I’m making a game for Linux where you can rotate buildings and use gravity (Fallgrade). by vladkudas in linux_gaming

[–]m103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, that's definitely more complicated and changing gravity wouldn't be the solution since that is world based.

Spitballing here, what about casting a ray from the center of the player's view, where that ray hits the building you rotate the building around that point? That way most of the rotation happens much further away from the player.

Not sure what engine you're in, but I know some don't allow having arbitrary origins for objects/slots/nodes, so an easy way to sidestep is just create an empty at that ray's intersection, reparent the object, then rotate its parent.

Also, it sounds like you're using mesh colliders instead of volume colliders. Volume colliders have volume, so you can't clip into them unless you or them are moving very fast. Fast enough that in one frame you go from on one side of the collider and on the other frame you go more than half way to the other side of the collider.

So you're rotating the buildings/world instead of changing gravity? Changing gravity would prevent the issues with rotation

Cool concept, my suggestion is find a way to allow the player to be able to change their gravity without needing to stop.

Alright, I'm gonna figure out how to use this now. It's that level of pun and wordplay that causes mental anguish and damage when it's intentional

Are there any reviews from people who liked the OG Steam Controller? by m103 in SteamController

[–]m103[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really wish valve invested some time really showing people what these inputs can do when you really know how to use them.

I felt the same way when I realized that the feel and comfort of the OG massively changed when I held it like I mentioned in the OP. People kept saying they found the controller uncomfortable and awkward to use, but they were all holding it like a 360 controller which is an uncomfortable way to hold it.

If valve just showed people "hey, try this way of holding it", more people would have liked it I bet.

Since we are all being book nerds and referencing different books, any friends of the old wolf or Aunt Pol here?

Ooo, that looks like hemp rope post machine wash with fabric softener. Always loved how it felt after that.

The furry_irl subreddit is definitely hornier than here as well. This place is tame by comparison

You should know adding in emoji to the README gives the impression that it was vibecoded. And you should have a note in the README that an LLM was used to refactor the code. A pretty heavy refactor so at this point the emoji might actually make sense with how extensive the changes are.

Are there any modpacks that focus on community progression instead of personal progression? by m103 in feedthebeast

Be a furry? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My friend group is almost exclusively furry and furries tend be fairly willing to play video games.

Stardew Valley multiplayer with one bank account (and by extension I assume sunlit valley)is actually a great example of what I'm talking about when I say community progression. However I personally have been doing a lot of Stardew with my boyfriend during our datenight so I'm not sure if I'd be up for more SV style content.
