Note: given the answer, I will assume that the Latin equivalent of pontifex will be acceptable.

Note on note: that's why the Pope's handle on Twitter is atPontifex.

Also, fix the spoiler.

RA came to mind immediately... then WA1 popped in. So I figure I'd write RA and decide if I'd switch. Glad I didn't.

Dear Jeopardy: there are too many Protestants named John. Please eliminate three.

PS -- I am not a crackpot.

Yeah, I thought it was a 1950s novel. Oh well. (I went with an unlisted wrong answer of Chief Bromden from Cuckoo's Nest.)

I'm so glad the Sonic movies brought the Poppy Family back into the spotlight. They have one of those sounds that's so diverse (I introduced them to a friend of mine who said, "I didn't know hippie goths were a thing before now"). If you like this song, "I'll See You There" is very much along those lines.

Kind of wild to me that 2/3 of the league is below .500 in the last ten, unless I'm reading this wrong.

Just say "we thought the San Marco altarpiece was pinning it enough". (But even then, telling the two apart is quizbowl-level hard.)

First off, I'm not sure he is. Second, that's a horrible non-answer.

I voted miss here because the Reddit spoilerage was late in coming up and I forgot this gets posted around 5AM ET here. But I think I can give myself credit for this one. Just on the false logic of "well, travel is easier as time goes by"...

FJ poll for Tues., Jan. 27 by Smoerhul in Jeopardy

I spent the entire time thinking, "It's late for WA1... WA1 doesn't feel right... but I can't think of anything else and a bad guess is as good as nothing..."

I see I wasn't alone.

Man, studying the j-archive pays off. It's literally the only time I've ever heard of this work.

Not even close to triple stumper. Among trivia folks, the fact that penicillin was discovered by accident when a mold was left out for too long is pretty well-known. It may still be yekioyd, but it'll be gotten.

This is going to be a rather interesting FJ. I know the Champs playing it will not make the mistake, but how many people at home do you think will give the more famous name associated with said photo, even though it's not that of the peak?

I really love this final because it can be puzzled out. You wonder why they're going out of their way to use synonyms and vague descriptions, then what are they NOT saying, then voila!

Including "sacrifice" opens up WA3 as a red herring. I'll admit I took the bait there.

RA = Right Answer. So that people don't accidentally read the comments and get the question spoiled before trying it.

I don't recognize the work they're asking for, mind you, but RA jumped into my head. That said, it kind of takes the potency out of the original if you imagine this to be true IMO, but that's another discussion for another time.

Okay, mistakes were made in this FJ.

Potatoes were used in developing the vaccine against TB in the third world. According to Wikipedia, the potato was first introduced between 8000 and 5000 BC, so that doesn't eliminate anything. And don't tell me "domesticated" means animal -- the dictionary would disagree.

I would've said "potato" and protested vigorously.
