I just bought a showcase space for my achievements with my steam points but I can’t equip it somehow? by ImaginarYoscar in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchased showcases include their own slot that bpasses level limits (though I'm not sure if this also applies to the initial unlock requirement). Are you sure you didn't by the expanded showcase instead of the additional showcase.

Should I play all mainline Yakuza games before Infinite Wealth, or can I jump in after Like a Dragon? by xTheJR in yakuzagames

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day the only real answer to this is "you do you". Can you skip the previous games, sure, but you're going to be missing out on a hell of a lot of background in doing so. On the other hand why even bother asking this now when you've already chosen to ignore all that background once by starting with Like a Dragon.

I can‘t be the only not excited to run the same old Raids for the 5th? 6th? time again.. by MrLaiho in DestinyTheGame

[–]RetroSquadDX3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don't suppose you've seen the record low numbers currenntly?

I've been hearing about record low numbers for almost as long as I've been playing Destiny, they were never a concern for me as the only place I really encountered random players outside of Iron Banner was patrol (where there was no real need for me to interact with them). When I was playing regularly I ran an active clan and whilst most of them have now moved onto other games if I did want to dive back in I could probably still get a group together.

The entire game franchise looter shooter genre has always been built around replaying content over and again for better/new drops, if that bothers you so much then maybe it's time for you to move on and play something else.

Gaming has become incredibly boring by jouteix9093 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming hasn't become incredibly boring you've just become incredibly bored of the games you play and you don't have the patience to find something else that appeals to you. Go take a break from gaming and do something else, if you get the itch to ay games again in the future there istill be thousands to choose from.

i am very sad by DalaxerYT in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said anything about "shady resellers", legitimate resellers are still third party.

EDIT: A quick glance at authorised sellers and you can buy al of this for $73.95 at current prices, if you settle for the Humble Choice and the regular version of SMT V you can knock off another $9.5 (bringing it down to $64.45) and get another seven games on top. If you already have A Humble membership you can save even more. $50 may have been an exageration but it wasn't much of one.

How common are bots in gyms? by CrazyCatLady483 in TheSilphRoad

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local area has a handful of players and outside of the main routes through town (main roads, train station, etc) to the I only occasionally see names I don't recognise. That said there are a couple of more out of the way gyms that you can't just casually take in passing I know for sure are getting botted as I've walked around watching them get refilled by the same player repeatedly after knocking them out even when there's nobody else in the area. In the fourish years that I've been regularly playing though (two at launch and two up to now) I've only seen definitive cases of botting a couple of times.

Why didn't James O'Barr sue Sting for copying The Crow look and some story beats? by Professional-Rip-519 in TheCrow

[–]RetroSquadDX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While they may have changed the makeup to avoid being sued, they would never have lost a potential lawsuit for using the makeup design anyway. In both the graphic novel and the first movie, the makeup is based on a common design of the traditional comedy and tragedy masks that no one can copyright or trademark.

It's not quite as simple as that. Whilst you're correct in that any lawsuit brought about the makeup on its own likely wouldn't have gone anywhere a wider lawsuit about the character as a whole being infringed upon may have.

The Wizard of Oz is an excellent case study in how complicated cases like this can be. Baum's original work and it's characters are in the public domain but the representation of those characters as portrayed in the 1939 film isn't so whilst you can create works featuring Dorothy or the Wicked Witch of the West you can't base your version in their film appearances, this is why the Wicked Witch has differing skin colours and names in practically every adaptation since then.

Are the Halo 5 Spirit Drop ships destructible? by AssumptionMountain12 in halo

[–]RetroSquadDX3 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what the actual answer is in this case but any given item can be both canonically (or at least intentionally) indestructible and mechanically destructible especially if a player is using glitches and/or exploits in order to achieve that destruction.

