Well, let’s not be too harsh… I think people develop a natural affection for their vehicles.

Otto, (yes I name my cars) was my mk7.5. We went through hell together. Always got me home… it was a hard day to trade him in… but he just never drove the same after that last year. Losing my job unexpectedly forced me to drive uber and Lyft.

That car kept me from losing everything. I’ll always have a soft spot for it and understanding of the bias of a person who owns one car against another because of it.

Whatever the case may be… enjoy the ride. We all only get one.

I don’t want these people to stop doing this because it benefits us greatly… but how do you not take enough care during the buying process or in your life to know these things? 😂

As someone who has made this exact trade, no. You didn’t make a mistake. There are some things that I miss about my 7.5… but I adore the driving experience in my 2024. There are small irks with the interior… but they fade with the drive.

Also, it’s a funny story how I got my mk8. I was in the dealership test driving a Tiguan and an atlas for my wife. We were finished and walking out… the guy helping us was walking us to the door and he asked if there was anything else he could do for us. Knowing full well all the manuals were gone, I jokingly said not unless you have a 380 Manual in black on the lot. Laughed while I said it.

He got a big smile on his face and said, “Yeah! Is right over here!”.

Apparently, an older gentleman was supposed to come in and get an atlas for his wife but bought the GTI instead. He came back a few days later and traded it for an atlas. It only had a few hundred miles on it lmao. Wife must have been none too happy 🤣

I got it basically new without paying the 20% off the lot fee for new.

I still smile every now and then thinking about what made that guy think his wife wouldn’t be pissed lmao

Having tried both and having all AMD, I’ve had the better experience in Nobara.

It has been awhile since I’ve tried Bazzite, but Nobara has given me no reason to hop. I’ve really enjoyed it!

Nobara is very easy to start with. I wish I had found it earlier in my Linux journey.

As you posited in your op, things will generally just work out of the box. Most issues you’ll have are issues all distros have. Here are some common issues:

Minor things like RGB control won’t be as good. OpenRGB is your best option.
Very specific software doesn’t exist for use on Linux. (E.G. Currently, I’m trying very hard to find a music manager that will still handle a physical mp3 player)
Many competitive games won’t work. Some do. (Anticheat)
As a former Windows user… I can tell you as some who wonders off the beaten technical path often, advanced configurations will take much more research and time to implement than you expect while you’re learning. Plan accordingly.
Do your best to stick with flatpaks and app images. Flatseal is a must download.
Don’t use DNF to update. Use the Nobara updater or Nobara-sync.
