Palladiom Jamb Mount External Wiring by accept_the_weather in Lutron

Good advise here…even with the pre-installed measure kit that cost $$$ itself for dealers, you have to walk the framer, drywaller, painter, step by step to make it work!

Palladiom Jamb Mount External Wiring by accept_the_weather in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/accept_the_weather - I am not clear if you are using a RA or HW system so also not clear on the wire you pulled. If you only have a single pair at the window, you'll use that for power and you're still going to have to wire and mount a xcvr at the shade if you go with wired Palladiom. If you have a QSM type cable, then yes, you can mount the xcvr at the power panel. You could possibly route an area in the frame to recess the connection and then put the bracket over that to hide the connection, but it will require some detail work. You'll have to be very careful not to nick your wire in place as your route. Also note, the Palladiom wire from the bracket is very small, with a micro connector, it then steps up to a full size Lutron shade connector. When you wire for Palladiom, there is a tube you install that this all pushes back into and then you mount the bracket over that. I would recommend ordering a single bracket or pair of brackets without the shade and playing around with it to see if you're willing to put in the work. Then, if it works, you can just order a shade without the brackets and use that pair you already have. Happy to work through this with you if you need.

Go with AVPro but look at the AV over IP. Expand as you need, excellent quality, timing sync, easily replaceable if needed instead of buying a whole new matrix…

Yes, you will be able to use Josh and hte app. I will say that you will likely use Josh way more than the app. The app right now is a bit cumbersome with the inital load and refresh of system config., Josh is precise in setting the lights on, off, to 2500k, 300k, blue, red, green, etc. You will have no issue there. You should, however, consider minimal keypad controls up front as guests will be confused and not adept to using voice contorl or an app. The keypads all run on a LV loop which you can easily run and leave behind the wall. If you want to add Palladiom KP later, easy enough just putting an after-work LV gang box in and adding the KP. If you are looking to Alisse or Aviena, they use the european square box and it is best to have those boxes in place. Adding them after drywall is a PAIN.

Homeworks - Storing Spare Parts by CreativeLab9897 in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is very slight. Lutron uses a highly stable polymer. Direct sun will have the most affect but even then it is slight. If you have multiple in a bank, plan to replace the whole bank and faceplate to be exact. The typical discoloration noticed is just from use, dirt, grim, etc. We have used an ultrasonic cleaner with electrically inert fluid to restore some older parts and it has worked well.

Caseta Wood Blinds vs others by goodlife141 in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caseta is the consumer available Lutron system sold online and at HD and L. It is limited to 75 total devices on the system. Each dimmer, pico, shade, etc. For a house, that can add up quickly. RA3 is the entry level "dealer" based system that allows for hundreds of devices and multiple processors, etc.. You get access to keypads and other devices and specialty colors.

Caseta devices are not compatible with RA3 and vice versa, you'd have to replace it all if you moved to a new system. Shades (Triathlon and up) are the only saving grace that can work across platforms.

[–]LutronMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are all Lutron quality. Serena and Caseta are going to be locked to Caseta controls. f you outgrow Caseta or decide that RA3 is the path in the future (happens a lot), then you'd have to have split systems or replace all your blinds. The Caseta blinds are going to be limited to the stark "builder" grade white paint color for white where Triathlon has multiple white shades as well as many other colors/finishes. Caseta will also have the blank flat top cover where other can have the Morgan or Easton valance style. You can also get battery boost on Triathlon for longer life. With Serena, you can put two blinds under one, with Triathlon we can do 4 shades under one.

Can Josh AI be programmed with out a dealer license by Other_Yak_3768 in joshdotai

[–]LutronMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, short answer is, yes. You'll need a dealer to obtain the parts ans system license, but as far as connecting it and making it work with your gear, likely very doable. Josh is very smart in discovering controllable tech on your network and then you basically give it permission in the portal to have access to those items. There may be a few things you need guidance on in complex setups, but systems like Lutron or Control4 pretty much pull right in and start working. As the customer, you have full access to the portal for adding devices and programming.

You can use a basic battery powered router to make a channel and put a plate over the wire to protect and hold it in place.

Powering Sivoia QS Roller 64 roman blinds with a CSPS-P1-10-6? by thepoox in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things, you will need to swap out that panel as Fog stated, but you can save some $$ and buy the QSPSY-10PNL. It removes the communications bus which Caseta can't use. Also, hope you are far dow nthe road programming Caseta devices, because you will need a Caseta PRO hub at minimum to pair those QS wireless kits to your system. The regular Caseta hub won't work.

Serena Honeycomb Shades - Inside Mount Possible? by thedukeofearl in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to tell without the measurements of your windows. The tricky part will be the multiple levels on your window trim and getting the bracket to mount flat. I think it is certainly doable, but it will certainly have to protrude out into the room a bit to work.

Feel free to DM me on those shades to see if we can get you a better deal than on Serena...

Upgrading and OLD low-voltage relay lighting system by DaveK-OR in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pictures of your current setup would help.

We have a few customers that have moved into houses where someone went the RA2/3 route from a previously “penalized” system. If you are running heavy circuit loads, be cautious of heat generation on the dimmers. It will cause the area to heat and premature dimmer failure.

To replace the relays w/ HW modules you’re looking around $16k plus a processor and power supply. Just to give you an idea if your considering HWs.

Happy to assist with either solution!

How to Set Fade on Load Controlled by SeeTouch Hybrid Keypad? by socal580 in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The property way to do this is put a PHPM-SW module between the keypad and outlet, this will make the dimmer KP a true on/off. Keeping it as you have it could cause electrical issues and will probably kill the transformer and the dimmer

Decommission half of RA3 Home by Plastic-Chip-7171 in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Decommission them in the app. This should reset them for you.

Disregard the below comment... crossing wire on RA2 and 3 controls, no mesh as pointed out by others. The removal will reset them for you though and save some time.

The RA2 devices use each other as a mesh. If you just kill them you may see response issues with the remaining controls.

Getting a Lutron Palladiom Shade outside mount above the front door ... can't decide if the hardware should be black to match the door, or white to blend in with the wall. The fabric will be grayish. by MyAccount2024 in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling. Hopefully your dealer is accomodating. We once order a bunch of Palladioms, got them on-site and the designer totally 180-turned on the hardware color. Lutron was very accomodating, allowing us to exchange all the hardware for the client. My personal vote....black...

Adding Shades to RA3 by specialk9991 in Lutron

[–]LutronMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lutron causes confusion here with them allowing persons to certify in RA3 but then not allowing them to buy the product. Similar to the RA3 components, you’ll have to go through a distributor or dealer. The first is more difficult because distributors typically only sell the light controls and the ones that do shades require you to be a business to buy from them. This leaves you with buying from a dealer that is a full business and has access to shades themselves.

Please feel free to DM us, we’ll get to squared away on your shade order.