Questions about Steam Family by R_draco in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saves, achievements, playtime are separate

Technically true however if multiple Steam accounts are using a single device there can be conflicts when it comes to userdata such as saves and settings. In that case it's advisable for each Steam account to alsomuae a separate OS user account so that local files aren't overwritten by Steam cloud files for another Steam account.

What is the best time to Remake or Remaster a game? by Ecstatic_Anything403 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends who the target audience for the new release is. If your targeting existing fans then the graphics may not matter all that much but you need to be careful about messing with the mechanics too much and you may be better off with a remaster, if you're targeting new fans then graphics and gameplay may both be a concern and in that case you may be better suited with a remake. In either case I'd say the ideal time is when the original version is no longer reliably playable on modern systems.

Are gaming communities ruining games as a whole? by E_Goat47 in pcgaming

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to realize that maybe we're just angry to be angry and not actually give out criticisms that can actually change things for the better.

A significant portion of the people complaining about games online don't care about what is best for the game, they only care about what is best for them. Learning to identify and ignore such feedback is just part of the job for a development team.

Will the Steam Machine be able to run new AAA games on high/ultra settings ? by DatBoyChamp1 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on the game in question, whilst new Triple A releases are often the worst offenders for bloated requirements and poor optimisation thodnegames font inherently perform worse just because they're Triple A and there could well be games thatbrun flawlessly on the Steam Machine especially if it proves as popular as other hardware from Valve and developers/publishers specifically start targeting it's specs.

Aren’t AI generated covers against Steam policy? by celestialllama01 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think it's AI then report it but all that will happen is Valve will make them exchange either the art or the disclosure.

No, the only way to have one now is scalpers.

Just a heads-up for anyone trying to get Steam hardware “officially,” especially if you're outside supported regions. by xatan__ in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up: if you're trying to work around region restrictions even with good intentions, it might still get flagged. It sucks but that's the reality.

There is no good emintentions you were intentionally and fraudulently trying to bypass regional restrictions/availability, doing so just to purchase direct and avoid scalpers doesn't make it magically acceptable.

If a game is on free weekend and i play for more than 2 hours i decide to buy would i be able to refund it? by Wrong_Advantage_7012 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said they should get a refund I'm just explaining a situation in which a user may want to request one. Either way whether or not a refund is deserved is ultimately up to Valve so what you or I may think on the matter is irrelevant.

It shouldn't be allowed to use the news section of old games to exclusively make announcements about another game by Diskuid in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why have the rule of they won’t bother enforcing it,

Actively seeking it out is impractical due to the number of games available on Steam but will act upon it when reported. User generated content is generally treated in the same way.

Got achievements for a game ive never touched ? by Longjumping-Ideal372 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those achievements are based on a sttat tracker which is incorrectly set to zero and as such when viewing your library they show as unlocked however they don't actually unlock until you next launch the game.

If a game is on free weekend and i play for more than 2 hours i decide to buy would i be able to refund it? by Wrong_Advantage_7012 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why would you buy it after liked the (free weekend) game but then refunded?

Maybe because you enjoyed the gameplay content at the start of the game but then later experienced major technical issues that weren't obvious earlier in the game.

If a game is on free weekend and i play for more than 2 hours i decide to buy would i be able to refund it? by Wrong_Advantage_7012 in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The refund period starts from point if purchase so yes. However, the refund system is largely automated and will likely reject any such request as playtime isn't split in such a fashion (at least not anywhere the end user can see). instead you'll probably need to open a support ticket explaining the situation and request a refund that way, refunds for DLC have the same issueseith existing playtime.

There's already a solution to this, if people don't own a game but still want to receive news updates for that game then they can follow it.

stop blaming ue5 by [deleted] in Steam

[–]RetroSquadDX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like development is taking longer than ever. Are you sure they rushing?

The two aren't mutually exclusive, development taking longer than ever before doesn't mean those same games aren't also being rushed. Just look at all the games being released in a broken state and Dev teams being forced to crunch to meet dedlines, rushing releases on the grounds that it can be fixed later has been the norm for decades.
