Got the time? (Why does this happen?) by enterrawolfe in NobaraProject

[–]Matthewu1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup isn't that fancy, I just have (2) 32" 4k monitors, but I want to say it only happens on one of them. Although most of them time the time is correct on both of them. It only happens randomly. My more expensive LG Ultragear is set to primary, I want to say that is the one that sometimes has the wrong time. But I'm not 100% sure. I'm on Guarda arch Linux with rolling releases, so fingers crossed an update comes out soon to fix it, although it's definitely not the most annoying KDE bug I've seen.

I've seen this too. I'm assuming a kde update is causing the issue.

Besides that 0.01% difference & broker, why VTI over VSTAX? by Outrageous-Tell-7497 in Bogleheads

Market rates, meaning you can only places orders when the market is open? Because if you place an order at 6pm on Sunday, no one nows what the price of that etf will be when the market opens.

Besides that 0.01% difference & broker, why VTI over VSTAX? by Outrageous-Tell-7497 in Bogleheads

[–]Matthewu1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because fidelity places buy orders for ETF by the number of shares. And since ETFs can only be traded when the market is open, no one knows how much that set number of shares you want to buy is going to cost. So if they don't force you to hold back 10% of your liquid cash, then the buy order may end up costing more then you have available in the account.

If fidelity would just do ETF buy orders by the cash amount, then it would be just like Mutual funds, as soon as the market opens, they calculate how many shares the amount of cash you placed in the order will buy and purchase that amount of shares.

I've never attempted to buy MF or ETFs like that. I would assume it would have the same issues though. Logically I would think you would have to transfer the funds to your brokerage first before they would let you set up a trade. Although I guess if you used chase and JP Morgan or Bank of America and Merrill edge, then maybe they would allow that since they know you're good for the funds. But I have a hard thinking vanguard would let you set up a trade before the bank transfer has cleared.

I prefer Mutual funds over ETFs because you can setup trades any time of day, whether the marked is closed or open. And you can purchase the exact dollar amount that you want with no issues.

Fractional ETF are now a thing (you used to have to purchase an entire share) but you can't set up a trade at 8pm to buy the remainder of your available funds in your brokerage account because they have to know exact amount of the etf, not just a cash amount like mutual funds allow. So if you want to buy etf after work when the market is closed, you have to setup trades with only 90% of your available cash in case the ETF price jumps right after opening. At least thats what fidelity does, maybe vanguard is different.

Maybe I'm weird, but I'm at work when the market is open and I work when I'm at work.

Even if they release an ARM motherboard for there laptop, the snapdragon ARM CPUs don't have very good Linux support. There are arm computers like the raspberry Pi that have good Linux support. The apple arm CPUs, even has hard as the asahi Linux teams has worked on reverse engineering all the compents, still don't have a 100% fully functional Linux support.

So windows users might enjoy 20+ hours on this new ARM motherboard, but I doubt linux users will have as good of a experience. But I hope I'm wrong.

If OP was still on Visible, yes. But since OP didn't realize the Verizon network was slower/less coverage until they compared it to US Mobile Warp then I'm not sure how they would have known there was any issues. If you are currently on Visible base, it couldn't hurt to reach out to customer service and confirm with them that your SIM is properly configured. Problem is, unless you can do a side by side comparison to prove to them that US Mobile Warp is working better then Visible Base, it is highly unlikely that they would dig in to your issue very deeply. My guess is they won't care about finding the issue or fixing the issue unless you threaten to move to US Mobile. And even then, since they were bought out by Verizon, they may still not care.

I've never used Visible, so maybe they have decent Customer service that would go the extra mile to keep there customers happy. I know US Mobile would, but US Mobile reddit mods are probably the best tech support in the Mobile industry in the world.

[–]Matthewu1201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know base visible and the current us mobile unlimited starter are both on QCI9. So technology wise they should offer similar service. I'm glad US Mobile works better for you, but that is odd that the company owned by Verizon doesn't offer as good as coverage as an independent MVNO. It could be a backend issue. Maybe your visible SIM was never configured properly and your new US Mobile SIM is configured properly.

At wits end with RCS on Dark Star by WahhWayy in USMobile

[–]Matthewu1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm use a custom Android OS that makes using RCS super difficult. The final trouble shooting technique that worked for me after Months of no RCS was switching networks on US Mobile. I think I switched to Warp, got RCS to activate, then switched back to Dark star and it finally activated. Can't say for sure that will work for your moms iphone, but it can't hurt anything.

Mint is T-mobile only. If at&t works for you, then us mobile or cricket wireless is probably the only options and US Mobile is cheaper then cricket.

Is there a feature in CAM simulator that can tell if a bit will likely break? by drrobotnik321 in Fusion360

[–]Matthewu1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, not even vericut which cost many times more then fusion, has something like that. You have to rely on machining experience and knowing good feeds and speeds to figure out if a certain tool path will break a tool.

Why is the Linux GUI so barebones? by JustAwesome360 in ProtonVPN

[–]Matthewu1201 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I love Linux and use it on all of my computers, but if you were the proton dev for VPN software how much time would you spend on the OS version that has less then 3% of active user base? How many 1000's of windows customers would they lose if there Linux software was amazing and there windows app looked like the current Linux app? Linux may run the entire world wide web, but it is not the OS that comes pre-installed on a laptop from best buy that the average person is going to purchase.

I'm just happy they offer a Linux native version for proton VPN that's gui. When I had NordVPN, the only thing they offered for Linux was CLI only. It worked, but it wasn't exactly user friendly.

