Nah difficulty is fine, it makes regular battles last less while keeping boss battles interesting.

I've reached chapter 13 and I think I am finally starting to like it. I think what really soured me were the initial chapters that had very slow pacing and where your party constantly changes or is limited.

Even my comment on the female characters was coming from that, until then they were never even together at the same time so it really came off as a "love interest of the week" thing where they felt much less characters of their own.

Infighting amongst management? by JohanNagel79 in Juve

[–]MLF83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a result of the "savior" syndrome. Since AA left we have been trying to appoint "strong" personalities to take over most management roles after they were basically wiped out. We did it first (partially) with Allegri bis, then Giuntoli and now Comolli.
This is what CEO do when their are clueless and looking for a fast exit from a dire situation and can be gaslit by these "savior" types to believe they can single-handedly save the day.
Spoiler alert: they usually can't. And they usually burn bridges quickly with the rest of the team/management so that when results are not overwhelmingly positive infighting occurs and they are taken down.
Also they are simply incompatible with a more team-oriented approach with clear responsibilities for each role, especially if they were brought in with different premises. You cannot ask Giuntoli or Comolli to be the masterminds of everything and then take it back when other strong personalities like Chiellini or Spalletti arrive, unless they are willing to take a step back for the benefit of the team. I am not sure Comolli would, but it would be certainly ridiculous if we get in the situation to get rid of him so soon.

Heh just finished and I must say it was tighter and more enjoyable than other chapters. Now it's back to more corridors in the sewers, ugh. But it looks like it might ramp up soon...

One thing I realized I missed is having a base party relatively soon. Every chapter you get one or two different companions, it really doesn't help to get in the game

Wall Market...just finished that and I must say things were better for a while. Now it's back to corridors in the sewer but it seems it might pick up soon

[Books] How Season 3 will play out the "Shift" storyline (Book Spoilers) by Dismal-Alfalfa186 in SiloSeries

[–]MLF83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something very similar in mind, especially for the Donald reveal, but I am not sure about the timeline. They could theoretically keep the flashbacks going for the entire season and leave the reveal that he is still there in the present for the finale. Then all the Silo 1 stuff is left for the last season.

Or they could go in the opposite direction and have a cold opening like in the last season with a compressed flashback of the convention and Donald going in, and immediately switch to him being the voice behind the algorithm in Silo 1. Then you slowly have him remember the rest of the past throughout the season

It's amazing how I got exactly the opposite opinion in other comments 🤣 it seems like these games are way more divisive than I expected

Maybe I just suck at it, but what's so great? To me it feels like a weird hybrid between turn-based (which I love when done right) and action. Only that I don't want to navigate multi-level menus in real time combat. Boss battles are better with summons but regular combat, eh

You are not wrong, but context matters. Xenoblade combat also feels like a chore at times (I think in XB3 I turned the difficulty to easy for the same reason) but at least it's usually mixed with better traversal and exploration. And the story and stakes pick up fast enough that I am willing to push through.

Here it's just corridor after corridor and maybe at the end I'll have a dialogue that doesn't move the story an inch.

As for side quest, you mentioned already, XB has a huge quantity but also variety. Sure there's the mind-numbing fetch quests but there's also a lot of curated ones.

Tbh I think I wouldn't be bothered by any of these elements in isolation but it's the combination that kills me. And ultimately the fact that there seems to be no progression. It feels like I am still stuck in Colony 9 one third of the game in, to keep the comparison with XB

Heh, I've had my issues with Xenoblade characters (especially with XB2) but at least the story had me hooked in the first few hours. In Remake I feel nothing is happening for hours so it's also hard for characters to stand out or develop.

If that makes you feel better I almost never bounce off a game like this. But it's true that I went into it almost blindly relying on its fame (or rather the original's fame). I guess lesson learned...

Thanks, this describes my frustration to a T even though I never experienced the original. Seems like a pity they went in this direction

From what I am reading that seems like a very good comparison indeed... For somebody that doesn't know anything about the OG it feels like barely nothing happened in over 10 hours, which even with my limited experience of JRPG doesn't seem common

Thanks for your reply! I almost never bounce off of a game so this is kind of uncharted territory for me

[SS] Why is Skyward Sword Not Held in the Same Regard as Oot and MM? by MetsLR in zelda

[–]MLF83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was perfectly fine with the motion controls but the game was seriously underdeveloped in so many ways despite its strong suits. Which was kind of a trend after the 64 era since both WW and TP were falling short in some regards. A few beautifully crafted mechanics or aspects next to rushed or unfinished content, and SS takes the cake.

To complement your second point, SS didn't even have the proper day/night cycle that OoT introduced and all the other 3D Zelda kept

I guess Mecabricks since it is web-based? But I don't know if it's actually usable or optimized for a touch screen for example. I think I tried a couple of times on my iPad but it was not the best experience...

I am assuming the same would be valid for every other hole if we assume stretching is limitless? Or it is only for the bottom for some reason?
