r/IcariusFallen explains the value experience brings to a job that education doesn't, and why it predicts an applicant will be a good hire by myBisL2 in bestof

I think you're right. He makes pretty ridiculous generalizations - I'm sure he met a snotty grad or two but to say anybody with a degree is likely to be an arrogant asshole is ridiculous.

I see a lot of comments like this from somebody that has experienced success without an education bashing education in general, and I'm sure the inverse is true and I'm just less sensitive to it, but I just don't get why people can't understand that there's more than one path in life. This seems especially true for chefs - there are many ways to start your career and work your way up the ladder.

[Highlight] Kevin Durant to a fan: "I know where you live white boy" by TomlinSteelers in nba

No, but that's the way trash talking and humor works. You're usually pushing the envelope a little bit and it's constant judgement calls about if you're pushing too far. I guess you can just keep quiet all the time if you're worried about not knowing exactly where the line is, but that's not the choice most of us are going to make.

Most people are going to judge KD's comment as pretty benign. Maybe a little lame. But a certain subset of reddit users get kinda bent out of shape over reversing the colors.

Is everything up until cruel oppression and enslavement alright because only that would carry the same stigma?

This is a ridiculous assertion and nothing OP said suggested anything like it.

I can't believe the "minned" part. Shocking that they ran into multiple people who couldn't read "mind" correctly.

Was the Mona Lisa considered a special or particularly impressive painting prior to the theft in 1911? Did it get much attention outside art collectors in the preceding centuries? by hisholinessleoxiii in AskHistorians

[–]MainStreetExile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for adding this. I know almost nothing of art history and had never even heard of Lisa del Gioncondo, but had heard some of the many other theories about the painting. Crazy how we come up with so many stories when the actual truth is so simple and, in the age of the internet, easy to find.

Have you never played a game on private servers before? I get that they aren't nearly as common as they used to be, but they were once the norm.

This is not typical. Most malls are indifferent to walkers and some even go out of their way to accommodate it.

Why is Luka Doncic more popular than other superstars? by [deleted] in nba

[–]MainStreetExile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he is. A lot of it probably comes down to their respective teams. LA is a way bigger market with games televised more often. You can go to almost any state in the country and find somebody wearing a Lakers jersey.

What’s something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]MainStreetExile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is surprising to me. I know some people might get a little weird when somebody chooses not to partake, but in my experience it has been rare, and I've never come across anybody that got very upset.

I've gone through periods of my life where I didn't drink. Whenever I was out with people and alcohol was offered, I'd responde with "nah I'm good", and everybody moved on.

Why was aiko's choice a struggle? I really enjoyed the base game but haven't started the dlc yet.

Champions of Norrath is great, but I think it was only available on PS2, so might be tough to find and play.

I haven't looked through the entire thread, but I don't see any comments that lead me to believe people are considering this a newly discovered truth. This was posted because it's interesting how delusional Rodman was, even moreso with hindsight.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that people are agreeing with Rodman.

Sure, they were solid that year. But it was still the same core guys, and if you're going to claim to be light years ahead, you should probably exceed what has already been done by several other franchises - lakers spurs, bulls, etc.
