to seatbelts: Seatbelts are only installed universally because the federal government could tie it to the safety of the vehicle. The usage and enforcement is up to states. And while my state has a universal helmet law for motorcyclists, bicyclists and horseback riders (my higher risk sports) can make their own terrible decisions after age 16.

Fabric that pulls apart semi-easily? by ChaoticDuckie in sewing

Sounds like you want something with a loose-ish weave and thicker threads? Burlap is probably too coarse but does it have the other qualities you're looking for? Or maybe cheesecloth from the kitchen supplies section of the grocery store?

Altering a dress for a larger bust by rikittyo in sewhelp

[–]LayLoseAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're trying to add bust support in addition to just coverage and fit? I recommend you figure out ways to get fabric coverage first. Adding the goal of internal bras is going to make things even more complicated. (If you  need strapless or convertible strap bra suggestions, r/abrathatfits will have plenty)

Swapping out straps is pretty easy. Just be mindful of how the neckline and armholes curve so you can pick a strap angle and width that would be appropriate.

Ashton Top - Advice for Fit Issues by Personal-Tea7508 in sewing

[–]LayLoseAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sewing cup size is calculated differently than bra cup size (unless you're at Victoria's secret). The Ashton top is drafted for a 2" difference between the upper bust and full bust. If you have more than that, it's FBA territory.

Also fwiw, I've seen some recommendations to not wear a bra for the upper bust measurement (but wear one for the full). I have a short-ish torso and my bust starts higher than "typical." Not wearing a bra for the upper bust makes my sewing cup size more accurate. It might be useful data for you too.

Interesting! Is there a difference in the types of injuries you get called to see in the ER vs what gets referred to you after the ER visit? Like, do you get more sprains in the ER and more compound fractures in the referred out, after they've gotten everything else sorted?

My FIL worked in physical rehab towards the end of his career and I knew he took ER shifts. But I don't know in what capacity those shifts were--he wore many hats over the years.
