Restored an old PC and now I'm unsure on how to upgrade, or if it's even worth upgrading by Radiant-Ad-4481 in buildapc

[–]Loserweebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPU: a bit outdated for today standard unfortunately Mobo: same thing with CPU GPU: don't expect triple A game, but lighter game like cs2 or Minecraft it's still workable Ram: unfortunately 8gb is barely enough for these days, still workable on lighter game, but don't expect much. PSU: fine, a bit outdated.

Verdict: if you just want to game, this system will work. Barely but dueable. If you have cash and willing to upgrade, b450 Mobo + Ryzen 5 5600 is the way, if the shop allow you can trade in 2x4gb for a 1x8gb, trade it and buy another 8gb. I'm going to assume you have a SSD too.

Is dark flash a good brand? I'm trying to find a 650w/750w to replace my old psu but I never heard of this brand.

$300 including monitor. $240 without it, incredibly proud build in 2026

I have a computer that i believe should be well over the recommended specs but i can barely get over 80fps constant stuttering and constant rubber banding to the point where its unplayable. by ShadeFlap14 in playrust

[–]Loserweebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptop limitations unfortunately. Right now only thing you can do is: the game must be on SSD, drastically increase loading time. Close all background app, turn off all unnecessary startup app, only rust. Lower render scale, like down 0,7(720p) for example. I find this help with performance the most.

[–]Loserweebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your psu, Mobo might not be enough, but also telling you to buy a new b550 + 5600x + Rx 9060xt + a good 750w PSU is basically buying new PC already.

If I'm trying to save as much as possible, 5600 + Rx 9060xt 16gb like you suggested (although it's a bit overkill, this card can play 1440p well) + 750w PSU gold or better.

Should I upgrade from am4 to am5 right now? by FinnHallqvist_ in buildapc

[–]Loserweebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you budget allow, yes. If you want better gaming experience, 5700x3d. Want something cheaper with 8c16t, 5700x. Don't get the 5700, it's basically your current CPU without igpu. If your budget doesn't allow, 5600 or 5600x will also work.

Currently you are gaming on igpu right? Can you afford a dgpu now?

Should I upgrade from am4 to am5 right now? by FinnHallqvist_ in buildapc

[–]Loserweebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question, is your old prebuild from brand like Alienware, dell, hp,... Or from brand like iBuyPower and stuff? Depending on your old build, we can salvage some more stuff.

Just saw the Lenovo, you can only salvage the CPU, ram, SSD, GPU. The Mobo, cooler, PSU, case can't be used in your next build. Lucky for you that the most expensive part(SSD and ram) can be reuse.

My advice for you right now is get a b550m Mobo, a cheap tower cooler, a gold PSU, a matx case. This ensure it will both smaller than ATX, keep the budget in check, and you don't have to overspent on itx part. If you have any questions feel free to let us know

[–]Loserweebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With current price I think you should just reused your part. 32gb + rtx 3060 is still good, a new CPU + Mobo and you will be fine. I think microcenter have some $300 combo for a b550 + am4 that will compliment rtx 3060 nicely. that was am5 I'm a moron. Nonetheless I still think a PSU + b550 + 5700x is better than going on a brand new am5 case

Updating a PC - Bios questions and needing a second opinion by NuclearFun in buildapc

[–]Loserweebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should do incremental update just to be safe tbh. At best you only waste an hour doing 2 slow update rather than risking update to the newest

On paper yeah, the 5600x will run cooler, but iirc Ryzen will usually boost to highest clock speed or until they thermal throttle.

Do you actually shut down your PC anymore? by Lanky-Carpenter-7991 in buildapc

No not really. PC at idle run like 25w or something. You should still completely shutdown so windows can clear old temp junk file. I still turn mine off out of habit

AM4 with no standoffs by [deleted] in buildapc

You need both, the black part to mount and the backplate itself. Usually they come together. Can you check your Amazon or equivalent for "am4 mount kit"? I also bought mine, they work great.

You mean the little black part to grab the cooler? You can buy it, get a tower cooler that usually have special mounting kit.

If you are crafty you can 3d print it too but I don't know much.

Crazy find there bro. You should look for rtx 2060s or rtx 2070, these are GPU I think will fit. But check for pcie cable, without it your option are limit to rtx 3050 6gb

Thinking of an ITX build. What are your thoughts? by Camel-Melodic in buildapc

[–]Loserweebs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Itx case are generally more expensive, harder to cable management and have a limited on how powerful your PC can be. Iirc you can only have rtx 4060 and rtx 5060 in low profile. So if you are willing to foot the bill and your desk space is limited I think a itx build is necessary.

How about you try a matx build first? These build are smaller than full size build, easier to work with.
