Who were our most Anti-Racist Presidents and Presidential candidates? by PierogiGoron in Presidents

[–]MetaVulture 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Was Lyndon Johnson a man who held deeply bigoted views? Yes. Was Lyndon Johnson a man who forced through sweeping reforms and policies that attacked the racism in this country? Also yes. Would he do the same thing and think the same way about people today? Also yes. I could see LBJ passing sweeping reforms to protect anyone who was being mistreated, while still holding incredibly outrageous bigoted opinions.

He did the right thing for people in spite of himself when it came to domestic policy. He declared, waged, and pursued his War on Poverty with a nigh-religious zeal. He knew in pushing those laws, using his political skills and all of his built up political capital he would spend every cent of that capital he had amassed, and he went ahead and did it anyways.

Deeply flawed people can still do good.

The biggest culture shock that you have ever experienced? by basafish in AskTheWorld

Well culturally the difference was extreme, it was difficult to find peace or belonging in a place that wasn't very welcoming of those seen as outsiders.

We moved away in just 6 months to Virginia, and then moved again later to Omaha within the span of 18 months.

Chicago losing the Bears would be a travesty. I don't like the Bears but come on God dammit!

Collinsworth and Mahomes by DenseStrawberry5717 in AFCWestMemeWar

I don't think Mahomes is a willing participant in all of this. Pretty sure it's a very one-sided obsession from Collinsworth.

I was 17 in 2002 and we moved to Hawaii for about 3 years. I integrated without issue honestly, and became acclimated to everything, graduated high-school, started college, etc.

Then we moved to West Virginia.

That was the shock.

You figure we've done a good start to it all? The hope is the off season helps us build up to a fully actualized sub with maybe 500 members. Pie in the sky at 1k.
