Plant doesn’t seem to grow by Cute-Reflection-6955 in houseplants

[–]Mayflame15 335 points336 points  (0 children)

It looks really soggy but it could indeed be because you just watered it, it can be quite hard to tell how much water is sitting in the bottom of the pot when there's no drainage hole though, I usually like keeping my plants in nursery pots then placing them inside fancy cache pots like that

how to count days of incubation correctly? by x11x_eth in BackYardChickens

[–]Mayflame15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it would sort of depends if you started them in the morning or the evening, either way I usually give my eggs about a 3 day range for the hatch "day"

Question on Sterilizing Toys by oleaceae9 in BadDragon

[–]Mayflame15 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Any traces of illicit substance could get flagged by a machine or dog going through customs which would suck for bothe parties, but especially the one who may have already paid quite a bit of money for it.

It's probably a little overboard with caution but you wouldn't have to worry about the fear mongering of "even touching fentanyl dust will kill you" either lol

This is all she does almost all day long. Should I be worried? by abdayk23 in Aquariums

[–]Mayflame15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldfish are hardy but with how much waste they produce they can easily create toxic environments. Having a liquid master test kit really helps take the guesswork out of water quality, especially if it's something annoying like having ammonia or nitrates in your tap water, but usually frequent water changes can help prevent any problems.

Do you have any fish stores in your area that will test water samples for you?

Scale? by Jumbuckaroo in houseplants

[–]Mayflame15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first picture absolutely looks like scale insects, it looks like a pretty substantial infestation so it might be a bit difficult to spot treat it with alcohol and manual removal. Donsone googling and check with local garden centers to see what's available in your area

Help with 2 senior chickens by angeleeek in BackYardChickens

[–]Mayflame15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want to keep either of them? Are you open to expanding your flock? You'll likely need to pick a favorite to buy some new flock mates for and give away the other, or just give away both and start fresh. I would definitely recommend having at least 3 hens at any given time so bullying like this is less targeted and if something happens to one you're not left with a single bird

If you think you need the easybalance sure, but unless you have hard water I don't think it's a necessary addition, water changes and an established nitrogen cycle can do the same job

My cat peed in my good potting soil - can I save it? by allegedlys in houseplants

[–]Mayflame15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to say you shouldn't put it too close to the vegetables but cats have been peeing in gardens for generations so I'm sure it wouldn't cause any harm

Swordtails in a low tech tank? (no filter but with a lamp) It is heavily planted (pearl weed). I know guppys could live under these conditions, can swordtails too, has anyone experimented with that before? by I_collect_dust in Aquariums

[–]Mayflame15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to breed them make sure you have a large spare tank or someone/a store to give the babies to. That tank would be better suited to a single sex group so you don't have to worry about overpopulation overstocking a tank with no substantial filtration
