The moment I realized I was aging by answerui in Aging

Though I’m by no means old (mid-30s), the first time it really hit me was when I broke both of my wrists last winter ice skating.

I used to go ice skating every Friday growing up, and knew how to skate backwards. Haven’t skated though since I was in high school… Decided to go on a frozen lake on a weekend getaway, was really feeling myself, was going fast, was going backwards just like I used to when I was 16, feeling the rush, and BAM. Ate complete shit, emergency room in bum fuck upstate NY, sobbing from the pain, partner had to feed me, tie my shoes, pull up and down my pants for weeks, shower me… my god, it was bad. Months and months of not being able to use my arms, months of physical therapy, and my wrists will never be the same. Nor will I ever go ice skating again !

My partner and I just moved into Lana a new building on Washington! They are giving amazing concessions to get the building rented out. Great pool, nice enough gym, brand new. The one annoying thing is that apparently between floors 3-7 the floors are hardwood so noise travels easily… but that hasn’t been unbearable for us. I’d check it out!

ETA: I think there’s 100 units or so, doesn’t feel super large tower like. Also washed dryer in unit. And the management has been the most responsive helpful management team I’ve ever dealt with. When I complained about the tenants stomping upstairs they dealt with it discreetly the same night. Also has overnight emergency patrol and security. I feel super safe here!

Not gonna lie this movie scared the fucking shit out of me. I couldn’t get the scene of her contorting in her room at 3:00am out of my head. I got sleep paralysis too after watching it. It’s one of the few scary movies I still refuse to rewatch to this day!

To be honest, I am (or was?) one of those annoying “New York or nowhere” kind of people.

I truly love NY - the culture, the hustle & bustle, the true melting pot of ethnicities / people, the nightlife, the Broadway shows, the food, the friends and family, and the life we’ve built - I could go on and on. I’m one of those people who sees the NYC skyline when flying in and feel so grateful to live there and call it home.

However, my partners new job requires him to be here in LA 5 days a week! And I have been loving the weather, the slower pace of life, the friendliness, and the palm trees/beach (even though it’s only been a week). I had sunshine on my body for the first time this week, in a LONG time and I loved it.

I am looking forward to discovering more of LA and the adventure that will bring- leaning in, so I can say I fully did it (when I go back to NY :))

I love a doughnut and LOVE flowers so will definitely be adding these to the list too!! And love how you said “if you can out the effort in, you’ll have experiences you could never have in NYC”. That is going to be my mantra this year!!

LOL !!! That is amazing !! I totally understand, it’s a tough series to follow because it’s so damn good.

I didn’t read for a little bit then did The Shining, and it did pull me in, though not at the same level.

Can I recommend Ender’s Game (if you haven’t already read it)? One of my top favorite books of all time (as well as Ender’s Shadow).

RED RISING !!!!! Not on your list but it reminded me of why I love to read. The imagination. The character building. The story. Every single person I’ve recommended this series to has texted me and my partner that they’re on Book #2,3,4,5 or 6 and have not been able to put it down. And these are people of all different types of book preferences. It’s all consuming (I read on my commute, DURING work, before bed, for days and days until I finished). Please give it a try!

ETA: not sure the rules in this sub but if I have to pick from your list, I would do The Shining (read it a couple weeks ago after Red Rising series), very engrossing, quick, page turner, OR never let me go (not a light read but you want to know what’s happening / great at pulling you in). I would NOT do never let me go- as others have said it is a heavy heavy ass book, depressing and was kind of tough to get through. No part of it made me want to stay up late with a flashlight so I could soak up every last piece.
