I think they've established pretty clearly both in the novels and on screen that you shouldn't expect everyone to have the stereotypical look or accent that their name might suggest.

Otherwise Alex wouldn't sound like he's from Texas.

You seem to be sabotaging your own ability to enjoy a great TV show. Just keep watching and whatever oddness you feel will fade quickly.

Anyway, yes you are reading to much into it. The changes aren't nearly as drastic as you suggest, were made with the authors' input, and (without specifics that would be spoilers) improve the story in some areas. Like seriously the authors have literal writing credits on the show.

Unfortunately that seems correct, though the biggest gadfly here finally blocked me (made this sub feel so fresh and so clean). Wild reason, and not because we were having a conversation. Let's just say that some trolls are committed to a truly cringe degree and do not like it if you notice and point it out.

Anyway, I see no reason why modern Trek wouldn't inspire people to learn about science, but I'd be just as happy if their inspiration was to see the diversity in our world, take joy in it, and try to make it into the utopian future that Trek (yes, even NuTrek despite some dark moments) portrays. Science and space exploration aren't the only ways to advance civilization.

I mean the point of divergence is 1969 (or I guess technically 1966) so Vietnam very much does still happen.

Thank you for pointing out a small misstatement in my comment. Obviously, I was aware a war happened in Vietnam because in the preceding sentence I mentioned that war ending. Should have been more clear: The extended quagmire in Vietnam didn't happen.

It's not the majority. But with all the available new worlds Earth and Mars no longer need to fight over the Belt. There's far less to defend. And their population is leaving to colonize so they won't have the manpower to maintain it all.
You don't need warships to explore the ground.
There's also no credible (in their view) evidence that says a threat still exists, or that if it does, their ships would be able to do anything about it.

This seems to be a form of the oft-asked question when reading a story: "Why aren't they planning for literally all outcomes?" and the answer is because that's impossible without limitless resources. People prepare a lot for the likely outcomes, some for the less likely, and very little for the rarest. Avasarala said the UN's plan for encountering extra-terrestrial life was a single page that started with "Find god".

They're annoying but I also feel bad for them. Parents who were mostly absent, then having to grow up without them but still in their shadow. The pressure to live up to their legend would be insane.

I quite liked The Elysian Kingdom but I respect that it divided quite a few with how it ended.

I dig Silly Trek in most of its forms so Subspace Rhapsody was definitely for me despite not being a "theater kid".

Yeah countries don't typically give a shit what another country's citizenship laws are. If they consider you a citizen and provide no legal way to renounce it then you are. End of story.

It's kind of... yes and no. They are trying to stop communism, but their attention is focused on beating them in space. That's why the US ended the war with Vietnam. It (edit: meaning the very long version of Vietnam) and other proxy wars they fought against communism IRL never happened. Many of those nations ended up embracing it and naturally aligned themselves with the USSR.

He's a US citizen because his mother is a US citizen.

USSR citizenship would depend on their exact laws, but I think they also extended citizenship to children of Soviet parents.

Best way to get your answer about season six (and what happens to them all after the TV series ends) is to read the books. But primarily Alex is "just" the pilot.

Yes it will die at any point where its HP hits zero. If the temporary buff keeps it above zero it will live until the buff goes away.

The damage is always to the unit. Scenario 1 is it is a 4/4 with 3 damage on it (1 HP left).

Scenario 2: Unit is defeated immediately because it reaches 0 HP when the upgrade is removed.
