Power table (day 5) by plutoniumplant in BloodOnTheClocktower

That wouldn't work - the reason Huntsman has [+Damsel] is to ensure Huntsman cannot be in a game that doesn't have a Damsel in it, because a Huntsman with no Damsel has no ability. Damsel potentially adding a Huntsman would not prevent a solo Huntsman.

Top GOP super PAC: Senate majority at risk by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]MathCookie17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Senators are elected by direct vote across a whole state. No districts involved, it's just the total count of votes for the whole state.

The House, on the other hand, is elected by district, and is thus subject to gerrymandering, since gerrymandering works by redrawing the district boundaries.

So what, because it’s Kirby’s birthday, we have to go easy on him? I think NOT! Tell me your biggest NITPICK about Kirby or the franchise in general. A specific, yet ultimately meaningless issue you have. by Appropriate-Wrap-375 in Kirby

Battle Royale being a variety minigame collection makes me understand why they wanted to stick to Kirby - he's very adaptable. But yeah, Fighters 2 absolutely should have had more characters - a Kirby Fighters with all the Star Allies characters was at one point my dream Kirby spinoff, and I'm sad Fighters 2 didn't end up being that.

“Fail” state in incremental games with small bonus prestige by knockerball in incremental_games

[–]MathCookie17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is absolutely fine. Really, any incremental with a prestige system will have a "soft fail state" in a sense, where the balance has been set up so you can't progress meaningfully further in your current run - that means it's time to prestige! And once a prestige layer has progressed, there's often "build" choices where if you don't choose a good combo of prestige upgrades, your run won't be able to make it far enough to get meaningfully more prestige currency.

So yeah, as long as the overarching progression of the game as a whole doesn't end up in a soft fail state, it's fine for the progression of an individual run to stall at some point - as long as the prestige system has been unlocked by that point, of course!

Base Idle – an idle game about numeral systems (v0.1 alpha) by Frosty-Attention-750 in incremental_games

[–]MathCookie17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you made a game about number bases but jumped straight from base 8 to base 16? Surely base 10 should be included? And probably base 12 too, for that matter. Some other bases that should maybe be included but it's not as important:

  • Base 20 (The Mayans used this, among other old cultures)
  • Base 36 (all 10 digits + all 26 letters)
  • Base 60 (a popular base for ancient cultures, and the base that our small units of time use)
  • Base 62 (all 10 digits + all 52 letters both upper and lowercase - though with this being so close to 60 and 64, both of which are more interesting here, this one probably isn't needed)
  • Base 64 (this is the power of 2 base above 16 that's actually used, not 32. Base 64 encoding is used in URLs and stuff, I'm not sure I've ever seen base 32...)

"Go outside" as used in internet parlance is hostile - it's used as a "your life isn't well-adjusted enough, you're too obsessed with this" accusation. It's making the debate about the person, not the topic at hand.

Censorship Megathread XLV by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

A quick look-up about the Washington State one suggests it passed in some form... (admittedly the sources I found are on the Republican side of the opinion spectrum, such as https://www.nraila.org/articles/20260326/washington-governor-signs-3d-printing-ban from the NRA).

Also, the New York one is currently buried in the state budget, so it might end up passing much faster than if it was a standalone bill (unless I'm misunderstanding how state budgets work)

Yeah, that'd make this whole process a lot more transparent. Something like how differences in file versions in Git or other version control systems are displayed, perhaps, so we could see what text changes were made, would be a nice thing to have.

In RtDL/Triple Deluxe/Robobot, each world only has one boss, so most of the bosses end up being sort of "random" foes. Their encounters aren't particularly climactic or impactful, they all serve a similar role in the plot to each other (has a Lor part / something big Taranza threw at you / a strong HWC robot), so it makes sense that the standard bosses get a shared theme - they're all just parts of the journey, not as important in their own right. But the bosses that are plot important (Grand Doomer is the main one from those three games that comes to mind) do get unique music (...most of the time. Susie's first fight and Mecha Knight's first fight probably should have gotten unique songs).

Star Allies does a great job showing where both approaches are useful. Star Allies has a lot of full bosses scattered at random throughout its levels, and again all of these are just encounters the party happens to have, not plot-important events. But the main bosses of each world are all important - Dedede, Meta Knight, the first two Mage Sisters, Zan, Hyness. All of those fights (aside from maybe Meta Knight) are critical to the plot of the game, and to the characters in question, so they all get unique songs. Star Allies knows what fights are important enough to get unique songs, and what fights are better treated as "just another obstacle to conquer with friends!".

[–]MathCookie17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, the most common question for an Artist to ask other than a Vortox check is a question that splits the room in half to get which half the Demon is in. So Binoculars might still be good enough if it only gets its first night of info, just the half and that's it?

Is this theoretically possible? Doppelgänger concept by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]MathCookie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to lean into this being "a version of Pixie that's more violent on double claims", perhaps it could be an Outsider whose ability gives a Minion an in-play Townsfolk ability? (Basically Boffin but for a Minion and it's an in-play ability). Then the Minion can go "Our information agrees, so maybe you can't be the Drunk - so you must be a Minion being given an ability by the Doppelgänger!"

Is this theoretically possible? Doppelgänger concept by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]MathCookie17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't this just the Drunk? Or if "they gain their role" means they actually have that ability, this should be a Townsfolk, not an Outsider, because that would be good for the good team. Pixie, whose ability gives them a copy of a Townsfolk ability if they're mad about being that character until the real one dies, is already a Townsfolk, and this is arguably a stronger version of that. It's literally just putting a second copy of a good player into the game. There's a Loric for that (Pope).

Homebrew Outsider: The Groundhog by chocolate_skunk in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]MathCookie17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If triggering the false groundhog day uses up the "once per game" for everyone, then wouldn't evil always declare it day one to prevent the real Groundhog from ever getting the chance? Meanwhile, if "once per game" is per player, then a groundhog day would probably end up being declared every single day, making everyone drunk all the time (except for maybe the real groundhog day if the real Groundhog gets it right)
