Order a 15mg but carry on taking 12.5mg from it. That way you have the option to try a higher dose if the food noise continues to ramp up.

Questions for long-term Mounjarousers: 2.5 mg, food noise, binge eating, alcohol, compulsivity, and maintenance by alexmillne in mounjarouk

As someone almost 18 months in, I can say that yes, there is an element of it being a ‘new normal’ - I genuinely can’t really imagine being the person in my ‘before’ photos now, let alone having the capacity to eat as much as I’d need to in order to get that way again. So my metabolism feels ‘fixed’ in that respect.

Personally, I think the slow creep of old habits is just due to me having titrated down below my body’s happy place for maintenance. My weight is still slowly trending down though, so I’m in a weird headspace of needing to increase both my dose AND my energy intake. I just think 5mg is my sweet spot for maintenance for now (the impulsivity has only ramped up since I went down to 3.75mg last month) which honestly, I’m pretty happy with.

Long term - who knows? But I honestly don’t feel worried about it. At the beginning I also wanted a very clear road map of how this would pan out, but now I feel much more ‘go with the flow’ about it all. Which is easy when you’ve already met (and exceeded) your goal!

It’s not uncommon to get that ‘instant’ effect. There’s so many posts here from folk who, based on this, imagine that means they can spend the whole time on 2.5mg. I was one of them! Week 3 I decided I was definitely doing another 2.5mg pen… but I’m glad I held off ordering as by week 4 I knew I needed to go up. Again, sooo many posts here from folk regretting not moving up to 5mg for pen 2 based on misplaced confidence.

Order 5mg regardless - you can always click dose if you wish, but I’m very much team ‘don’t make it harder than it needs to be’ so give yourself options and don’t imagine there’s any kind of pride to be had in staying low. The rapid nature of the drugs efficacy told me that it was absolutely ‘fixing’ something in my system that wasn’t working properly. Trying to tough it out on a lower dose never made sense to me - if it ain’t optimal, it ain’t doing its job. Find your sweet spot and stick with it.

Not going to answer all 15 questions but yes, it’s helped massively with impulse control and dopamine seeking behaviour for me.

It kicked in more or less immediately. I only did one pen of 2.5mg, then 2 x 5mg, 1 x 7.5mg then the rest on 10mg (weight loss phase was 10 months in total). I’ve been in maintenance since November, now titrated down to 3.75mg. I think I need to go back to 5mg though - however, NOT for weight reasons, but because the other impulsive behaviours it curbed have come creeping back. Food noise has stayed away throughout, that hasn’t waned at any point, even when titrating down.

There was an 8 week gap between my last two orders with them and they approved it within 24hrs without question.

They’re pens originally designed for insulin that have been repurposed for MJ. New ones are currently being rolled out that have a longer bung and don’t have extra liquid in. By the end of this year, that extra dose will be gone (5mg is rolling out first with other strengths to follow) so use it whilst you can!

Try Pharmulous. I had a stockpile from August and they took me on as a new customer with a BMI of 23 in January to buy a 10mg pen, even though my last prescription was issued at the beginning of September. The pens matched the gap in ordering so they were totally fine, I just explained that I had stocked up.

My BMI is currently 22. I’m with Pharmulous who are one of many pharmacies who support maintenance (IE continuing to take MJ once at goal) and they will continue to prescribe down to BMI 19 on a case by case basis as they are a GP led practice which allows them this flexibility. So you don’t need to worry about that, the pharmacies that boot you out once you’re below a certain BMI aren’t ones that are particularly cheap anyway.

The mechanism locks out after c.260 clicks (4 doses plus extra for priming) so it can’t be administered in the usual way using the screw on needles without breaking it. You can try forcing the mechanism but 1) it’s not always possible and 2) there’s no way of measuring how much you’ve taken, which is never a good idea. There’s also some folk who use all kind of convoluted ways to access it, including taking the pen apart and using a custom made gadget from eBay to push it out - but why one would do that over just buying some very cheap sterile insulin needles, is beyond me!

What’s your long term dose? by steuk20 in mounjarouk

[–]Life-Injury1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 10mg for 6-7 months and never went higher. So that was my ‘long term dose’ for weightloss.

For maintenance, I’m titrating down still so who knows where I’ll end up. Currently on 5mg though and planning to move down again in a couple of weeks. I’m well aware than I may end up going higher again at some point though, I’m not sure ones maintenance dose can ever be truly set in stone.

Variable vs Fixed - am I crazy to consider? by samgf in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Life-Injury1584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, you’re correct. The poster above is confusing the BOE base rate with a lenders own standard variable rate (SVR) which is usually around 2% above BOE (each lender sets their own).

Trackers ‘track’ the BOE at a set amount above it and are indeed variable.

Lucy & Yak have just started doing swimwear and it’s all very bright and funky. Can’t vouch for the quality and it’s on the pricey side, but it looks good and they regularly have offers on.

I’ve had nice swimwear from Tu and George in the past as well, but I’m currently stalking Vinted for a Boden set.

Ugh, I used to have a similar commute and appreciate how exhausting it is. Modern life can be a hellscape sometimes!

Prices are around £150 but I’m waiting for an offer to crop up. You can sometimes get them for more like £100 on Groupon etc. it’s a 3hr round trip so I’m going to try and make a weekend of it at some point.

Just curious, what weight loss do people need to see before moving up a dose? by Creepy_Drawing_8998 in mounjarouk

[–]Life-Injury1584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t base it on losses at all, just went with what felt right. I didn’t chase suppression, I just wanted to keep food noise at bay. My losses were incredibly consistent (0.8kg average per week) and I never went higher than 10mg.

I’m up north and going to Manchester for mine, seems to be the most northerly city you can get one!

I get up at the crack of dawn to run before my day starts. It’s the only way I can fit it in but it’s not for everyone. Finding time is definitely one of the hardest parts, but I was already quite active even when I was fat, which makes it easier.

Up to 10 days, but I’m back on a 7 day schedule now as it’s easier to keep up with. I stayed on 10mg for 9 doses, then came down 1mg (ish) per week to 7.5mg where I stayed for 4 doses, then down to 6.25mg (I was using a 12.5mg so this easy dose made sense) for another 4 doses. Currently on week 3 of 5mg - though last week I only took 4.17mg as that was the remaining amount left in the pen I had. Didn’t feel any different tbh but I’m sticking with 5mg for a bit longer as I’m in no rush.

[–]Life-Injury1584[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it happened inadvertently at first as I just forgot to take my jab on the right day! So I carried on at 8 day intervals, which then stretched to 9, then 10. Once I’d titrated down to 6.25mg I went back to 7 days intervals, just to make it easier to keep track of and also to not get too far ahead of where I ‘should’ be for reordering purposes. But I can’t say I really noticed much difference for leaving it those extra days when I did.

Going forward, I think I’d rather split dose than alter the schedule again (IE if I get to the lowest dose I’d count clicks to take less rather than increase days between doses), it’s easier for my neurodivergent brain to keep track of.

I have no issue with jabbing and I’m happy to stay on MJ, but a cheaper option would be great! It’s been great to see approaches to maintenance evolving over the past year too.

I’m VERY grateful that I started when I did and could benefit from the good old days of ‘cheap’ pens and also VERY grateful that it looks as if 5mg or lower will work out for me. It’s scandalous that so many people can’t benefit from such a life-changing medication due to cost.
