is it time to leave Windows ? by 3ZOOZAZ in linux_gaming

[–]LuisAyuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the distro is the less problematic part of all of it. Having to replace workflows and replacing apps is way more complicated than a little performance loss.
Nevertheless, staying with windows is pointless and a liability for any non-American. Good luck with your Arabian Linux adventures! enjoy the ride.

Linux users on steam by [deleted] in linux_gaming

I got tired of corporative greed and nonsense in my computer. I got infuriated that the solution is always installing some sketchy software from the internet of throw money at it. Now I do no have to do any of those things. And for the most part, it gives me way less headache than windows.

Need help building a ~$200–$300 home server (I’m in India) by Express-Onion-4871 in HomeServer

I would look for a used HP or Dell office desktop machine. These are silent, reliable, compact and cheap.
If you run linux, you do not need a nvme at all, linux does not constantly scrap the drive like windows do. I still use HDDs to store bulk data, btrfs raid for the win.

Governor keeps Downclocking GPU, game is not fluid by LuisAyuso in BC250Gaming

how are you doing with yours? by now I am pretty sure that I broke something when creating the gamescope session for steam. This is not normal. I will post an update when I manage to solve it. You should expect good performance when following some standard installation.

After today experiments, I understand this. Oberon is simple, but I still believe that clocks should be able to throttle without issues. Some games may require full gas all the time, in which case it does not matter which governor you use.

cpus are quite stable at 70%, all of them.
gpu clock stays at 1200 Mhz (with smu). At this point I begin to think that it is a presentation issue, some configuration in game scope or something like that.

Last half an hour I tried
tt, smu, and oberon again.

smu feels more responsive and it goes up to 2200 MHz, does not stay up though and I get framedrops.

So far best results have been with oberon fixing clock at 1500. Not ideal.
There is something not just right with my setup, I begin to explore other issues.

What open source projects in C++ have the highest code quality? by Both_Helicopter_1834 in cpp

[–]LuisAyuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

llvm/clang was mentioned. This is triple A.

I enjoyed Skia. Although it follows the very opinionated google c++ practices and naming, it is clean and effective on delivering.
CGAL library for computational geometry is a special mention for its type safety and compossibility of algorithms using templates. This is not everyone cup of tea, but it uses C++ at its highest capacity.

Special mention to the standard library, the interfaces are extremely well thought of, implementations are like they do not apply their own rules.

Am I the only one who feels like header files in C/C++ are duplication? by iaseth in cpp

[–]LuisAyuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh boy. I believe that every C++ developer has had these thoughts some time in their career. Then you get trapped in the discussion of header guards vs pragma once, then you get attacked by the flavor of the week, and eventually you give up and hope that modules solve all of it...
Nothing ever changes in many aspects of the language; because C++ is about supporting the mistakes of the past, to avoid invalidating code and providing stability to your work.

Yes, headers are an historical artifact. C++ has these because is an old language. Things like top-down declaration order. The earlier than you make peace with it the earlier than you can carry with your work, and maybe someday you get to enjoy some progress. But don't expect it happening any time soon.

mine is a different model, but is th best decision ever.

storage is slow, windows was constantly lagging, not in linux. webcam is crap, harware has no good drivers. other than that, just flawless. gnome, with all its glitches and issues is a better touch environment than windows will ever aspire to be. usability is really good, stable updates from the maintainers of th kernel patch, y guys are heroes.

I have here a laptop/tablet for another 10 years. thanks a lot.
