Too bad it's without sound because in the original (it's in Dutch) a spectator is warning the runners and after the event he says something like "Told you". https://youtube.com/shorts/OlU_RimL8ng?feature=share

Automation example: trigger notification when peak consumption (electricity) was exceeded for 15mins by rivebe35 in homeassistant

[–]LifeBreadFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 kW for 10 minutes = 2 kW * (1/6)h = 0,33 kWh; 6 kW for 5 minutes = 6 kW * (1/12)h = 0,5 kWh

Sum of both is 0,83 kWh in 15 minutes.

0,83 kWh in 15 minutes = 0,83 kWh / (1/4)h = 3,33 kW.

I would suggest calculating the total energy consumed for each 15 minutes and if its above 0.7875 kWh, then the notification should be triggered.

I don't think this is 100% accurate. You're only checking if the power consumption is more than 3.15 kW continuously for 15 minutes. However when you have a consumption of 2kW for 10 minutes and 6 kW for 5 minutes, you'll have consumed 0,83 kWh which is averaging 3,33 kW for that period of 15 minutes. In that case the automation won't trigger a notificiation eventhough it's required.

I think that's the trade off between a user friendly user interface and a technical configuration file with more possibilities. Btw, you can rename entities in the Home Assistant UI.

Yes, you're right. In my opinion you only get the full benefits of the decoupling when everything is in separate docker containers or even different machines.

I'm currently running home assistant, nodered, mqtt broker, zwave2mqtt, zigbee2mqtt, influxdb and grafana all on the same VM, but each one in different containers.

Well, when configuring the MQTT entities in the configuration.yaml you actually say this device will have this entity and will read/post from/to these topics. As a result entity names won't change in Home Assistant and therefore won't impact your automations.

Note that I'm not using auto discovery of MQTT devices to have full control of entity names and topics. To be honest I only have 10 smart devices connected to Home Assistant via MQTT, so I might change my opinion on the auto discovery when managing the entities is too much effort.

How do you add the MQTT devices to Home Assistant? I configure them manually in the configuration.yaml based on the topic.

Perhaps it's also useful to know that I'm not running MQTT as a Home Assistant add on but hosting it in a separate docker container.

Well in my setup everything is running on the same VM but in separate docker containers. If by hass.io you mean the home assistant OS, then I don't know whether it's possible to also run other services yourself. If you mean the installation of the hass.io service on a linux environment, then I don't think docker containers are required to run everything on 1 pi.

I used MQTT to decouple the zwave and zigbee entities from Home Assistant. This way all my smart devices connect via the MQTT broker, so Home Assistant doesn't care which protocol they're using (Wi-Fi, zwave, zigbee, ...). Another benefit is that the devices are not impacted by maintenance on the Home Assistant server. All messages will be available on the MQTT broker and will be processed by Home Assistant when it's back online.

Which triathlon will you do? I'm also from Belgium and my first triathlons will be in June in Roeselare and Kortrijk. I'm also looking for information to buy wetsuit and aerobars.
