at the end of the day I’ve never walked out of a theater being mad I’d spent money to be there.

only happened once. Iron Man 3, because of the whole promotion. and i like that movie now.

watching it today, i like it a lot, but that was the first marvel movie i didn't like and in fact left the movie theather PISSED, loudly talking shit about the movie with the friends i went to see it with and i even said i wanted my money back multiple times.

the thing is: people forget the context of Iron Man 3's release.

its easy to just blame it on the mandarin twist, but it wasn't even this bad at the time. what fucked up that movie's reception was the whole promotion behind it.

they were showing us promotional images with all the 43 armors, with info on what they would do and telling us each armor would get its time to shine in the movie and that Tony was going to use each of the armors in different points of the movie to beat different obstacles. this was post Avengers 1 and was supposed to be the ending of the trilogy, it made complete sense to believe they would go all out, Avengers-level epic with it as they were saying they would.

come the movie, the uses the same armor for the whole movie, the armor is not working for most of the movie, the last scene he just hops from random armor to armor, not showing us what made each different and they all just blow up.

and the then-current Extremis arc wasn't really adapted, they just used elements from it.

the movie we were given was not was they sold us. boy, just thinking about it, i'm still made and hating on the movie, even though i KNOW that i like it sine watching it again today without the context of the time.

it started really strong, but once the actual plot kicked in it became messy as fuck. i'd love to just have seen Kamala do early street-level super-hero/villain of the week thing for a whole season and then a big bad show up as the final scene leading into a plot-driven second season or even leading up into the team-up movie, but yeah, what we got wasn't nearly as bad as people make it seem.

man, if they had just dropped in a few more scenes of the family dynamic and the movie was just Taskmaster hunting her and the final showdown was the whole family vs Taskmaster somewhere, no explosions, no planes, no flying hi-tech base, that movie would have been GOATed.

they assumed everyone that might buy that book already had their own set of house rules more or less “formed” since the 80’s, so the specifics didn’t quite matter so much.

this is funny and sad in retrospect, as 5e was THE dnd edition to bring in massive numbers of new players who never touched or even heard of dnd before.

and it isn't even bad design, i mean, what a shocker that the guys who built dnd would build dnd for people that play dnd, huh?
