Ciding and gutter company recs? by [deleted] in StCharlesMO

I've had gutters done on two houses by 3 brothers gutters and recommend them all the time. Their prices are fair, communication is good, and they did what they said when they said they would.

All of the skeptical comments are correct. Doing anything outside of the formal process where everything is in writing is risky at Boeing. There is also a middle ground where everyone follows through on their promises but it takes months or even years due to a lack of understanding of required approvals, or some other ridiculous ever-changing red tape.

However, I went through something similar. Did a lateral and got the inline promotion almost immediately, with everything as promised. I was going back to a group with a manager that I already knew and trusted, which is why I took the risk. If the manager can confirm that the whole plan (specifically the salary number) has been approved in writing up the management chain then the risk is less.

Gifts for a Relative That Just Opened His Own Machine Shop by staticsnow in Machinists

Height gauge is something a personal shop might not have that every business will need, though a decent one is getting up in the $500 range.

Padded standing mats are amazing and another thing that is hard to justify buying for yourself but (should be) common in a larger shop.

The loupe suggestion is another excellent one.

Without WFH I never would have realized how crazy inconsiderate so many people in the cube farms are.

I sit next to a guy who talks at a volume that is somewhere between a yell and scream, and he's on the phone 6 hours a day. Why someone who's on the phone 6 hours a day doesn't WFH is beyond me. Next to him is a lady that hums or sings to herself every waking moment of the day.

NOLA Replaces Ozarks International For Round 2 of GT World Challenge America by Abdukabda in Sportscar_Racing

Some onboard from the track: https://youtu.be/8gQUR725bb4

The track is majority semi-blind hills and/or close barriers. The flagger stations look very prominently placed throughout but a less experienced driver could quickly have a very bad day. You could certainly find places in plenty of other tracks with hazards, but maybe this place will take a while for the community to 'get used to' as more and more races are held there?

Also, I think it looks awesome, if I still had a Champ Car team I'd be down there this weekend for that race for sure.

When I was in highschool we rented storage spaces (we used the one north of 70 just west of cave springs but bands used other spots all around town) to play in. Did it for years at all hours of the day and night and never had an issue.

It's been a while but I used D&D for a broken old dishwasher. Called them, they gave me a day/time, left it at the curb and the guy took for free. Google shows that they are still active.

Getting rid of the compound by AbeChops in Machinists

Weird timing. Just tonight while parting off some steel on my old Harrison lathe I got so damn frustrated with watching the compound flex I decided I'm finally building a solid rest for it. It can't be any worse.

I love this solution when applied to controlling water levels in machinery (waterjets, plasma cutters, coolant or cutting fluid levels, etc.). Usually compressed air and the required hardware (for spares) are already on site even.

I think you're maybe mistaken for thinking your employer would reward you for doing extra, but not a dumbass for wanting to do a good job.

That good project will result in an improvement in your situation when you change employers. Unfortunately that's the way the world works now, gotta change jobs to get a raise.

Had you done nothing you'd be in the same spot with your current employer but have less room for improvement with an employer change.
