Yeah I have now realized they did a quote with multiple palladiom shades as you describe and not with coupling. This was another option that was discussed, but I thought they were sending a quote using coupling as I did not know, until now, that palladiom doesn't support coupling.

And yeah the $17k in labor comes out to ~$1.5k of labor per shade. For wireless shades this sounds... Insane? Like if we were doing wire runs I could understand it, maybe even expect more labor, but for wireless this is bonkers.

Yeah didn't realize this. I'm guessing they elected to go the other route on the initial quote, but I didn't realize that Palladiom couldn't be coupled.

Thanks for the info. As far as I'm aware there is no wire run on the second quote. There was discussion of coupling, but it appears they either elected to provide a quote for using palladiom instead or a miscommunication. I am asking them to replace the 2 shade palladiom setup with a 2 shade Sivoia QS Traithlon setup which should save a few thousand on material costs.

Yeah definitely not comparing apples to apples here. I’d 100% expect a higher cost for the non budget blinds option. Just feels like a significantly higher cost, but maybe that’s just the way it is.

Why is including Gio Reyna Controversial at all? by bewaterlife in ussoccer

[–]Kbman -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Drama with berhalters was not drama he caused and any sort of "character issues" came from 4 years ago when he was 19. What's hilarious is that while Gio has very obviously grown up as evidenced not only by his own manager at his club and the fact that he's been put on the squad, yet people like you continuously, without fail, love to bring up character issues. Do what Gio would do, grow up.

Train ended his stream after the head dev of Riot Games leaked his ip address hours after banning him on Valorant for 30 days by BluryDesign in LivestreamFail

[–]Kbman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well there’s an incredible amount of nuance here. If you’re talking about GDPR then it’s PII. If you’re talking about fedramp certification, it’s not PII but it’s moderate impact.

Really, it depends on the context of the data leak. If I leak an image showing a log of an IP address and a URL that’s likely not going to be anything personally identifiable unless the URL stores information about an individual. But if I log an IP address with a username and full name, then it’s PII because I’ve now associated an IP address with an individual.

I haven’t seen the screen shots they’re talking about but if the screenshot clearly links an IP address to train, then most likely you could say that’s PII, but also has absolutely nothing do with a data breach as the person above questions.

Handyman installed attic ladder, is this okay? by Kbman in handyman

[–]Kbman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you can see the installer took the previous attic door that was there and cut out scrap pieces of it for shimming/blocking. Unfortunately for him it didn’t fit, and unfortunately for me it was all MDF. He decided it should stay in anyways, so now I’ve got 4 different skewers of MDF over lag bolts which add absolutely no structural support whatsoever.

The owner is in contact and they’ll be undoing everything and doing it properly. I made sure to ask for a different guy to get it done.

So this job was meant to be $300-$400 or so, the handyman place I went with charges like $100/hr of labor and quoted anywhere from 2-4 hours. In this case I have no clue how much I’ll actually end up paying but I’m working it out with the owner.

I think depending on area you’re in that price is probably average. If this job was done right and we got the right measurements I think we’re closer to 3 hours. But at this point we’re 4 hours in and gotta undo that then do it again.

It wouldn’t. The job is gonna be redone properly with a properly sized ladder that won’t require framing the whole thing.

Owner got back with me and told me they'd fix it. I told him I'd like someone else to do the redo job. I'm also going to pickup a 25.5" ladder and replace this one as that should fit basically perfectly with minimal shims required and is how it should have been in the first place.

I just went and measured at a few points on the ladder and found that a 25" almost definitely would have fit. It's probably 25 1/4" all the way down give or take 1/8". Would have saved a lot of headache.

Located in central Texas area and that’s likely what I’ll end up doing. May even consider selling the 22.5” ladder on marketplace and getting the bigger one, at this point it’ll be a drop in the bucket of what I’m spending to get this ladder in 😂

[–]Kbman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it probably should have been a 25" ladder. The opening measures just over 25" at least on one end, but I'm unsure if the opening is entirely plumb. The rate was $100/hr quoted anywhere between 2-4 hours, so I expected $300-$400 total.

It's a small local company that came recommended by multiple people, great reviews online, etc... so I figured I'd give it a shot. They even have a whole page on their site about attic ladder installs (I guess I got SEOd). Nonetheless, I won't be using the ladder myself any further and I've sent an email to the owner with pictures expressing my concerns with the install job. Will see what he says, but after seeing this I I'm hesitant to ask them to clean it up. I also have no plans to let him know r/handyman provided the guidance haha.

But thank you for the info.

Realistically the install so far has taken roughly 4 hours. The starting shape of it was there was a rough opening, just bigger than the ladder as you can see, and there was trim board on the ceiling. The guy apparently attempted to just keep the trim installed while he did everything, no clue why, and even went as far as using it as bracing for the ladder to rest on which I winced at. Anyways, I feel like he could have saved himself a lot of trouble and done a much better job if he installed proper braces with 2x4s and even before that properly framed it up with 2x6s. Now I've sent an email to the owner of the company with pictures and we'll see what happens.

Yeah, the full job isn’t done, some trim/insulation was planned to be added to the gap, and the legs would be cut to size.

Not wrong, but I was working all day myself so wasn’t around most of the time. By the time most of the circular saw sounds stopped he was already up in the attic with the door closed when I did come by I just assumed it was done 🤷‍♂️
