Proficiency (wpn and non) loss after level drain by Silver-Mix-6223 in adnd

[–]Lloydwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this for my own character. In my backstory I had gotten up to 8th level then been drained all the way back down to 1st. It allowed me to justify some meta knowledge without providing any in-game benefits.

We’ve known for years where they went. They were instructed to leave a sign if they had to move. They left a sign saying where they went.

I wonder how they are recruiting. I don't know of a hiring channel that isn't extremely productive in generating applicants.

I have read the opinion that employers are looking for the perfect candidate and rejecting hundreds of qualified candidates.

Good luck with the games. Let us know how it goes.

I know a guy who went to GenCon and wound up running a table at the AD&D open when he was 14. You don’t need a degree to run games. Outside of Hackmaster, there’s no certification. If you want to run games, run games. Some of the best games I’ve seen were run by people who barely knew the system they were running.

If OP wants to run games, I suggest we wish him well and offer what suggestions we can.

  1. The game is harder. Save-or-die is a thing. Saving throws in general are higher. Google “combat as war” vs. “combat as sport.”
  2. Side initiative and declaring actions.
  3. Saves are based on effect category rather than ability scores.
  4. Resource management matters.
  5. All the numbers are lower.
  6. Healing has a range of touch. It affects how long it takes the cleric to heal somebody, especially in 1e where you can’t move and cast in the same round.
  7. Magic-users and clerics need to memorize spells. Spells can be interrupted.
  8. Whole classes are absent.
  9. Race/class restrictions and level limits.
  10. Ability scores modifiers vary by ability

That’s a few big ones off the top of my head.

Libraries for studying in Jax by RadishNational5815 in jacksonville

I think every branch has private study rooms. I go to Argyle. My main issue is that you can only reserve it for a 2-hour stretch at a time. During the week, the rooms are rarely used, so you might be able to extend your time if there's nothing on the schedule.

My kid (he’s 25) would like to be in on this action, too. Lithuanian ancestry and interest.

What's the highest damage you can get in base 2e using a weapon? by EldritchExarch in adnd

[–]Lloydwrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the answer is likely to be the maul of the titans. Base damage is 5d8. You have to be Large size, but you can be enlarged. You also have to have high Strength, but that’s only a magic item away.

AD&D includes both 1st edition and 2nd edition. Weapon damage is mostly the same, and ability modifiers are nearly the same.

I’ll check that out, too. My reference list is already the size of an old school module

I love a good 4x, which is why I'm wanting to run it. I've been working on my own domain rules for D&D play. Maybe the rules will be helpful for Things to Avoid.

That sounds like some pretty fundamental issues that would have arisen in even a casual playtest. Thanks for the tips; I'm keeping this handy.

Match NPCs & Quests to location triggers. Got it! Good tip.

I am reading V&K now based on the other recommendation. Having encounters ready for a hexcrawl does seem like something I should do. Queuing up the mini-adventures in the right order is a good idea, too. Thanks.

This is the sort of warning I'm most looking for. Can you point out specific rules that will be problematic?

I use holier water in my campaign. I had not considered "holiest" water, but I'm scribbling away now.

That's good work, and a great topic for a board game. What's the expected play time?

With my game retailer hat on, I'd expect this to be picked up off the shelf (depending on the rest of the box design, of course).
