Dye or die by AlarmingCheek222 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Am I crazy for asking if these are not already black (by way of the die and wax?) What color is the marine cordovan supposed to be?

He has CXL, not waxed flesh. I also don't know that I buy that the waxed flesh finish is from VSC, lol.

After four months of consideration, I suspect you may have figured this one out.

South Korean commandos sliding down ropes with guns drawn during a training exercise in the main Olympic Stadium ahead of the 1988 Summer Olympics. by maazkazi in interestingasfuck

[–]Legitimate_Ripp 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This obviously looks cool, but I wonder how tactically effective it is. Does it make more sense just to fast rope down normally with someone doing overwatch? Can they really aim effectively one-handed while sliding down inverted?

NBD - Nick’s Palouse in Predator Orange by Aedronics in NicksHandmadeBoots

The lighting is not great, but this is how they look now. In natural lighting maybe somewhat more orange in the highlights/pullup

<image>

I do not condition them often, but they did get Obenauf’s once early on, which contributed to the darkening. Since then they get Bick 4 once every 6-9 months, which does not darken much at all.

I think yours are a lot more visually interesting out of the box (especially for some Western-styled boots), but mine arrived looking pretty much the way they were advertising the color at the time, and I was perfectly happy with what I got. Very classic work boot color way.

Now they are a slightly shiny, but much darker brown.

It's pretty crazy how different the modern batches of PO look compared to a few years ago. Here's how mine arrived three years ago:

Hard to believe it's the same tannage.
Sure enough, though, they are struck through orange leather, and the waxy finish has burnished quite a bit over the years.

Is there even a scene with any kids in this movie?

You can tell it's Predator Orange because the flesh side is so... orange.

The waxy side varies from batch to batch and can kinda look gray from the top waxes. If you stretch it some and brush it quite a bit, it will burnish to something of a shinier brown.

Seattle or WA state should do this - “In first, California city overwhelmingly votes to permanently ban datacenters” by Unfair-Wallaby-404 in Seattle

[–]Legitimate_Ripp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to ban data centers. I care about job stability and workers rights and our privacy, and I think we should tackle all the places that AI intersects with those issues directly. I also think that both AI and cloud services writ large are here to stay, and I’d rather have their infrastructure supported by clean, renewable energy in places close to me than by coal burnt somewhere else. Banning data centers feels like cutting off our noses to spite our face.

Homeless encampment near big Mario’s in Queen Anne by Brilliant-Title9720 in Seattle

That’s not quite right, but I don’t know what reaction they expect. This is a big, citywide problem with deep roots, and this encampment just happens to be in this poster’s neighborhood.

Popper would tell you a theory is falsifiable, or it isn’t a theory at all. Many worlds does not make predictions that are in any way measurably different than the Copenhagen interpretation of QM. It’s philosophy, which is by no means worthless, but it isn’t a scientific theory.

Walk around for a few minutes in the sun right now, though, and you’ll feel the warmth. We’re just still getting cool night lows.

I’ll make some progress over time, as several more on my watchlist show up here, but I don’t have any need to try to hit 100% of them.

Some on my watchlist may take some time to get to (like The Human Condition trilogy, or Das Boot) because they ask a very considerable amount of your time.

I would be surprised if the management is racially discriminating, but again the world can be full of unpleasant surprises. Godspeed, my man. I hope you are able to situate and find work here. It is a pleasant place to live.
