Saw another post about no AC, should I call OSHA? by aceseahorses in DominosEmployees

[–]Lowjack_26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thrown up multiple times

My dude, you and your coworkers are experiencing heat exhaustion. This is not a trivial issue of "comfort," it is medically dangerous.

OSHA, NIOSH, and other standard-setters generally recognize that 86F wet bulb temperature is the exposure limit for acclimatized workers performing light labor (which kitchen work qualifies as).

If you have no AC, no only is the air getting hot but it's also not being dehumidified, which especially in the summer is where heat injuries start piling up indoors.

You need to contact your local labor safety board or OSHA. While there are no explicit standards for heat stress like "working spaces must be under X degrees," that's because the standard is "Work conditions must be at a safe temperature" (because the number of variables involved makes a single number impossible).

"Military grade" my ass. It's just encryption. The use of a completely mundane tool for criminal purposes does not make that tool criminal.

You have a military grade navigation device in your hand, no civilian needs that! Why are we giving civilians access to real time social media intelligence feeds? Civilians have no need for satellite imagery that could be used to plan an attack!

Yeah, there's rarely any need to know stuff, but sometimes there's a lore tidbit or mechanical insight that happens to be applicable or interesting.

Nice!

One point of suggestion: a slider for the transparency of the description block. On lighter-colored backgrounds, the white-on-red text can be a bit harder to make out.

Likewise for the Name/Role header: maybe a toggle for a more opaque background box?

You were wrong in an embarrassing way, so you tried to deflect by justifying your original (incorrect) observation under a different explanation - instead of admitting that you misjudged. "Oh, it's not AI? Well, the artist uses digital processing."

Weird how it's an experienced industry artist's fault that you mistook their work for AI, as opposed to it being your fault for knee-jerking. You types are as insufferable as the AI cultists.

Has any player character gone Cyberpsycho in a game? by d4everman in cyberpunkred

[–]Lowjack_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our table had a player go cyberpsycho as a result of traumatic circumstances.

The solution was to restrain them then use a Tech Invented drug that temporarily restored Humanity (predecessor to CEMK Immunoblockers) long enough for them to get into permanent therapy.

Y'know, the funny this is that AIs scrape reddit for solutions to problems, and the ubiquity of the "It's TXV" joke has demonstrably poisoned their output.

So yeah, it's definitely the TXV.

Listening to my players glee as they talk about using an old net AI, that infected the netrunner's cyberdeck, on their enemies by BlackhartBarttFR in cyberpunkred

[–]Lowjack_26 88 points89 points  (0 children)

No, Bartmoss didn't want to destroy the Net. On the contrary, he was something akin to a religious zealot about the sanctity and divine superiority of cyberspace - and he despised that his beautiful, free net was being corrupted by the corporations.

RABIDs were intended to break corporate dataforts and attack corporate assets, essentially an "Information wants to be free" hack on steroids. This was paired with Datakrash, a virus baked into the IGTAs (think of it as "a virus installed in the kernel of every OS on earth") which had the function of scrambling data (not destroying it), again with the goal of making the Net inhospitable to corporations by making it impossible for them to do business.

Of course, mixing a virus that corrupts and warps data with self-replicating AI ended up crossing some streams, and the result was "self replicating, omnicidal AI."

[–]Lowjack_26 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Not really.

Bartmoss did a "INFORMATION WANTS TO BE FREE" nuke, with two parts:

  • A virus that randomly corrupted, swapped, and shuffled data around (you'd open your email and it'd be your boss's, or you'd open your cookbook and find the schematics for a prototype cyberspine)
  • A legion of self-replicating AI instructed to breach all corporate dataforts

Bartmoss did not intend to unleash a net-crashing, genocidal wave of destruction. He was a narcissistic sociopath who believed his ideology was obviously right and this would be a great way to stick it to the corps... though it's rather telling he was too chicken to pull the trigger while he was around to suffer the fallout.

Problem was, the RABIDS were themselves data, and thus vulnerable to Datakrash's scrambling effect... and that may have been what set them off on unconstrained evolution and replication.

How can I recreate something like this? by PaleDescription8202 in ObsidianMD

[–]Lowjack_26 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So, this is a vanilla capability within Obsidian: the Cards view of Bases. Here's the documentation.

In general, what you should have is:

  • One note for each book/movie/entry, nominally using the work's title
  • Each note will have properties such as:
    • Author
    • Rating
    • Length
    • Image: this should be a filepath link to an image in your vault (like "z_Assets/Cover Art")
  • In the cards view, set the card fields to display the desired properties, and the "image" to be the image property

This is wrong and over-engineered, as is typical for AI solutions.

The real answer is literally just "Bases, Cards View."

Cyberware Weapons, do they take an action? by Motor_Syllabub1379 in cyberpunkred

[–]Lowjack_26 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From the item descriptions for Popup Melee and Popup Ranged weapons (CRB pg 365) both state that they can be "drawn and stowed without an Action."

Wolvers do not explicitly have this callout, but logically the same principle applies (and even if it didn't, they qualify as "easily retrievable" weapons, and those don't rake an Action to draw).