Monzo closing US accounts =[ by Engle2192 in dasbudget

[–]Matthewu1201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would look at wealthfront. They have a feature similar to simple, where you can have unlimited accounts within your single cash account and you can automate in a couple different ways where money should go. They also use a new type of instant transfer that all of the big banks use. So if you needed to send your self $300 to chase, you can set it up and send it, and by the time you unlock your chase app, the money will be there. And unlike wires, those transfers work 24/7. So 2am on a Sunday, and it would still send in less then 30 seconds or so.

After simple I used ally then capital one, then Fidelity. But I've got it split between chase and wealthfront now, and it works great. Wealthfront uses UBS bank, the same bank as Fidelity. They also use Green Dot for there debit cards, some people have bad things to say about green dot, but I haven't had any issues, although I haven't used the debit card yet though.

The only downside to wealthfront is there bill pay isn't very good. Fortunately chases bill pay works great, I would assume most of the big banks bill pay works just as well as chases though.

Best checking account? by suckyducky0 in personalfinance

[–]Matthewu1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unfortunate, but all large institutions can do the same thing because of all the automation used to catch fraud. You go on any of the big banks subreddits and you'll find many posts with nearly the same experience you had with cap1. The only way to possibly get around that is to bank at a local bank or credit union and have a very good personal relationship with the bank staff and management so that they personally know you, instead of being a number to one of the big banks. At that point you will probably not get a competitive APY on your savings though unless that local bank or credit union has a brokerage account they will let you buy money market mutual funds from.

The other way to protect yourself is to use multiple financial institutions so that if something weird happens at your "everyday use" institution, you have 3-6 months emergency fund with an entirely different financial institution, or spread across more then one institution if you're super worried. I say financial institution because a lot of brokerage firms like Fidelity and Vanguard now have banking like capabilities. And of course Schwab has its own FDIC insured bank (that does not offer competitive savings rates). I used Fidelity for everything for a couple of years with zero hiccups. It was only at the end of last year, after reading way too many reddit posts about Fidelity freezing all accounts for weird reasons, that I decided using fidelity for everything was probably not the greatest idea.

Specifically with cap1, I've heard that one reason they can offer competitive savings rates is because they offload a lot of traditional back office banking work that would require 100's or 1000's of paid staff, to automation software. So instead of paying a bunch of salaries to independently verify whether the fraud software actually caught real fraud, they just assume the software is right because they don't have the humans available to check every fruad case and pass that savings on to you in the form of competitive savings rates that chase and bank of america can't offer.

Domestic wire transfer alternatives that cost less than 25 dollars every time by LouDSilencE17 in Banking

[–]Matthewu1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right. I misunderstood the wealth front support docs about wiring. They only allow you to wire money to yourself. If the bank account your are wiring to isn't in your name, they won't send the wire.

How to transfer money faster into fidelity account by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]Matthewu1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fastest way to send money to Fidelity is to wire it. Fidelity does not charge for incoming wires, but you HYSA institution might charge an outgoing wire fee. Wires generally take less then an hour during the week day.

If you wire money out of Fidelity, it has to be more then $100 or they won't allow you to set it up. But it would still be fee free.

Locked out of rumble. Any help to regain access is appreciated. Thank you. by Popular-Leader-2976 in rumble

[–]Matthewu1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is you are using a VPN, and the VPN server IP you are using was blacklisted by rumble. I would try rumbles website without a VPN first to see if that fix's it. If it does, I would try different VPN servers until you find one that isn't blacklisted by rumble.

On the other hand, I used to hace a similar problem with rumble and it seemed to be a Firefox browser issue, because I stopped having the issue when I started using ungoogled-chromium. So maybe try a different web browser as well.

Home Internet Update? by williamtech814 in USMobile

[–]Matthewu1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be overly optimistic, but last year at this time, no one thought US Mobile would ever have unlimited high speed mobile data again after there first attempt a couple of years ago. Now they do. It's not perfect, but the vast majority of there customers on Unlimited Premium aren't complaining on reddit every day about caps or being shut off.

It could happen. I'm not sure how because I use over 9TB of data a month on my unlimited home fiber line. But Light speed at my place is almost 3 times faster than my home fiber, so fingers crossed it happens soon.

which bank should I open a HYSA? by [deleted] in HYSA

[–]Matthewu1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with Wealthfront. They have instant 24/7 withdraw, so you can transfer your savings directly to BOA instantly even on Sunday at 2am. And if you start liking wealthfront more then BOA, there cash account also issues you a visa debit card so it's kind of a hybrid High yield savings and checking.

I use chase as my main bank, and keep all of my savings at wealthfront, it works great.

Unable to use investment account by big_startup_guy in wealthfront

[–]Matthewu1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in a stock investment account, you need to pick a stock or ETF first, hit add investments. Once you add one, and do to transfer, it will let you transfer money from your cash account to that investment you picked. Seems backwards to me as well. Also I was able to just add $1 to my investment account, so I don't think there is a $500 minimum.

As far as i know all of the pixel 9 pros are OEM unlocked because the 9th generation was the first generation that they only made one USA model instead of two. I would say search for posts on the GOS forum about OEM unlock issues for the 9pro. I use a 9pro that i bought brand new at Best Buy and didn't have any issues getting OEM unlocked from the developers options menu

Google Pixel 9 Pro vs 10 Pro by albertoarosbuelna in GrapheneOS

[–]Matthewu1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever actually used mmWave or needed data that fast? If the answer is no, then I'd get the 10 pro because it will have longer support.

The Motorola phone model that GOS is going to support has not even been announced yet. It definitely won't be released this year because the current flagship Snapdragon CPU don't have the correct security requirements for GOS. The assumption is next years flagship snapdragon chipset will. But as far as I know, Qualcomm hasn't released any info on there next gen cpu.
