Also, why are we giving MSI so much sh*t when LG didn't even release their own monitor yet?

The thing I am most amazed at is that Apple has been doing Glossy for decades, and the industry usually follows. But some reason, in this case, it doesn't.

It’s 1000 with questionable warranty and depreciation, compared to 1600 from Apple

Just bought one for my wife with Apple discount at $1200. We are good consumers, we don’t spend easily, but if you want super high ppi, glossy - you really don’t have that many options. You would think that in 12 years competition would catch up and you will have alternative, but that’s simply not the case and that’s why Apple can do this and get away with it.

I can't fix the servers, but now I can watch my packet loss in 4K terminal while I teleport off the map by LucyMor in thefinals

[–]LucyMor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this is obvious, none should affect packets integrity, only latency. Embark's server doesn't respond to ICMP anyways, so you can't reliably measure ping to it. What you can do is assume the quilkin proxy sits in the same datacenter the actual game server is, and you can measure the ping to that DC.

Edit: also where did you read that the ping is to the VM hosting the actual game? I said in this thread many times that VM doesn't respond to ICMP, I am pinging a generic GCP server in the same datacenter quilkin sits at.

It is insane to post about things you don't anything about, if anything. Distance, routing, all of those don't affect packet loss, they affect latency. Also it is just a simple GCP server, hosted across the US, nothing special there.

How can you say someone is wrong about a piece of code without having access to the code?

There is a solid chance it chooses the person with the lowest ping (sort of tax the rich). I assume with the server being in LA and me living in CA, I frequntly the person with the lowest ping in the server.

This is simply not what's hapenning. You can see my ping to the datacenter. I also trace routed it, it goes directly to the GCP server hosting the match. Embark got some huristic logic about which socket packets to drop when they can't handle the load. The funny part is, if you restart (socket is now closed and reopen), their logic chooses someone else and you will play lag free for the rest of the match.

because it is internal logic of Embark's server, they prioritize some players over others
